Carmine's red sauce is the best I have ever tasted! The restaurant is undergoing remodeling so the ambiance was somewhat lacking but the food was wonderful. I had the square noodles with the awesome red sauce and a really tasty meatball. My sister had the baked rigatoni and loved it.
Great food & service good atmosphere
We never were seated. We waited an hour for our reservation. We left out of frustration. it seemed chaotic, the hostess was flustered, they were overbooked. Open table should of never booked the reservation when the restaurant was that booked. Basically ruined our evening. They are remodeling, very messy.
This has been a tradition for the last few years... our family participates in Hustle up the Hancock and we enjoy an Italian dinner the night before...
This past Saturday the outside temperature was not a typical February day in Chicago, it was above average. Unfortunately, the temperature upstairs was very warm and I was sweating throughout my meal. I could not finish my meal as I was uncomfortable. I had to pass on desert as I could not stay longer to eat a nice sweet treat.
The table next to us complained about the temperature, and it appears they did something about it. But it was too late.....
Our dinner was not as good as it should have been which I think correlate to the overall temperature experience...
The service was excellent as usual we sat promptly based on our reservation time...
Just wish the circumstances where better....
Seated upstairs. The room was like an oven. Beautiful 50 degree day but the upstairs had to be 85-90 degrees. We hurried and left before dessert due to the heat. Waiter was very good and personable but extremely busy and over tasked. Attending to our table was a fly by event.
The Ambiance was beautiful, the service was attention to detail , prompt yet genuine and sincere with a dash of humor. Scott was our server and was amazing with explanation of menu specs and knowing we were from Wisconsin based off the old Fashions we ordered. This is our go-to place when we're in Chicago in February every year. Why go somewhere else when everything is here at Carmines.
It's always a pleasure to dine at Carmine's. Paula is a treasure!
This is always my go to when I visit Chicago. I have never had a bad experience and the food is always amazing!
Service was slow and the noise level was high. Room was extremely cold
Great service, great food, and a nice location to The Broadway Playhouse Theatre. Been here twice in the last couple months. Never disappoints!
My waiter was a guy name nick. Awesome service will return.. my steak was amazing.
We would’ve never booked Carmine’s for our party of 7 if we knew that it’s under construction & that we were going to sit in their outside heated space. It was freezing & we were sat by the doors/windows. The food was under seasoned, one dish we sent back, it was wrong. And the server was so dis-shelved & seemed like he didn’t like us, even though we were an easy group. I would not recommend Carmine’s based on this last experience.
Service was excellent. Food was only ok.
They jammed so many tables into such a small place. Unfortunately, there is no room for staff and we had multiple times where the bus boys were running & carrying trays FULL of dishware over their heads (and ours) to run them to the other side. I dont very much care for having dinner where heavy trays fly over my head multiple times. This also interrupted our waiter and our ability to interact with him since every 2 minutes these bus boys needed to run past and my waiter had to excise himself and walk to the end of the tiny aisle, so they can get through. The food was just “ok”. Nothing exceptional, and nothing stood out. I’d pass on coming here again. Not worth it. So many romantic places to go- you don’t have to settle for feeling like a sardine squeezed into a can.
My wife’s birthday!
We came to this location after we went to the Rosemont location. The service was horrible. We didn’t have napkins or forks, until asked for it. He asked if we already knew what we wanted to order within a minute of attending to us. He then proceeded to come and ask over and over again till we finally ordered
The food wasn’t cooked the way we asked. The chicken wasn’t even well done. Greatly disappointed what a waste of $150 and date night.
I would not recommend
The food was absolutely delicious. Our Valentines weekend was made after eating there.
Excellent food and service. Quite loud, hard to hold a conversation. Tables are very close together. Continually getting bumped
Valentines day with my special lady. Service was great, waiter was friendly and helpful. Food was delicious.
Going out for a late dinner on Valentine's Day didn't seem like a bad idea, but it turns out it was. We can only imagine what it must be like to serve dinner to most of humanity on one night. We came on time for our reservation and had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. That is to be expected on one of the busiest nights of the year and is not the reason for the "fair" rating. Carmine's, which we have enjoyed many times in the past, failed to meet minimum standards for a quality dining experience. Our harried server was distracted and, mostly, absent. The caesar's salad was without dressing. The GF pasta was the size and consistency of spaghetti that can be found in a can. The seafood specialty pasta dish primarily consisted of tough squid, cut in huge rings. Most disappointing, however, was where we were seated. The side outdoor area had been converted to a 4 season room, but was poorly heated and drafty. Valentine's Day in Chicago was quite cold...about 7degrees Fahrenheit. Condensation from the ceiling heating array dripped on our table and every time someone entered the restaurant, an arctic blast passed over us. We were moved to an adjacent table which was a small improvement. Carmine's overbooked their restaurant and was ill equipped to manage the crowd. For that, I can no longer recommend it.
Food and service was exceptional. Sat in covered patio area and it was freezing (colder temp than usual outside for winter). Everybody around had their coats on. There was one heat lamp on ceiling but was making annoying buzzing sound entire time.
Great food, great service. We were in the dining room near the doors. It was absolutely freezing. We had to keep coats on and I ate wearing a winter hat. Many people were complaining and asking to be re-seated. Because it was Valentine’s Day, we understood that being re-seated would take awhile.
Horrible service, horrible food, overall bad experience.
You need a revolving door. It was absolutely freezing at our table the entire time.
Goood not great
Went for lunch. It was good but out dated and just looked old inside. Other than that everything was fine. The chicken parmigiana was really good.
Meeting with Old Friends
Food is fantastic, portions are large but service can be inconsistent. Overall worthwhile, make a reservation!
Great food and service!
I ordered from the Restaurant Week menu. I ordered calamari for an appetizer, white fish w/red sauce pasta for entree and tiramisu for dessert. The calamari, in my opinion, was cut too thick which made it tough to chew. The white fish I really didn't enjoy, nor did I like the pasta. I am not a fan of tiramisu, so there was no surprise that I didn't enjoy that. My server was pleasant.
Birthday dinner for my daughter, Carmine's is one of her favorites. Our experiences here are consistent - food quality is exceptional and the service is outstanding. We would highly recommend Carmine's and will most definitely return for another fantastic dining experience!
Great experience. Went here on a referral. Lots of staff tending to us. Nice folks with a smile. We were tired and hungry and seemed to really fit the bill. They were almost too nice as there was somebody there to take my plat before my fork hit my empty plate. I don’t care for that so much but overall we had a 7 yr old in tow and wanted to get back to our room.
Loved our food and where they sat us...though on the way to lower level corner....that familiar Chicago sewer smell wafted our way....
It was way too loud! We were a table of 8 and they sat us close to the bar. They had a one person band that was over the top loud. We had to shout to speak to each other. We complained and they took it done for one song and then he turned it back up. It was disappointing to say the least.
The food was very mediocre. Not on par with the pricing. My steak was overcooked to the ordered temperature. Although the dining area was quiet we could hear the bar area which was very loud and intrusive.
