   Friends we invited along thanks us for introducing them to Carruthers. The ambience is pleasant and encompasses an understated elegance. The menu is varied and the food prepared perfectly! I usually dislike chocolate cake but the Carruthers Cake (I do not remember the exact name) which is chocolate cake, chocolate fondant, whipped cream and sea salt was amazing! This is a restaurant worth visiting.

   Nice restaurant with fun antique decor and ambiance. Great craft cocktails, and super nice bartenders (we sat at the bar). Food was pretty good but by seared ahi didn’t seem super freshly seared. Seemed like it was seared earlier then warmed up. But overall the food was good and the service was very good. There was a large prom group while we were there so that always adds a challenge to a restaurant kitchen.

   The restaurant was busy. Thus the service was not at the level expected from this restaurant. Possibly it was under staffed for a Saturday evening. The calamari starter was so-so. The brussel sprouts were excellent. The entree menu was lacking options. I opted for the Pad Thai, which was okay. The ahi tasted a bit like smoked jerky but was properly cooked and was tasty. The waitress was busy with multiple large tables and we were ignored for a time. Finer dining establishments seem to be something Astoria lacks. We do greatly appreciate the efforts put forth by staff and we rewarded them accordingly.

   Seared Ahi tuna: difficult to ruin. Caruthers did manage to do that! Sazerac (cocktail): first one was perfect… second one was radically different. Quality control lacking! Salad was tasty. Service was ok, but, waiter should have cleaned/covered the mess he made when clearing main course plates.

   The service was poor. We ordered starters and entrees. All the food came out at once. The server never brought the wine. We had to flag a manager down to get the wine. The server never came back to the table to check on us. The burger was over cooked with a burned bun and burned bacon. The “Caesar salad” had cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions and a dressing that was not a “Caesar dressing.” When asked about this the manager said, “that’s just how we make our Caesar salad. Ugh. And it was served in a small soup bowl. At the end the manager reduced our bill from $150 to $30. We had looked forward to this dinner for weeks. We drove out from Portland specifically to dine at Carruthers after following them on Instagram. What a waste of time.

    Carruthers is a cozy and chic restaurant located in the heart of Astoria. The restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere with soft lighting, comfortable seating, and tasteful decor. The menu features a fusion of Asian and American cuisine, with an emphasis on fresh and locally sourced ingredients. The service at The Carruthers was impeccable. Our bartender/server was knowledgeable and attentive, and made great recommendations throughout the meal. The overall experience was exceptional, and we would definitely recommend The Carruthers to anyone looking for a great meal in Astoria.

    We love this place. Seats at the bar are comfortable. Bartender is friendly and fun. The all day menu items are very tasty. BBQ cauliflower wings, yum. Caruthers salad, Mexican corn fries are so good and crispy. Directly across from the Liberty makes it an ideal dinner and a show spot.

    Great service. Love the way the restaurant has their tables so that you have a semi private dining experience in a dining room. All four meals were well prepared, hot to arrive at the table. Definitely will return.

    We thought the food and beverages were good. Paying that much for dinner, you shouldn’t have to refill your own water glasses. We split a peach cobbler with our after dinner drinks. There was possibly two small chunks of peach. Kind of a a poor way to end what had been a very nice meal.

    The food was delicious but came out room temperature which was disappointing for the grits but still very flavorful. The waitress seemed to be trying to rush us a bit and kept taking the drink menu and we kept having to ask for it back after ordering drinks.

    While it's always been very good, Carruthers recently upped their game. The new menu is creative and satisfying. It includes bourbon pecan salmon, a really nice carrots and squash dish, bruschetta with smoked steelhead, and seared scallops. It's also a lovely place with a very good bar and very good service. I also appreciate that it takes reservations.

    We were in Astoria to celebrate our 25th anniversary and had a very lovely dinner here on a busy Saturday night. The wine and food were fantastic, the service was great and we really enjoyed our experience. It is the perfect spot for a nice dinner in Astoria.
