Carlyle Grill Ratings and Reviews
Service was AMAZING ! Food was excellent and the staff was very accommodating for our reservation size increasing at the last minute. We met her for a birthday party for 11 and it was a perfect choice. We came from out of town had an amazing experience and will defiantly suggest to others!
A few friends decided to get together for a nice dinner on New Year's Eve. Reservation process was smooth and effortless through Open Table. At the restaurant, once we were seated, our waitress was slow to approach us (being New Year's Eve it was busy, but not unusually busy for a 7:30 dinner hour.) She took our drink order and returned to say that they were our of cranberries for a featured drink on the menu. Then once she started to take our order, she proceeded to tell us they were out of several more items featured on the menu( which we found odd since it was still relatively early in the evening.) Once served, our waitress proceeded to rush us through the rest of our meal, even though the restaurant, by this time, was starting to slow down from the dinner rush. The food was good and the atmosphere was nice, just wish our waitress didn't rush us and the kitchen prepared better for a bigger than normal dinner on the last night of the year.
Love this place. Terrific happy hour or the main dining room. Food is decent value and always tasty. On such a busy night, December 23rd, our server Trace was personable and very knowledgeable of the food and cocktails. We dine in both the bar and the restaurant often. Great place to bring family or meet friends.
We were in a minor car accident on the way to our reservation. I called and explained and they held our table until we arrived-30 minutes late. They then attended to us, without making us feel rushed, so we could make it to our movie on time. We will return!!
Great, quick service and quality food. On holidays, they have special menus with affordable pries and generous portions. On any other day, menu has everything you could want and for a reasonable price. Definitely would recommend to someone who isn't sure of what they want for dinner. Can be a nice date night place but also a casual dinner with friends/family.
This was the second Thanksgiving that we have chosen to have dinner at Carlyle's, and we will be back again next year! The turkey is outstanding; moist and juicy, and the prime rib was cooked perfectly! Dinner is served family style, and includes salad, mashed sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green beans with carrots, stuffing, gravy, and choice of pecan or pumpkin pie (go with the pecan, or better yet, ask if they have the apple pie...it is ahhh-maaa-zing!). OH! And the amazing, crunchy, salty, fresh baked bread & butter (we went thru TWO baskets of those!). Now, I enjoyed all of the rest of the food, except the stuffing, which I found to be a little dry and a little too sweet, as opposed to the savory stuffing I grew up eating.
The service was wonderful, despite it being a holiday, and clearly this isn't our own little secret anymore, since it was FULL!
We will be back year after year, or until I decide to start cooking again :1)
We went for Thanksgiving, lots of folks but service was excellent. They took attention to those waiting, attentive waiter service, and the food was very good. The only down side is the noise level was hard to talk it was so loud, but could have been due to holiday on a less crowded time probably fine.
"Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner" was a lot of fun, very creative.
There were a lot of sides to try, and quality was great.
Not too noisy, even though restaurant was full.
I've also been here for lunch or dinner, and normal menu is very good, too.
Always good service.
Our Thanksgiving meal was delicous. The turkey was moist and the sides were done to perfection. Loved the roasted brussel sprots, cornbread stuffing, mashed sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes. Everything was seasoned just right. My husband opted for the prime rib and it was done to his liking as well. Very good service.
After many very good meals at Carlyle this one was particularly good because: 1) our server was attentive, helpful and didn't rush us. 2)Our bean burger and salmon dinners where particularly good because Carlyle is terrific about allowing substitutions; salmon perfect and the substituted sauteed mushrooms for the pro-offered, though normally somewhat tired veggie medley were superb
The Carlyle Grill is a perfect place to have a solid meal before or after a movie at the nearby Quality 16 Theater. The selection was good and the food was tasty and well-prepared. I had scallops and my wife had a salad meal- both were very good. Most notably, we had a delightful waitress who was pleasant, energetic, friendly (but not overly so) and efficient. We left a very good tip!
We were a little disappointed with our experience this time. Service was slow (for example no water refills until the manager came around, no offer for bread, etc.), food was slow (there was a large party and a group in the room). The Newport Salad which has been ordered numerous times, was different this time with no explanation in the menu. It didn't come out with the rest of the food, so that person had to wait. The chicken tenders that go on it were not ready when the salad was so they brought them out separate. Just not the typical experience we get at Carlyle.
Normally our service at Carlyle is fabulous, but I'm not sure what happened this time. Our waiter was initially fabulous, but as soon as we put our orders in (the first time he came to our table) things basically stopped. My daughter, who is 2, ordered buttered noodles and it was to come out with the soups and salads. It came out WAY later (approximately 10-15 minutes after). The French onion soup didn't have the normal carmelized crust it has. Our entrees were very slow to come out, the sides were a variety of temperatures from very cold to lukewarm. Our reservation was at 5:30 on a Monday, I'm not sure what the reasoning behind the poor service was, but it was disappointing. Luckily, I have a long track record of good experiences, so I/we still will be back.
Both my dinner in the wife’s dinner were overcooked and delivered to the table too cool to eat. The restaurant compensated by removing both dinners from my bill but after dining at Carlisle for many years this dinner was a surprising disappointment we trust that the restaurant will do much better on future occasions
My husband and I came to visit our daughter, a new U of M student. We had not heard of the Carlyle Grill prior to last week. All 3 of us had excellent dinners! The service was outstanding! I had a raspberry lemon drop martini, which was also excellent. We will definitely dine there again.

Picked this place for a dinner with friends because it had easy access and free parking and a varied menu. We settled for pizza -- the safe option and it was tasty. Some of the entrees seemed a bit pricey, but we did not try them. The best part about this place is the service! Overall nothing special, but a reliable, above average choice!
