Carmelo's Ristorante Italiano - Houston Ratings and Reviews
I was not excited about Carmello's for two reasons. First, the restaurant had a peculiar odor which I noticed as soon as I entered. Second, the entrees were all fried or breaded in some way and heavy in sauce. I aim for clean cooking, and Carmello's is the opposite of that. Very heavy food, large portions, pedestrian flavor. Noone at the table (I had 3 business guests) said a word about the meal - which means it wasn't good. I would not return.
We have visited Carmelo’s for almost 30 years now. Wonderful atmosphere, delicious food, and gracious service. We took my daughter and son-in-law there last weekend for her birthday. We all ordered different dishes and desserts and LOVED them all. The meatball appetizers alone are worth the visit. Wonderful dining experience.
Excellent service and outstanding food.
I have been going to this restaurant for the past 6 years and always had a wonderful time and enjoyed the quality of the food
I am sorry that the restaurant has announced that will be closing at the end of the year
met friend there for lunch. both of us had the Caesar Salad's with chicken. they were great as always. we finished with a pair of Cappuccinos. I like this place for all of the main reasons. Great food, quiet place, great service, and the ambiance. Also, glad they have re-opened since Harvey. Great people.
Carmelo's was as good as usual-even though they had been reopened only a short time after the bad weather. Pleasantly greeted, checked-on by Carmelo himself, and presented us with a very elegant anniversary dessert. Still our very favorite anniversary/birthday restaurant after about 30 years or so.
Been to Carmelo's several times. Great, traditional, authentic Italian food and atmosphere. It is a little pricey but when entertaining on business, it is perfect. Not overly noisy, not pushy to turn over the table, great food and great wine. I will be back again.
Filet stroganoff was out of this world. Prepared tableside and one of the best meals I've EVER eaten. And we are foodies. Escargot was lovely and lasagna was spot on. Excellent service and a night we will remember for a very long time. We were celebrating our first date in this same restaurant 15 years ago. We need to remember to come more often. It was worth the drive for us.
Great meal and great experience. Only suggestion is to increase or add exhaust to the portable skillet that prepares food table-side. Aroma of the food being prepared for the next table (when we first arrived) was a bit overpowering.
This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in town. Mr. Mauro , the owner, and his staff always greet the guests and are very welcoming. I have been coming here quarterly with friends and for several years. I have also held a Board of Directors dinner here in one of the private dining rooms. I know the food is always fresh and will never be disappointed. The wine list is excellent with a wide variety from around the world.
My first visit to a Houston mainstay. Intimate, well designed ambiance lends one to relax and look forward to a great meal. Wait service is top notch and highly trained. Menu is comprehensive and while it will take several more visits to really understand the full capability of this establishment, I can say the Caesar salad is odd and not recommended. On the flipside, the escargot is a must have! Their seafood offerings are also extremely good, but I would like to see the bread be fresher, if not freshly baked, and more home-made pasta injected into the menu.
Carmelo's is one of favorite special ocassion restaurants . They did not let down this time either. My request when making our reservation was three things:
- a dozen red roses on the table ✔️
- intimate seating location ✔️
- the best waiter in the house (Sylvia was her name) ✔️
And of course the meal was its usual exemplary style and taste.
Great job once again.
This was my second time to eat at Carmelo's. My meal was very good. Service was a bit slow but it WAS a Friday night and we were chatting with our table mates for a while before we ordered. I never felt rushed. I would recommend this place for any occasion - a regular dinner out, a special occasion, etc. I can honestly say that this is probably going to be my "go to" place in West Houston. We live in the suburbs and most of the restaurants are chains - which can be okay now and then, but totally uninspiring!
