I have been coming to Casa del Barco for several years and previously really enjoyed it. The phone app ordering system KILLS, KILLS, KILLS the restaurant experience. Please end it. Bring back, menus (even electronic), servers, and most of all ordering like you are in a restaurant, not on a delivery app. And please put the Oaxacan Old Fashioned back on the app menu at the very least.
It was kind of hard to find the restaurant. Parking was a good walk from it, but the food came very fast and it was pretty inside.
Food was delicious! Loved the idea of ordering on your phone. But was difficult for some of the older members of the party. Will be coming back for sure- adobo chicken tacos were amazing and the guacamole was to die for!!
I am a longtime fan of Casa Del Barco, love the food & atmosphere. When dining out I don’t mind looking at a QR for the menu, but not ordering from a person is beyond disappointing. If I wanted to order on line and have my food ‘dropped’ off I would have stayed home and ordered Door Dash. Part of eating out is the experience of interaction. We live in Rocketts and refuse to go to the Boathouse and pay top dollar to not get waited on. Please go back to being a restaurant at all of your properties.
Casa makes a great mojito and has a great happy hour—just wish it lasted longer!
The carne asada burrito, listed as a specialty, was awful. Very little meat and what was there was dried up and hard. Burrito only (No sides included) was $15. Margaritas were awful. Only redeeming quality was location, and polite waitress.
Loved the food and restaurant. Didn’t like the online order system that was so complicated patrons need a tutorial.
Good ambiance outside. Drinks and food have always been consistent. Forgetful server. Server offered to bring more chips then forgot until we had to ring the service button. Even then, he came back asking what we needed. Finally brought chips after that, but queso was already cold. Ate a few chips, then left.
Always a nice setting but the drinks this visit were very disappointing- watered down or filled with syrups and mixers, not nearly as good as in last visits.
The BEST Mexican restaurant in Richmond and SUPER convenient from the highway. I stop here each time I pass through. My favorite order is the three amigos queso, guacamole, salsa, and unlimited chips appetizer, a YAS QUEEN margarita, and the kale taco salad with avocado.
Great/interesting location and nice atmosphere inside.
Food was OK at beat and margarita was less than adequate in terms of flavor.
Not sure I liked having to essentially serve myself by using an app to order my food and then pay for it. I get the concept and convenience of control but I don’t want to have to work for it. System worked well and I was able to summon my server when I needed her but I’m not a fan of this process overall.
We loved the Atmosphere of this restaurant! The waiters were very friendly and the food ca me out quickly. We loved being able to order from the table. This was a great spot for a date night or a fun night out. we would definitely go again!
It was so pleasant to eat outside with such a beautiful view of the canal and beautiful surrounding buildings! We go to Richmond a lot, but had never been in this spot. The service was fantastic. We even enjoyed ordering on the new phone app! Music was pretty loud through the speakers behind us, but the manager turned it down, so that was nice. The food was great -- really too much of it! The only issue, which may prevent us from returning, is that the only free place to park is in the multi-story parking garage across the canal, which appears to be great when you arrive. BUT when we tried to return to the garage, we discovered that the doors on the lobby level are locked at 6pm! The only alternative is to climb multiple, gigantic levels of stairs, which would have been very difficult for the elderly, cancer survivor in our group. And we had NO warning on the website or even as we exited the garage on arrival. Luckily, an empathetic security guard saw our appalled faces on the security cameras and RAN down to let us in! What a guy. We'd love to return to this restaurant, but there is no parking on the first level or two of the garage, which means that many, many steps are in line after eating. Not sure what the solution is, but it's definitely a problem.
Service was very bad and also food but if you like drinks it’s a good place to go
Lovely setting outside venue. The food was great and the service was just right!!
Highly recommend this restaurant.
Navigating The barcode menu and checking out, was way more difficult than it needed to be. we spent 10-15 mins alone just trying to make it work. Non linear decision trees with more bells and whistles than necessary. drinks and food did not come out as we would have liked, simply for not knowing this particular sandskrit. Ordering straight from staff would be MUCH more convenient.
Food wasn’t wow for the price i paid.
