Carmine's Ratings and Reviews
I Look forward to Dining at Carmines every visit to Chicago.
I enjoy the outside dining Summer and Winter.
I know the service will be consistent and the food exceptional.
I am sure there are new Italian restaurants in Chicago but I will
not get there as I know exactly what to expect at Carmines.
The food and ambience were only exceeded by the wonderful service. We were a group of women on a visit to Chicago and all the staff was wonderful. The only comment we all had was that portions were huge and no one could finish. It’s a shame as the food was outstanding!
Being November would have preferred sitting in the actual restaurant part. Enclosed terrace was ok, but will choose different seating next time. As for the entrees, they were excellent. Perfect sear on my salmon, and asparagus risotto was a good side. Lobster ravioli was also well prepared.Waiter recommendations were lacking and he needed to communicate the specials and the particulars of the entrees better. All and all can’t wait to go back!
Ate here for the first time last Saturday with a friend of mine; we both loved the food and service! For entrees, she had the veal medallions; I had the Osso Bucco Special! For dessert, she had the cheesecake; I had the Godiva chocolate truffle cake(which was the size of an aircraft carrier)! Our server Johnny was great, too: efficient, knowledgeable and fun to work with (made good wine recommendations on top of that)! The ambiance was very cozy and welcoming; loved the dark wood floors, warm friendly lighting, and all the crazy stairs all over the place (definitely got a good quads & glutes workout from all the stair climbing)! We would definitely come back here!
Our Server was absolutely the best! He mentioned that fresh fish had just got in I tried the Chilean bass with the red sauce! Omg was it the best I ate the whole thing! If he didn't take the time to mentioned so many things we wouldn't of known. My husband went for the pasta with crumble sausage added. very nice. Michael Scott #558 what a gem he really made our day Check# 310058 he wasn't pushy or unfriendly. Very kind and caring person, we will go back hopefully we will have Michael take care of us. Very Trustworthy employee
Best meal and service I have ever experienced Every year I come to Chicago for a meeting. Always eat a Carmine's the first night for the past 20 years. Each time it gets better and better. this last time was the best ever. Hope I can make it another 20 years.
Fourth time going to Carmine's. Everytime I get out to Chicago I always make sure I make time to hit this great restaurant. Our sever Paula was amazing. She really made the whole evening come together perfectly. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area.
Walking in it has a great feel. We waited in the bar, and the bar keep was great,
Went to table, service was quick.
One issue was drinks. Order a scotch on rocks and it was a very small pour for a very hefty price. Don't mind paying but not for air.
Food is over the moon. Very tasty, great flavor, nice and hot.
Ordered with linguine, came with no pasta, kicked the dish back, it was returned with spaghetti. Lol, was very good.
We were visiting from Oklahoma and our Lyft driver recommended, and boy are we glad he did!! we love Italian and the options in OK lack. It was delicious and the portions are enough for two easily!!! Would definitely come back. Rachel was a great and friendly server! Ohana!
We were staying in a hotel around the corner and used Open Table to make the reservation. Our service was very good, prompt and staff was trained well. Our food arrived hot and timely. As this is a very busy place and the tables were turning over quickly, we asked the waiter to slow things up a bit as we were celebrating our 26th anniversary and wanted to celebrate. I did mention this on the reservation but the front desk did not mention this on our way in..but no issue. It was a Thursday night and the restaurant filled up quickly. Great for tables of 2,3,4,5 but would be difficult with a large table. Loved the atmosphere, food and ambiance of Carmine's.
The food and service were both outstanding. The portions are large. Two of us could barely finish the fried calamari appetizer. It was delicious. Our waitress Paulina was perfect, knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive. Highly recommend Carmine’s!
It just seemed like it was coasting on its reputation. My ribeye (the most expensive cut on the menu) was totally mediocre. The steak knife provided was old and ineffective at cutting through the marbling.
Our server was great, but the bussers were inattentive. They just gathered together in a corner and joked around with each other while our needs weren’t being met.
Toward the beginning of the night one member of the staff, I guess it was the end of his shift, because he was hanging out with the staff still on the clock. He left the restaurant, and one minute later he was outside, knocking on the window. Everyone looked up at the window to see the guy giving the middle finger to his coworkers inside. It was totally done in jest and the bussers laughed, but essentially everyone in the garden at that moment saw him do it. I’m not going to pretend I was offended because everyone gives the finger at some point, but it was pretty trashy and unprofessional. I didn’t expect to see it done at a restaurant like Carmine’s.
Overall I was super underwhelmed. I could get a better steak with more professional staff somewhere else. I basically payed $200 to struggle through my steak and get flipped off. I seriously doubt I’ll ever set foot in there again.
Absolutely wonderful. Great food, great service, great value. I have no idea how they take wonderful Italian food and turn it into spectacular Italian food. It's the same stuff you order else where but better.
Worth a special trip and a great destination for friends and family get togethers.
