Yes they do a 20% increase in your food cost. They do this to provide the servers with a real wage. People that complain about this. Don't go there. You probably tip less than 10% anyway.

Trouble with the menu app and the wait staff seemed not to know how to actually wait on tables. Frustrating all around for my party of 8. Incorrect food brought to the table but wasn’t adjusted on the bill. Lots of confusion with the staff.

They utilize a completely digital ordering system with no designated waiter/waitress per table. Translation: poor service because no one is looking out for your table. To make it worse: every order is subject to a 20% service fee (regardless of party size).
Food= beans and rice way overcooked (sitting out for hours??) . Our entrees were just as bad. For example, chicken enchiladas were disgusting.

We have been customers since before Pandemic and have finally had it with your online mend and ordering. It was a nightmare for a party of 6. The menu says you can mix and match any three tacos and then you find out that the Barbacoa [sic] tacos are excluded despite what the menu explicitly says. Staff is not attentive considering the online ordering process. They have eliminated many specialty margaritas from menu. We’ve always loved it, but this place is going down.

Nice restaurant and decent food, but you have to order your food on your phone. The servers are also automatically given 20%. If I go out to eat, I want my order to be taken by a server. This is just a way to eliminate more jobs.

The menu is limited, but some good options. The pricing is very high for what you get though. Poor parking, little service, albeit they were nice. I did not like placing my own order, paying on my phone, etc. Also the implied expectation of adding additional tip on top of the 20% that you were charged (and not listed as a tip), seemed in poor taste. If I have to pay an additional $3.50 to refill the iced tea, and place my own orders, I should not have to pay such a steep fee for little service. That being said, the food was tasty. I'll go back one day, when they are acting like a full service restaurant OR charging like a fast casual.

The food was good, but I could do without the online ordering system while sitting at a table. I try to discourage phones at the table, but that is not possible given the ordering system. You order and pay online. A 20% service charge is included for your efforts. Overall, our meal was good and interactions with the staff were fine. It just seemed like they were forcing some type of new technology under the guise of Covid protocols. It’s not that it’s difficult to use - it’s not. The waiter/waitress still comes to your table and talks to you - only this time to explain how you can order online. It just didn’t make any sense. If you’re talking to us, and we’re talking to you, just take our order. After the meal, we spent more time talking about the ordering system than the food or the ambiance- both of which otherwise would have been the topic. Give it a try if you like Mexican food with a side of unnecessary technology.

The online ordering thing is a bit weird and you don't get to ask the waiter questions on pairing things or what may be good with what, but otherwise the food is good and the service was attentive if not personal.

When arriving to our table, I pushed the button to summon our wait person. She came and explained that we needed to scan the barcode to "access" the menu and place our orders. Not all 3 of us needed to do this but the original person would need to "add" us to the initial access. One of us couldn't access at all; two of us did but because one wasn't "added", it showed two orders and got really messed up. One drink was brought over. then 5-10 minutes before the other two drinks arrived. Ordering appetizer was ok and arrived as ordered. For our second rounds of drinks, we could not ascertain how to accomplish a repeat order. we had to call the waitress over for her to explain. Entre' orders went in ok. All at the end, they added a 20% gratuity which was totally unacceptable. There were only 3 of us so why the added tip? Additionally, we had to navigate through the ordering process ourselves . the only thing the waitress did was deliver. Pretty expensive tip for a delivery person.

The restaurant is very welcoming and open! The impact of the implementation of online ordering and payment seems to lead to lots of confusion regarding dish delivery. I will grant some leniency as we are there after the Richmond marathon but it was a very chaotic experience.

Love the food here. Everything is delicious. We always buy too much & end up taking some home. But we'll drive an hour just to come here. Very cook area with nice murals nearby.

First time dining at Casa del Barco…we weren’t disappointed! Hostess acknowledged us as soon as we entered & explained the QR Code ordering process. Food came out in a timely manner & was delicious! Alex, the executive chef brought us a Tres Leche dessert for our anniversary. We will be back! Thank you!!!

The phone app ordering absolutely RUINS the dining experience. Digital menus are wonderful but I might as well order takeout if you need a tutorial to order and pay on an app. I would not return. There's a button on the table to request service and a 20% service charge is automatically added to the tab but where is the service? On top of that the app requires a phone number and email which are huge privacy concerns. Food is good but not worth the poor experience.

Don't love the toast app for ordering. Too difficult to link up everyone's order on to one tab. The UI simply isn't user friendly.

Delicious food. Service was good from the one server…this restaurant does an ordering and payment service through a QR code on your phone. So no server, but you are required to pay 20% gratuity anyways to cover those workers who do serve you. Very good menu options for the food though.

I have been coming to Casa del Barco for several years and previously really enjoyed it. The phone app ordering system KILLS, KILLS, KILLS the restaurant experience. Please end it. Bring back, menus (even electronic), servers, and most of all ordering like you are in a restaurant, not on a delivery app. And please put the Oaxacan Old Fashioned back on the app menu at the very least.

Food was delicious! Loved the idea of ordering on your phone. But was difficult for some of the older members of the party. Will be coming back for sure- adobo chicken tacos were amazing and the guacamole was to die for!!

I am a longtime fan of Casa Del Barco, love the food & atmosphere. When dining out I don’t mind looking at a QR for the menu, but not ordering from a person is beyond disappointing. If I wanted to order on line and have my food ‘dropped’ off I would have stayed home and ordered Door Dash. Part of eating out is the experience of interaction. We live in Rocketts and refuse to go to the Boathouse and pay top dollar to not get waited on. Please go back to being a restaurant at all of your properties.

The carne asada burrito, listed as a specialty, was awful. Very little meat and what was there was dried up and hard. Burrito only (No sides included) was $15. Margaritas were awful. Only redeeming quality was location, and polite waitress.

Good ambiance outside. Drinks and food have always been consistent. Forgetful server. Server offered to bring more chips then forgot until we had to ring the service button. Even then, he came back asking what we needed. Finally brought chips after that, but queso was already cold. Ate a few chips, then left.

The BEST Mexican restaurant in Richmond and SUPER convenient from the highway. I stop here each time I pass through. My favorite order is the three amigos queso, guacamole, salsa, and unlimited chips appetizer, a YAS QUEEN margarita, and the kale taco salad with avocado.

Great/interesting location and nice atmosphere inside.

Food was OK at beat and margarita was less than adequate in terms of flavor.

Not sure I liked having to essentially serve myself by using an app to order my food and then pay for it. I get the concept and convenience of control but I don’t want to have to work for it. System worked well and I was able to summon my server when I needed her but I’m not a fan of this process overall.
