Carmella's Plates and Pints
The decor has a lodge-like feel due to the wooden beamed cathedral ceiling, an open fireplace, taxidermy and stained glass windows that adorn the dining room. Our guests feel as though they are tucked away in a warm and cozy ski lodge in the heart of Southside.
A Local Butcher delivers meats daily and they are always looking for unique items to prepare in new and inventive ways. Wild game plates can be on the menu such as a couple of staple dishes like our Bison Burger and Herb Crusted Duck Breaset. The menu changes seasonally and nightly specials are prepared with the hopes of making it onto our ever-evolving menu.

Great environment and selection of bourbon. The food was incredible. Highly recommend the wild boar meatballs, short rib, and hanger steak. We will definitely be back.
Excellent service. Food was spectacular. Great ambiance.
Birthday Dinner with family was very go9d. Excellent wild game entrees.
Carmellas was such a cute little find along the stretch of otherwise boring places. Dont let the little entrance confuse you, as it opens up into a beautiful bar and a warm dining room. Carmella, herself, was there and you could tell how much she loved her establishment and that our excellent experience was no fluke. We will be back again for sure !
Great food but very poor service. The server was unapologetic for multiple mistakes and said “listen ladies, mistakes happen, and this is my sisters restaurant.”
This was my first time at Carmella's and it definitely will not be my last. Wonderful food, incredible bar, and superb service at a very reasonable price. This just may become my favorite place to hang.
Large portions, food well prepared and delicious. A wobbly table and a little loud for brunch, but otherwise had a great time and would return.
Such a wonderful experience!!
A have a Restaurant Tour Group that visits a new restaurant every month... We were not only happy, but met and took a photo with the Chef 👨🏾🍳!!
Fantastic! I certainly will be back for my personal dining 🥰
Service was great and food was delicious. Cocktails were perfect too!
This was our fourth or fifth time at Carmella's. Our meal was great except that on Mother's Day, the mom at the table did not get her meal until after everyone else had gotten their meal and eaten theirs. There was a snafu in the kitchen. They took it off the bill.
Amazing!!! I would highly recommend - great atmosphere, food is absolutely delicious and service is top notch!!!!
We went for Mother's Day Brunch and the food was fantastic! We had people with us who had never been and really enjoyed themselves. Always a great experience!
Outstanding food, cool atmosphere, and great service. We have eaten here twice and will be back.
I have been to Carmella’s many times with great experiences. This Saturday night was more than off.
Our first table was so wobbly and not even fixable with cardboard we were moved.
The waitress continually interrupted our conversation. My soup which was my appetizer was brought before the others appetizers.
Most importantly I ordered the veal chop and it was inedible. Too tough with too much gristle. I wound up eating angel hair pasted with butter for $33 .
I told the waitress and she asked if I wanted anything else- since everyone else was finished eating of course I did not.
We all shared the caramelized bread pudding which was dry old bread with sugar burnt. No pudding at all,
We won’t be back for a long time
Oh and my husband had no silverware and I literally had to get up and track the waitress down as everyone else had their meals and were waiting to start eating
A wonderfully creative menu and preparation.
And a bourbon list to envy . . .
It was amazing they even had an open table. This place was amazing! It was a vibrant atmosphere, with well thought out, inviting, intimate decor. The food was fabulous and the service perfect. The French Press coffee service for dessert was lovely!
Enjoyed Easter Brunch at Carmella's. Wonderful food & great service. The beverage selection looked fantastic, but it was a bit early to enjoy it much! We will definitely return!
We came here for Easter Sunday Brunch. The whipped honey butter on the bread was delicious. I ordered the lobster mac and cheese which was very tasty. The cookies for dessert were pretty good. I wish they gave us more of them. I'm not sure if we were allowed to have more or not. The brunch menu selection was good and even included a vegetarian option (I had a vegetarian dining in my party). We had to sit in the bar area and it was a little cramped but other than that it was okay. Overall it was a pretty good value for a set price and I'm glad we came here.
