We went to Carmello's on a Sunday Evening during the Buskers Festival in Ottawa. The reviews on Open Table were pretty good and we'd never been there so we figured we'd give it a shot. Even though the place was almost empty inside (outside was very busy) and we had a reservation, we were given a table along the eastern wall that overlooks a dark parking garage with a bunch of construction equipment in it. Not really nice to look at. The waitress was very friendly but the service was painfully slow and the food very average.
Too much garlic and oil in pasta dishes. Could taste the garlic the whole next day.
Food was good, server was good. They were out of the wine we wanted. We went Sunday night and it was very quiet.
Nothing happening in that city on a Monday night so we had no idea we were going to have the best meal of our vacation ! Great staff, yummy food, friendly atmosphere and great central location. You can't beat it in Ottawa. We will return for sure !
My family of 6 really enjoyed our experience last night at Carmello's. The service was very good and the food was delicious. I cannot say anything negative about our experience. Between us we had various appetizers, steak and pizza, and delicious creme brulee with a lovely crispy exterior. Everything was scrumptious. I would strongly recommend this restaurant.
The food was the best part of the experience... Had a really good soup... calamari was prepared a bit differently than usual (no breading)... which was very good but the order was lost in the salad that accompanied it... so it didn't seem like you really had very much calamari served to you and if you didn't want to eat all the salad... it was hard to find all the calamari.
I was very disappointed that there was no free parking. This is one of the reasons I chose this restaurant and it is clearly stated on the website that there is free parking. When you call about parking... they refer you to a nearby hotel ($20+ charge) and note that it is at your own expense and that parking is available not free!
Great atmosphere. They were busy because of the ribfest but the service was incredible
While visiting Ottawa over the weekend, we found Carmello's through Opentable. Ribfest was taking place and part of it was along the pedestrian-only street that Carmello's patio is set against. Our waitress was nice but distracted - it took a long time to get water but our drinks came fast. Food was another story - not only did it take too long but the pizza was half cold & my pesto pasta was swimming in nothing but oil. Another pasta was overcooked (not al dente) & chicken was dry. Servers were definitely more interested in serving people on the patio close to the Ribfest action & the cooks were not interested in how they cooked their food. Not impressed with this restaurant.
I love the reservation app. Very easy to use. Carmellos was awesome and would recommend it to everyone. The food was amazing.
Decent fungi pasta but not great - slightly gelatenous. Glass of red houswine was poor. Service friendly and helpful. Nice menu choices.
