Carruthers was probably grand back in the day (think of the dining scene in Titanic). While the space seemed vintage, the soul seems to have left. Overall the food was good, but no WOW. The clam appetizer was tasty but stingy with the crustini. The ribeye steaks were tender. But they were served on top of the mash and seasonal vegetables in a bowl??? Impossible to cut a steak in bowl; had to request real plates. The Malbec was delicious and the chocolate dessert was the star of the evening. Service was cordial, even personable but having to ask for plates and an empty wine bottle to be removed was another miss. The menu has changed, no chilean sea bass or cioppino. Overall 3.5 stars, expected 5.

It would be nice if they had a dinner special but they did not so we ordered off the menu which was still very good.

First up, the staff are just lovely and thoughtful. Full marks to them. We had the pork and there flavors were spot on and just a wonderful combination, but … the plate was room temperature, and the grits and vegetables varied in temperature (lukewarm mostly), depending on how close they had been to the pork, and the pork while flavorful, was tough and overcooked. The whiskey cherry sauce was delicious, and the dish was brilliantly conceived but poorly executed. However, I would try them again since so many things that should have been amazing were let down by a poor performance, which hopefully was just a singular error.

We placed on our reservation that we had a table for 2 to celebrate my wife’s birthday and we were placed at a 2 top in a small corner with a large party of about 15-20 about an arms length away. They were giving awards and celebrating something as well but they kept standing right in front of us and their butts were less than an arms length away. We loved that they were having fun but they were also extremely loud and We asked kindly if they wouldn’t mind moving to stand in another location but they said they won’t be long. We just decided to leave after a cocktail.

Food was delicious, nice atmosphere and service was ok, except our waiter liked to talk about himself, a lot. We were looking forward to a quiet dinner, but he intruded a bit too much. We would return because tje food was very good.

The food we had was outstanding! The only problem is we never got past appetizers and drinks as our waitress never came back to take our order! We were really enjoying the atmosphere and the exceptional appetizers and the waitress who was apparently new was delightful when we saw her! So we would recommend the place!

This is the work of Jimbo, a brilliant guy. And I’m happy to know him and his restaurants. Thank you Jimbo for the fabulous experience that is Carruthers.
