I enjoyed the area and the service was good for all of the covid restrictions. I thought the food was very overpriced for the quality and quantity that I got. My tacos barely had any meat on them and were very tiny. I don’t think it was worth what I paid for.
Hate the online experience
Sucks. Very limited menu selections
We really lucked out in that we were able to get seating outside and under the big tent, shift was perfect, because it proceeded to pour.
This was my first time at Casa del Barco and I enjoyed everything. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because our queso was a bit cold but it was still delicious. We would have sent it back but we were on a time constraint. Will definitely be returning hopefully, sooner than later.
Despite making a reservation 10 hours before arriving, we were told upon arrival that no table was available inside. Then, we were told a 20% gratuity was mandatory, even though our waiter didn’t take our order or do anything else for us - all ordering is done through an app. It was a joke.
The food was good and so was the atmosphere. However, I would say the food was overpriced for what it was.
This location is great on the canal. There are large porch areas for outdoor seating and a great inside atmosphere. The prices are expensive for the drinks and small portions of guacamole and salsa but everything tastes delicious. Definitely fun for a night out.
Waiter had an attitude
Provided coupons that he said would be applied to my bill and they were not
He was extremely rude
We really enjoyed our experience. The staff was exceedingly helpful and accommodating to our dogs, and the food was very, very good.
Service was horrendous as it took more than 20 minutes just for our drinks. Food arrived dry and hard and no server to handle issues just a person who would randomly check in every 15-20 minutes.
The drinks were good, the food not so much. My enchiladas had a ton of tortilla and not much inside.
Our good was very good! Service was outstanding. Our waiter, Kevin, went above and beyond for our group!
We love CDB! The whole experience is relaxing, and casual and the food is fantastic! Daniel was our server and he was a delight... they are doing everything right during these strange COVID times!
The queso and chips were fantastic. We will definitely return on our next visit to Richmond.
One of the best times ever waiter was so nice and fun
Casa del Barco's location cannot be beat. It is a great restaurant to bring out of towners or anyone new to Richmond. The mixed drinks are very pricey. The food is expensive for Mexican cuisine.
Food was delicious but the table wasn’t cleared until after we ate our dessert (including appetizer plates). You also have to pay after you order anything (when you order appetizer, then again when your order your entree, then again when you order dessert). This made the dining experience less pleasant.
It was my birthday, they said they’d bring out cake but never did. Our waiter barely acknowledged us. Poor value for how pricey it is.
On a whim, I quickly setup a reservation. My wife and I were walking by and decided to try. I have to take responsibility for not reading the fine print on open table app. It clearly says that they will charge 20% service charge as a tip to provide a living wage for staff. No one shared from the restaurant staff about this. I left an additional 20% tip. I can afford it. I just want to let everyone know to pay attention. Again my fault but wish the staff would have alerted me.
Best duck tacos in my life
Will done here again!
We chose Casa del Barco for its outside seating option for a larger group and had a very nice experience. Five of us met and sat on the patio on a crisp Fall evening.
CDB has a COVID like none other I've experienced. All ordering is done via your phone. You scan a QR code and a menu pops up. You order drinks and food as you go and pay with each order. So, for instance, if you want drinks while you look over the menu, you click on your selections, add it to a cart (like online shopping) and then check out using a credit card or apple pay. If you want appetizers, you follow the same steps. Then, move on to entrees. Everything is brought to your table by a runner who will clear any items you've finished with. Tax and gratuity is included, and you are able to leave more if you wish. I had five transactions over the course of the night, including three rounds of drinks, appetizers and entrees.
There's little interaction with servers. A manager kept tabs on us to be sure we were enjoying everything and that our evening was going smoothly.
It's definitely not a typical experience for service, but it was safe and efficient. Everything came out quickly and correctly after our orders were placed.
I was impressed with how well it all worked. The food was great, too. We had margaritas, a "Yaaas Queen" and a Blood orange whiskey sour for drinks. We shared empanadas to start and I had the chicken enchiladas. We enjoyed them all.
Dinner for two, with drinks, appetizers and entrees was about $125, including tax and 30 percent tip.
Well done, CDB!
Very pricey, small portions, food not great, just ok, drinks were better than the food.
The perfect place to eat. Happy Hour is great also.
Great location, great food, great ambiance. Loved the menu.
Service and food were excellent.9
It was nice
Great ambience. Sat outside, good music. Ordering online is annoying. Several checks. Food was great.
I was on a date night with my fiance (he is a chef and myself a bartender/manager). We ordered chips & salsa, 4 tacos (2 shrimp 2 chicken), street corn, plantains and a bottle of wine. The salsa tasted like marinara, the street corn was cooked beyond belief and was served without limes or any seasoning (so it was just sour cream and cheese..very bland and not good) and the chicken tacos were cold on both of our orders. Since everything was ordered through the app, it took 15 minutes to get water and by the time anyone checked on us, it was too late to mention anything about how bad our food was and we honestly just wanted to leave. The plantains and the bottle of wine were the only thing we finished. It's unfortunate because the location and tequila selection is so great, but we will not be returning.
Due to Covid- I understand the need for online table ordering. However, once the food is “dropped off” there is little to no contact w/the server. We ordered the endless chips & salsa and had to flag someone down everytime we needed a chip refill. Too much waiting around and not enough direction. This was our first visit and we were not familiar with the “ropes”-. What was supposed to be a quick lunch for 5- turned into a much longer ordeal than we had planned for. Food was prepared well and we enjoyed the food and drinks.
The system of orders is horrible! Automatically charged for service fee. Food was only ok but for the price $30 shrimp fajitas- no more
I like the restaurant. But I’m sorry guys you need fix your new system ...
Sat us outside even though we had reservations and it was cold. Then the apparent dj turned up the music so loud I couldn’t have a conversation.
Great food. Quick service. I suggest that they lose the DJ. With social distancing in effect, no one is dancing and everyone just wanted good food, company and conversation. Music was way too loud. We would have stayed for a few more rounds of drinks if we could hear one another.
Another suggestion : If there is online ordering with no table side waiter service and you are going to add an automatic 20% service charge, do not also prompt for a tip. I don’t mind an automatic service charge and I don’t mind tipping, but imposing both comes across as an overreach for service that consists solely of food runners.
Ordering food was a little confusing. I ordered appitizer and meal and it all came the sametime and it was cold.
They offer great tacos, with several options to choose from.
They really need to step up their food game. It's always cold and tastes bland. The service is great, people are nice and friendly, but food sucks.
I have summited it already.........................
Great drink choices with generous pours...this does result in higher than average cost for drinks but given that they have outdoor seating overlooking the Canal (especially during COVID) makes it a great choice for dinner & drinks
I enjoyed my visit to Casa del Barco. The service was good. It was laid back and had a good atmosphere. Obviously not crowded because of social distancing!
The only drawback was the menu was limited, but the food was good.
I love this location and food is always delicious
Service was excellent and quick
Also liked the new way of ordering and paying through phone