We all enjoyed our meals and the atmosphere. The service was attentive but never intrusive. We are from Lancaster and were meeting family for Easter brunch - will definitely dine here again on one of our frequent trips to Pittsburgh!
We've had great times here in the past but was disappointed with our last visit. Brought friends and the experience was poor. Waiter was cranky and the front window was open even though it was 40 degrees and raining. The owner usually stops by and makes you feel welcome and at home. She did stop by our table but wasn't really interested in having a conversation even though the restaurant was not crowded. Our friends were unimpressed and we are not sure if we will be back.
Brunch and drinks were delicious! Great ambiance and inviting staff!
I will not be returning. I had my least enjoyable experience this past weekend for brunch of all the places I’ve booked on opentable. Service was terrible. Food took over an hour to get from the time we sat down. Nobody refilled our water or acknowledged us for 30 minutes while we waited for our food. The chicken was so salty it was inedible. Save your money. Go somewhere else.
Love Carmella's! The staff is always friendly and welcoming. It's your favorite bar + wonderfully prepared cuisine a la Chef Carl.
Our hanger steaks with a substituted cauliflower mash were excellent. Not too pricey either given the local market for steak around here. Had a friend with us who doesn't eat pork though, so if you don't your options are significantly limited here since it's bacon city!
Handsome decor and delectable drink and food menu.
Had a great meal. Our waiter was extremely attentive and friendly. The chef came to our table and introduced himself. Most importantly, the food was delicious. Loved the pork belly appetizer, chopped salad, smoked trout dip, bison burger and bread pudding. As you can see, we ate a lot and stayed for a long time. Great evening. First time visit. I will definitely return.
The hanger steak is always amazing, and the “award winning” asparagus soup is probably the reason I’ve been back so many times recently. Order the gnocchi as well! Love Carmella’s!
Great service by knowledgeable staff. We made a meal of small plates to try a variety. Tried a couple of the house made desserts as well. Got to meet the chef. This was a wow experience!
Great food and service!
One of my better dining experiences within the past year. I’m upset I forgot about it for awhile. Carmella’s is definitely one of my PGH favs!
Moved to Pittsburgh 4 months ago and have tried all the upscale places in the city. Carmellas was hands down the best all around. The Hanger Steak and Bison burger were 5 stars! Carmella herself came around to each table and ensured you were well taken care of. Great atmosphere, great service, throwback style, best food.
I got the steak tostada and the meat is delicious and the chimchurri so fresh and tasty!
it was St Patrick's day so imbibed in an Irish coffee which was made perfectly!
The staff is warm and friendly and the environment very cozy.
Had an early Sunday dinner with my family here and everything was perfect. The decor is warm and fun (and the place is so clean). We ordered everything from drinks to small plates to entrees and dessert. It was all fantastic. Super friendly service, too! I'll absolutely be back.
Little gem on the Southside of the Burg! Our waitress was great...
Brunch was delicious! I highly recommend ordering a banana old fashioned —- so good!
Fantastic atmosphere, great food, and excellent service.
One of our favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh! Food is fabulous, the ambience is unique and welcoming, and the service is wonderful! Highly recommend for dinner, drinks or weekend brunch!
Carmella's is the place to dine when you're in Pittsburgh. The staff and quality of food will make your dining experience unforgettable. Carmella's offers fantastic handcrafted drinks and a wine list for any budget. They have hundreds of whiskeys always available as well. The ambiance is very cozy with a bar scene that will not disappoint as your night out. Whether you're looking for a quick cocktail to relax after a long day or a fine dining culinary experience Carmell's is the place to be.
We will be back.
My husband and I love your restaurant! You were actually recommended by a friend of ours and we cannot stop telling our friends about you. I just joked with my husband that the only bad thing is that we don't have any leftovers, we clean our plates every time!
The food was great, service was top notch and it was just a great night.
