The barbacoa tacos are amazing, and the ordering system is very convenient. Our favorite restaurant!
Casa del Barco is a beautiful space. The food was good, but ordering and paying for our meal was cumbersome. While the service was good, we found ordering and paying totally on your phone took away from the overall experience.
Was a great experience for a rare night out for my wife and I! Would return again.
Our experience at Casa Del Barco was just alright. The staff wasn’t very friendly and didn’t seem that they wanted to really help when asking questions about the ordering process, which by the way was one of the most horrendous ways of ordering food I have ever seen. The level of service was just subpar. We normally have our go to Mexican food spots we frequent, but was looking to try something different to Mom’s visit to the city. The process of ordering drinks and food took longer than simply having a QR code (like every other restaurant does) or an actual tangible menu. When asked, some of your wait staff didn’t seem to be very knowledgeable about the menu, nor did they want to go check to see if a certain request could actually be done. All around very lackluster attitudes and a poor dining experience. We most likely will stick with what we know and where we know we will be taken care of.
A beautifully decorated space with delicious food!
We were 16 people - and everybody had a good time. I had the Carnitas Tacos - they were delicious.
Terrific ambience and the food was great. They did a very nice job incorporating their touchless app with attentive service.
The salsa was good. Tacos fair. Margaritas were horrible, and they added a 20% service charge to the bill.
Excellent location near a canal, great service and good food. We will be back!
Loved the new ordering system by phone (once we figured it out), very nice service, happy hour deals were great, free parking at garage nearby (validated). Had a great experience.
Enjoyed the beautiful outdoor ambiance. Food was very good, would have liked greater selection. Staff were very attentive and friendly. We will be back again.
Recipe for quesadillas reads” onions and sweet peppers”. I ordered it because I can’t eat green peppers. It was smothered in green peppers!
We wanted to put our meals on same ticket but could not get the app to do that from 2 different phones... waitress helpful
I ordered fish tacos- the fish was mostly breading and the fish itself seemed like a ground up material. Margueritas were just fair. Atmosphere and view were very nice.
Noice level may be higher on busier evening. Overall restaurant was very
good, especially shrimp fajitas. Did not use phone for ordering and do not
like that option. I didn't know that a 20% service charge was added for
parties of four and tipped again. I am not fond of all this electronic ordering,
paying by square and not having time to look over bill, etc. Probably a great
gathering place for a younger crowd.
The portions were very small especially given the price. Very limited menu. Food came out quickly and hot. Ordering on my phone was bit impersonal especially since the 20% tip is automatically added to the check, but the app was easy to use. Having to pre-pay before my food arrived was off-putting because what if something went wrong. Very nice location on the canal. I made reservations on line telling them that we were celebrating a birthday and there was no birthday celebration offered. Validated parking was a plus. Ordered the chicken casa crunch burrito, but there was very little chicken in it. Due to the moisture level of the burrito, it stuck to the wax paper on the serving plate and it was hard to not get pieces of paper while trying to eat it. Server was attentive. Spent $170 for 5 people with no alcohol and left hungry.
Overall, I would rate this place a 6/10. Food was pretty good but wasn’t outstanding and I was extremely disappointed with my margarita.. it tasted awful and I even paid a little more for a slightly better tequila, which ended up being a waste after all. All in all, it definitely was not worth the outrageous prices... service was great though, the staff was super nice.
Casa del Barco has good food and drinks. The service is terrible. They have an ordering system where you use your phone. 20% gratuity is added automatically to your bill. This is part of the restaurant’s pledge to pay a living wage to their staff. This is, on paper, a great thing. In reality, this gives the waitstaff zero incentive to do much else than the bare minimum. If you need a spoon for your child or extra napkins - good luck. Those are not listed on the user interface on your phone. If you have a couple of hours to leisurely eat and have no other requests then this is your place. If you are looking for good customer service to that match the elevated prices of your food and drink, look elsewhere.
