It is not the steak house it use to be. Poor selection on the menu and the value was way off to the high end. Have been a customer since it opened. Not liking the new direction.
Food was very good. We had the salmon, filet mignon and crab cakes. Noise level was low but we were there at opening and it was not crowded. Service was great.
Very good tasting menu focused on local ingredients and wine pairings from Arizona, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner
It’s was good. Excellent service. They were able to make me a burger that was only offered at happy hour. That was very nice.
The service was excellent 3 of us had the combo venison, bison and roast beef. Only one of the meats was chewable the others we too tuff.

Used to be a favorite place to dine. So disappointed this time. New menu is overpriced and lacks choices that I used to enjoy here. Service was slow.

The service and ambiance was great however; the chocolate cheesecake was awful so was the pecan cake. And my husband’s steak was tough.

Prime rib steak was not as tender as I would have expected for this cut of meat.

Steak ordered med rare was med well done. Two meals were good. Fourth was not. Drinks were good.

We have been serving only USDA Prime beef for the last two years and hope our guests appreciate the higher quality of food. We still have wonderful steaks including our 6oz. or 12oz. filet, our 12oz. Mary Louise was a great server. So pleasant and knowledgeable. Food was interesting and quite good. Calamari, venison meatballs and salmon were great. Onion soup was not as expected and tasted wine based. But it was OK. Atmosphere was rustic but classy. There was a table of loud people who had a little too much to drink but I don’t fault the restaurant.

Surprisingly quiet for a Saturday night but we had a good time. The ladies had the stroganoff and the men had the pork shoulder. All dishes were very well prepared, hot, and tasty. The pork shoulder was not dry as I feared it might be. The little pita bread triangles that came as the intro bread course were on the chewy side. Overall a very good experience. We will go back.

We were prepared to spend a considerable sum of money. However, they were out of our desired wine and suggested the closest alternative but didn’t charge the same price as the one we wanted. Entrees don’t come with any side and while not on the menus, the server did offer a baked potato. That one potato cost $10!! That was more than any of the other sides that were large enough to serve several people. A bit exorbitant! This isn’t to say we won’t go again, but will certainly ask more questions when ordering.

Cartwright's used to be our favorite until they went to their new "modern" menu. Took our friends there while bragging about what a great place it is and we were embarrassed by the poor quality and high prices. Cocktail menu skimpy, Caesar salad tasteless, Alaskan halibut mediocre as judged by three of us. Filet just OK. Pie was good but unlike any normal pie with a few dabs of stuff around the plate. Everything over priced for the quality. We will not return. I emailed my concerns to the restaurant but they never responded.

The food was very good but the menu was more limited than it was in the past. It was also more expensive than I remember it being.

We brought a guest from out of town. It was our third visit and we had a wonderful evening.

We were greeted and seated in a friendly and professional way and the service continued in a similar fashion. The food was solid overall. The fish was fresh and well-prepared. The biggest concern we have is around value. For a meal of one glass of wine, one appetizer, one entree, one side vegetable, a scoop of ice cream and a cup of coffee, the cost with tip was $96. That is a hefty tab for casual cuisine. Two nights later we had an almost identical meal in terms of content at the Tonto Grill, which used to be connected to Cartwright's, and the tab with tip was $60 per person. A meal of similar content at Keeler's Steakhouse nearby was $65 per person with tip. There is nothing about Cartwright's as currently presented that would justify that big a difference in price. My feeling would be that they are going to have to significantly reduce price if they are going to be competitive. I hope they do so as it is a nice spot and deserves a sustained run.

We had visited Cartwright's some years ago and enjoyed the experience. This visit was a disappointment because of the menu change. My wife had the salmon which she stated she would not order again. I had the bison and venison burger. It was stringy and difficult to chew. The flavor was average. I also ordered a dry rob roy with an olive. The drink was good but I found that it had a cherry in it rather than an olive. The drink was tolerable but not prepared as requested. We are great fans of its sister restaurant, Tonto Bar and Grill, and that is where we will go in the future.

The Service was impeccable!! We started with crab cakes and calamari they were the best we’ve ever had then Caesar salads not our favorite if you’re looking for a traditional Caesar this is not it —the filet was delish as was the trout risotto stir fried mushrooms and the New York —can’t beat a Cartwright’s steak anywhere in Cave Creek!!!

We have dined at Cartwright's many times, through several chefs and menu changes. My husband tends to stick with his "tried and true" favorites, and at Cartwright's that is the Stroganoff dish. It is consistently delicious for him, as are the sushi roll appetizers. I decided to branch out, choosing the Crab Cakes appetizer, which was wonderfully all crab and yummy. The accompanying sauce was delish. For my entree, I chose the Bison, which turned out to be a sirloin cut and possibly the toughest piece of meat I have ever had on a plate. It was well prepared, to my request of medium rare, but I could hardly even cut it with a steak knife. I had Mushroom Risotto as a side, and it was fresh and delicious. Our server was friendly, helpful, and when she asked how our meal was, I did tell her that the steak was too tough to eat. She immediately offered to get me another, or something else, but I chose not to. They were very fair in our billing, even though we did not request any accommodation, and I would definitely recommend this restaurant based on past experiences.

I wouldn't say yes or no. It was okay. Definitely not as good as Mastro's. Everything was just okay. Nothing bad, but nothing great.

Let me start out with I don’t mind spending ~$100 a person for good food. But at this cost meat was dry and hard to eat for three of the meat dishes we ordered. Noise level loud with unruly drunk customers that staff did nothing about. The waitress kept pushing the THE DESTINATION CHEF’S TASTING plate, that was $125 per person this night that was a sampling half meat/fish plate and she suggested we should add extra sides with this item. She kept pushing we should all get the chef’s tasting plate even when we told her three of us don’t want any fish. Clearly she was pushing the high cost menu items and not listening. So three order meat dish’s and one fish. 1 person ordered the high end game burger and the meat was so hard we could not cut the Hamburger in two and was like leather. 2 ordered the pork shoulder that also seemed like it had been sitting out and cold and dry. The last was the Salmon that was ok but nothing to rave about. Too bad as our home close by and was hoping to find a regular place to take family and friends.

We arrived at the restaurant and were immediately shown to our table. The area where we were seated had only a few other folks in it, so there was no noise. The decor was nice, and our seats were comfortable. The menu was not as extensive as many restaurants' menus are, but it was quite adequate. There was a wide range of choices, including seafood, beef, pork, chicken and game meats. It was an ala carte menu, so we only chose one side to go with our meal and nothing to begin with. The sides we chose were quite large, and one to share would have sufficed. The mushroom risotto we chose was delicious. Our meat was cooked exactly the way we had specified. All in all, a nice dining experience.
