About Carpe Diem Restaurant
Carpe Diem has been open since 1989. We have moved twice due to downtown business developments, but are now in our third incarnation at 1535 Elizabeth Avenue. Our interior is done in a beautiful art nouveau style. Mahogany doors, copper lighting that vines around the wood work, and marble floors are just a few details that will engage you in the surroundings. We, the proprietors, sisters Tricia Maddrey and Bonnie Warford, are from Miami, Florida. Our interest in food grew from a love of the Latin and tropical flavors that influenced us growing up. Our menu offers a variety of dishes reflecting "new American" cuisine.

Carpe Diem Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Went on a double date night during restaurant week. The food, service and atmosphere were absolutely amazing! After dinner we went to another nearby establishment for drinks and ended up returning back to Carpe Diem to enjoy the bar area for drinks there as well. Carpe Diem did not disappoint! Will definitely return!
My wife and I have been there twice. The room is beautiful. The food is good, mostly. The prices are on the high side. As seems to be the current fashion of upper tier restaurants these days, the presentation tends toward the little-food-on-big-plate style. No sides are included with the entree. On our last visit, the only side available at extra cost was spinach. Mixed drinks are in the $14.00 range. The dessert (coconut cake) was dense and refrigerator cold. While I didn't mind spending a little more for a special occasion, I left feeling I didn't really get my money's worth.
Carpe Diem is by far Charlotte’s finest restaurant. The food is prepared to perfection. The wait staff take everything into consideration while serving you. The ambiance is all encompassing. The food is presented and not served. It is uncomparible to other venues.
Celebrated my 40th birthday with friends before seeing a show at Ovens Auditorium. The service was great. The food was amazing. We had several different appetizers, including the beef carpaccio, the pizetta, and the sampler plate. They were all fantastic. Our entrees included the sea scallops, the mahi mahi special, and the pork shank. Again, they were incredible! We also had dessert. One of my favorite desserts to get anywhere is bread pudding and the one here was probably the best I’ve ever had! My friends got the coconut cake and the cobbler and enjoyed them as well. We’ll be recommending Carpe Diem to others!!!
Carpe Diem does it right! From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. We were led to an intimate dining alcove and our server, Crystal, was excellent. We both ordered the buttermilk fried chicken and did not disappoint....so yummy! Great place to celebrate our anniversary!
Carpe Diem is a good Saturday date night spot. Our food was tasty (we had the fried chicken and the pork shank) and our server was friendly. The Mexican chocolate cake for dessert was delicious. But the over all experience was dampened by the lackluster hostesses (there were two) whose greeting was delivered without eye contact or an ounce of enthusiasm. Not the best first impression for the establishment.
Salad was the best thing about this place. A close second was the beef carpaccio. The duck wings were too sweet and the oysters were small and flaccid. We decided on dessert and got the torte, however we ended up eating a stick of fudge with a crust that was difficult to cut with a fork. Our watress was awkward and didn't know the specials. Not worth going to for the price.
My wife and I went here for a date. We went in knowing it was a standard american menu, and we were not let down. There was not a lot of creativity, and the Filet of Beef did have Potato Bignets, which was a fun twist. The Buttermilk Chicken had spinach and mashed potatoes/gravy, and all went together well as you would expect. Overall we enjoyed the experience.
Business dinner with executive team. Everyone really loved spot and we'll be back. Get the fried chicken. The 2 members of our group who got duck and pork chops were out-ordered by the 2 who got the fried chicken. Nothing's worse than fried-chicken envy.
For some reason, our server kept disappearing for long periods of time and we had wanted more wine. By the time she returned, our meal was over and we didn't want it any more. Ah well, saved the calories and the cost.
The brined pork chop was too salty --- but hey - they said it was brined. Shoulda caught the clue.
Will definitely go back. Hopefully the service was just an off-night and will avoid the pork chop.
Made a reservation for my girlfriend’s birthday. We were sat in the back, semi private room at a small, intimate table that was perfect for the two of us. Carpe Diem had taken it upon themselves to decorate the table prior to our arrival, which I thought was very welcoming and showed they cared about helping us celebrate the occasion. Lisa took care of our every need and the food was outstanding! We shared the beef carpaccio and grilled grape salad for an appetizer and mid course, then both devoured their famous buttermilk fried chicken for entrees. I would make a special trip back just for the fried chicken, one of the best dishes I’ve had in Charlotte. I definitely recommend Carpe Diem for a fantastic dinner that’s sure to impress.
Carpe Diem's food was excellent, but the highlight of our evening was the prompt, attentive service provided by our waitress (whose name I unfortunately forgot to obtain). Her explanations and recommendations about the menu were thoughtful and helpful, particularly to our guest, who has a food allergy.
We brought out-of-town foodies to this place and our meal was sorely disappointing. The grouper special of the evening had octopus and chorizo as well, but none of the flavors on the plate came together, the octopus being tough and rubbery, too. Our mussels appetizer was ok, nothing to shout about and it probably took 45 minutes between appetizer and entrees. Our server disappeared for most of this time, leaving our mussel shells sitting in front of us for a good 20 minutes. The only bright spot in the evening was the buttermilk fried chicken that they are known for. Thankfully we recouped our foodie friends’ trust by taking them to BLT Steak the next night. No one ever apologized to us for any missteps, so I don’t think we can return.
we got there late, after the show "on your feet"(Gloria Estefan) at 10:35 PM. While there was only one other couple still there, no problem being seated.
Food was great, and I'm fussy. I had rillettes of bunny over vegs and Colleen had duck breast with something I can't remember. The dessert of ginger rum cake was delicis
Have visited Carpe Diem for dinner many times and brought an out of town friend there last Friday night. As usual, did not disappoint. The food was spectacular. I had the filet, my wife had the scallops and our friend had the fried chicken and all were wonderful. I am especially fond of the goat cheese salad. Sat in the bar for an after dinner drink and enjoyed the vibe at the end of the evening. One of our 3 or 4 favorite restaurants in Charlotte for food and atmosphere.
Surprised the wife with a beautiful night out with family and friends, and fell in love. First of all the restaurant is beautiful and has an amazing wait staff. The food blew all 10 people in our party away 10/10. This is the first review I’ve left in 5yrs but this place was special.