It was like a Mexican McDonald’s with tequila. Mediocre at the very best. The food was just a notch above palatable. The server was delightful. It took forever to get a drink after it was ordered. They have a lot of work to do if they want to stay in business
Beware that this restaurant has now implemented a "serverless" aspect, which can be a bit frustrating. We were greeted by someone who instructed us on how to order through the app (yes you place your own orders, not the server), and how to get their attention if needed. Basically push a button and it will ring their watch. Unfortunately, we didn't find this feature to work. We had ordered unlimited chips and it took over 20 minutes to get a refill on them. We pushed the button and got no response. We caught 3 different people as they passed by and asked them for chips, and finally the 3rd person brought them. We then turned off the green button because clearly it didn't work. We only saw people when they brought us our drinks or food and then checked out on our own. So keep in mind they automatically add 20% to your bill for "service" aka gratuity. Which stinks because the service was less than par. I guess this is the new world we live in! Otherwise, food was great and drinks were pretty good but not the best margaritas I've ever had.
Casa del Barco has got it right. The patio was perfect for a May evening dinner. The service was top notch and the food & drinks were delicious as always. CDB has really figured out the best way to serve its guests during the pandemic with easy contactless ordering on your phone while keeping the friendly attentive service! Thanks for a wonderful evening!
Great experience! If you’ve never been before, walk/drive to the intersection of S 12th Street and E. Byrd: that’s the Canal Walk and the restaurant is on 12th street. Once I finally made it (after being lost😅), I was seated and had amazing service (thanks Heather!🙂)! The guacamole & chips and carnitas quesadilla were delicious and the Blood Orange Whiskey Sour was satisfying 🥃☺️. Sat inside, but had a nice view of the outside from my booth: best of both worlds 🙃. Highly recommend!
We ate out on the patio, very nice next to the canal. All of us did not like they are still using the app to order and menu both. Most have gone back to ordering as usual.
All ordering done on the app. Wait staff still helpful answering questions.
Meals came quickly. Tip automatically included in the bill.
This is our go-to for outdoor dining - the canal walk is a great location and the staff is always helpful. Gavin was our server and he was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly without being intrusive - a perfect evening.
Casa del Barco is an awesome ace to wat and get a drink. Food is amazing and it has a great happy hour selection form 4 to 6pm Monday to Friday.
You can't go wrong with this spot.
You order everything on your phone, the wait staff don’t seem to want to be bothered when needing assistance with ordering. Wait staff also don’t check up often for drink refills. Food was delish and came out quick
Not a fan of the electronic only menus and automated ordering all while having a mandated 20% adder.
No brunch menu which was disappointing but the food was still great. The service was great. Non tech savvy folks will have difficulty ordering via mobile menu. Location is great, especially outside.
The service was truly wonderful, but the menu was condensed and the food was almost flavorless. I know that COVID impacted this business like many others, so we are understanding of the short menu, however, the quality of food was truly not good. I would go back to Casa del Barco but likely just for drinks and views!
We ate outside. The weather was nice and the ambiance of the downtown area added to the enjoyment of the visit.
Mother’s Day Weekend
What a great venue! The servers were very quick to answer questions and the food was exceptionally good.
Always a good time and meal at Casa del Barco. We can walk there from Manchester and love the convenience. Tried the fajitas for the first time and will definitely be ordering them again!
The way they have changed things for Covid have been awesome. We enjoyed some of the best steak fajitas my husband and I have ever enjoyed. Sooo good!!
We have dined at Casa del Barco a number of times previously so I will assume the mediocre level of service, including the inaccuracy of our order from the kitchen, was due to inexperienced staff relating to the Covid pandemic. Our server was very friendly, but I had to ask a twice as to where one of the beverages were that we ordered. As it turned out our server had submitted only one of the two drinks ordered, even though she stated she would be right back with the other beverage In addition one of the entrees was not accurate, although it was rectified in a few minutes. ln retrospect, this experience was clearly sub par as compared to the many other times we have dined at this restaurant in the past.
Great food! a little overpriced but great food! great atmosphere
You’re paying for the setting of eating on the old canal and nothing more. A small menu is worthwhile if properly planned and executed, however you’ll find the opposite here. There are better options with better parking across the city don’t waste them.
This was a real spot at one time. Perhaps hit by the pandemic. Drinks insulting & shorts the server, at least based on our usual tipping. The limited interaction with staff was very pleasant. Won’t be returning until I hear they are back.
The wait was very long for our food. The food was delicious and ambiance amazing but the experience was lacking because of the wait.