The restaurant utilizes an online ordering system for customers to order and pay for food. This was a pain on the patio as we could hardly see our phones in the glare and it took a while to click through all the settings. It significantly detracted from the pleasure of eating out, as we had to spend a good portion of the beginning of our get together on our phones. Plus there was a 20% service charge even though the wait staff was doing half or less the work. If I want takeout, I will get takeout. If I’m eating at a restaurant, I want full service! Other than this, the food was good and the patio was pleasant. It’s fun to be near the canal and river walks.
Unless you want to be on your phone all night, don’t bother. You can’t even order a drink from the bartender. You have to get on your phone, register, enter your personal information, then try to find a drink. They’re not even all jn one place, you have to keep clicking out and clicking in. Food is satisfactory. The poorly lit pay lot was next to them was towing cars with paid receipts in them. The driver said “they are parked in the wrong area of the lot”. Be careful!
I liked the app service and being able to place orders when we wanted and not having to wait for a server. Then the server would appear with food and to check on us at the right moments. It was a great system.
Food was good. Great atmosphere
Don’t love the qr ordering
Poor experience due to new ordering and payment systems using a phone app. Confusing and frustrating. Not the level of service expected from an establishment of this level. Will not be returning.
They have automated ordering system, yet the servers were delivering food and drinks to the wrong table constantly while we were there, so the automatic 20% gratuity seemed unfair for a group of 2. Baja fish tacos were soggy when they came out from pico, which should have either been served on side or at the very least drained to avoid. It was inedible. Ordered a mojito which was terrible. However the empanadas were excellent! But sadly the only positive experience.
I LOVE CDB, but typically find myself at the Short Pump location. Food /drink quality are the same at both, but there is a bit of difference in ambiance which is why we chose Canal Walk to enjoy a gorgeous day outside. Unfortunately the service was disappointing, and declined over the length of our visit. Asked our server multiple times for a box, used the button to try and ask someone who was maybe more available? After 30 mins we finally just left, unfortunately having to leave without the food, which was irritating considering the price point and amount of food we had planned to be able to bring home. Had a similar experience when I came a few weeks back, servers were MIA when help was needed, despite the call system they are using now. Will probably be sticking to Short Pump from now on, but again- the food and drinks are great at both! This is just my experience.
Food was delicious. No complaints. However, beware of the automatic 20% tip that’s added to your bill, because you will be asked to tip again during the check out and that would be IN ADDITION to the 20% tip already charged. The merit of 20% tip for service is questionable in general, as you do all your own ordering on the app and payment processing in the end. Waiters literally don’t do anything other than warmly greet you as you are seated and inform you that you have to do everything yourself through the app.
Horrible. Paid $5/per person for a patio “experience”. Only two tables were taken. The entire restaurant was free. No waiter - don’t order unlimited salsa. You won’t get more salsa. Paid for parking. Rip Off!
I just didn’t like they charge a service fee.
Food and service was great!
Everything was great! Server was great! Drinks from the bar took awhile, didn’t get them until after my dinner but no other complaints!
Beautiful setting. Fun place. Food just ok. Appetizers are the best.
Great food, great atmosphere. Kind of weird that all ordering had to be done by smart phone and rarely interacted with wait staff. Didn’t appreciate the forced gratuity
It was great
Service was confusing, we ordered at table and were charged twice for unlimited chips and salsa. Also charged 20% tip automatically for party of two! I was told they would remove additional chips charge but noticed on my receipt today that I was overcharged anyway. Also did not realize they added 20% tip, so they were tipped twice (as I added it to my total). It honestly wasn’t that fabulous. Servers were confused who was supposed to be waiting on us and the one who said he would take our table (Carl) asked us at the end of our meal if the other staff had taken care of us since we never saw him. Disappointed overall.
The staff is friendly, the food is delicious and served in a timely manner.
It was horrible. Had a reservation and had to wait an hour.
Experience was awesome... I like how they have you order your meal and drinks it was very convenient. Food and drinks were great I tried the empanadas and the Yassssssss Queen margarita both great choices. Will return soon. Oh and our captain Carl was amazing and very helpful.
It was great !
Our group had a great time
Staff was accommodating and attentive
The happy hour deals were amazing. Half off apps and discounted margs!
