About Carpe Diem Restaurant
Carpe Diem has been open since 1989. We have moved twice due to downtown business developments, but are now in our third incarnation at 1535 Elizabeth Avenue. Our interior is done in a beautiful art nouveau style. Mahogany doors, copper lighting that vines around the wood work, and marble floors are just a few details that will engage you in the surroundings. We, the proprietors, sisters Tricia Maddrey and Bonnie Warford, are from Miami, Florida. Our interest in food grew from a love of the Latin and tropical flavors that influenced us growing up. Our menu offers a variety of dishes reflecting "new American" cuisine.

Carpe Diem Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Made a reservation for my girlfriend’s birthday. We were sat in the back, semi private room at a small, intimate table that was perfect for the two of us. Carpe Diem had taken it upon themselves to decorate the table prior to our arrival, which I thought was very welcoming and showed they cared about helping us celebrate the occasion. Lisa took care of our every need and the food was outstanding! We shared the beef carpaccio and grilled grape salad for an appetizer and mid course, then both devoured their famous buttermilk fried chicken for entrees. I would make a special trip back just for the fried chicken, one of the best dishes I’ve had in Charlotte. I definitely recommend Carpe Diem for a fantastic dinner that’s sure to impress.
Carpe Diem's food was excellent, but the highlight of our evening was the prompt, attentive service provided by our waitress (whose name I unfortunately forgot to obtain). Her explanations and recommendations about the menu were thoughtful and helpful, particularly to our guest, who has a food allergy.
We brought out-of-town foodies to this place and our meal was sorely disappointing. The grouper special of the evening had octopus and chorizo as well, but none of the flavors on the plate came together, the octopus being tough and rubbery, too. Our mussels appetizer was ok, nothing to shout about and it probably took 45 minutes between appetizer and entrees. Our server disappeared for most of this time, leaving our mussel shells sitting in front of us for a good 20 minutes. The only bright spot in the evening was the buttermilk fried chicken that they are known for. Thankfully we recouped our foodie friends’ trust by taking them to BLT Steak the next night. No one ever apologized to us for any missteps, so I don’t think we can return.
we got there late, after the show "on your feet"(Gloria Estefan) at 10:35 PM. While there was only one other couple still there, no problem being seated.
Food was great, and I'm fussy. I had rillettes of bunny over vegs and Colleen had duck breast with something I can't remember. The dessert of ginger rum cake was delicis
Have visited Carpe Diem for dinner many times and brought an out of town friend there last Friday night. As usual, did not disappoint. The food was spectacular. I had the filet, my wife had the scallops and our friend had the fried chicken and all were wonderful. I am especially fond of the goat cheese salad. Sat in the bar for an after dinner drink and enjoyed the vibe at the end of the evening. One of our 3 or 4 favorite restaurants in Charlotte for food and atmosphere.
Surprised the wife with a beautiful night out with family and friends, and fell in love. First of all the restaurant is beautiful and has an amazing wait staff. The food blew all 10 people in our party away 10/10. This is the first review I’ve left in 5yrs but this place was special.
We are long time patrons of Carpe Diem but this time was not up to speed. The mostly male staff didn't do much to make us feel welcome. They seemed rather indifferent. Our server Michael we fine but had to follow up on things that should have been done correctly. I had the warm goat cheese salad but the plate was so cold it cooled the cheese down. I never had it served that way before. A bit disappointing.
Food was good, but uninspired and unremarkable. Presentation was just average. Bread was warm and flavorful. Service was attentive and pleasant. Nothing to really complain about, but with so many choices available in Charlotte, I will try someplace else next time.
We were excited to try this highly rated restaurant. Very high quality cuisine. Each course meticulously prepared. Server could have been more engaged. Surpisingly, on a Saturday evening, no knowledge on staff to provide any guidance for what looked to be a good wine list. Great food, but just a mediocre experience on this evening.
Pork chop was red/pink inside and had to be reheated. Manager asked how I had requested it be cooked, like it was my fault, however I was never asked by the waitress how it was to be cooked. Also, I thought pork was never supposed to eaten rare? Table next to us had to do the same with a steak.
