   We didn’t have an experience this day since Open Table was still active for Carmines yet the establishment was closed for renovations. We like carmines when we visit Chicago but are not local …. As we were planning to celebrate our daughters college graduation this evening in Chicago I was appalled that either carmines or Open table didn’t turn off the ability to book this restaurant when we made the reservation weeks ago — we’ve never had a problem with this in years of using open table. Some would say I should have called the restaurant but every other restaurant we are dining at this week in Chicago via open table is not a problem…. Never had an open table problem ever…. So shame on Carmines for not turning off the ability to make a reservation. Not a way to run an otherwise good establishment.

   My daughter and I went on a spur of the moment. We were able to make a reservation for a time we wanted which was great. Appetizers were very good - stuffed mushrooms and bruschetta (tip - if you like small bruschetta - you may not like this one - they come on toasted bread that is more like Texas toast!). Filet mignon was delish! Sides were also very good. They told us they are closing for renovations next week - for a year and a half !! :( :(

   I’m so sad they are closing !!!!!!!! I’ve been going thrrr 20 years!!! They better build a new one quickly and upscale

   We visited Carmines about a week before the big renovations were taking place. It was still packed! Because of this food and drinks did take quite a bit to arrive, waiter seemed very overwhelmed. That being said the food was absolutely fantastic as well as the energy. Very excited to visit after the renovations are complete!

   Good food with a good location. We were sat in what seemed a strangely different area of the restaurant with our kids when the other half seemed much more upscale.

   Ambiance: 2/10, we were seated upstairs in the corner facing a wall, perhaps this score would be better if seated downstairs but the vibe was totally off from the moment we sat down Service: waitress never introduced herself, asked us how our food/drinks were and was very short with every interaction. We had to flag her down when we needed something Food: ceaser salad was the best thing we ate, bruschetta was just flavorless tomatoes and cold parmesan on stale bread, pasta was decent at best but for the price point I could’ve made the same thing at home for 1/5 of the price. We got the linguine and clams and the rigatoni alla vodka. Drinks: tasted like a well drink at a dive bar. I got a grapefruit martini and it was warm and tasted like straight liquor. My partner got a mule that was lacking ginger beer and lime. 18 dollars for a cocktail and I might as well have bought a fifth of Smirnoff and taken pulls at the table Bill: 170 for 2 people spent on bad apps, entrees, bad service and bad ambiance. What a fail of a restaurant experience. Do not waste your time or money at this “famous” establishment
