Carlucci Restaurant Downers Grove Ratings and Reviews
It's great to connect with long-time friends, and our waiter immediately realized we had a lot of catching up to do, so he was attentive, but didn't rush us in the slightest. The Linguine in the Parmesan wheel was a treat, as always, and others enjoyed eggplant parmesan and a spicy chicken sandwich. The atmosphere is pleasant...usually quiet, I think we were the noisiest group in the room (oops!).
We all liked what we ordered but the best part was the desser Carluccis coffee! Loved it! The bar scene was lively and with live music and dancing. Altogether a very pleasant evening. We'd all go back again and soon I hope. I know a birthday is coming up soon!
I made a reservation through OpenTable for my father's 87th birthday dinner. We were promptly seated. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and suggested wines that complimented our meal. The food came promptly and was well heated. Most of all, it was delicious! They also surprised my father with an awesome birthday candle that I thought was going to launch! It was a lovely experience and we'll be back for many more happy occasions - including just dinner.
We were looking forward to dining at Carlucci, as we had been wanting to try it for some time. Overall, very disappointing. The caprese salad had mealy tomatoes which should never be the case this time of year. It also had little blobs of tomato puree or something that were not very tasty. Also accompanying the salad were several fruit flies.
Main course pastas were not very good. Their signature linguini was very oily and the pasta in the rigatoni Bolognese was gummy. Highlight was the tiramisu- very good. Will never go back.
The restaurant was way too dark, and the menu is printed too small. I could barely read it. Service was very slow. We were hoping for a quick in and out, and getting to bed early. This was not the case here. With that said, my daughter's pasta was OUTSTANDING. Basic spaghetti with meat sauce, but simply delicious!
We had not been to Carlucci's in a while (after a not-good experience); decided to give it another try. So much better this time! The food was very good (mahi for the ladies; guys had the linguine in the cheese wheel; salads, risotto, and shrimp starters). Service was on point. Nice wine selections too. We'll be back.
I'm not sure what changed, but definitely not for the better. Felt dirty upon entering, some ambiance patio lights were out, no candles on the tables. Minestrone was tasteless, fish overcooked. Service was good, yet too big of gaps between visits, leaving empty wine glasses awaiting another. Will probably be my last visit of very many over the years.
Took my wife and mother-in-law and they loved it. It was a Monday, so the restaurant was not very crowded. We were very impressed with the waiter - he was attentive, friendly, and happy to please us. His recommendations were spot on. My wife enjoyed the walleyed pike. Mother-in-law enjoyed the spaghetti and meat balls. And, I had the chicken vesuvio - large portion, very good. We will be adding this restaurant to our regular rotation of fine dining places.
I am the Activity Director at a memory care residential community. As a Heart's Desire program, I arranged for Mary, one of our residents, and her daughter to have lunch at an Italian restaurant to honor Mary's heritage and her lifelong love of cooking Italian food, a skill handed down from generations of Italian women, and the importance of sharing meals together. Carlucci's is one of the only quality Italian restaurants in the area open for lunch. The food was delicious and the staff was very attentive. Mary was delighted!
Wonderful restaurant! We were seated at a cozy, quiet booth. The waitress was extremely attentive. The owner even stopped by our table to make sure all was well! The wine list was extensive & priced fairly. Everything from the appetizer to the main entree was explicitly prepared to be visually appealing, and absolutely delicious! Would definitely return and recommend to all of our friends and family.
Terrible Steak. House Special that night. On menu as the Big 22. Asked for it MW, got MR and RARE.
Servers dropped off plates out of reach. When notified of bad steak, a manager did bring free Tiramisu to the table, but no price reduction or offer to cook a new steak. The price for this piece of meat was $36....very important to cook the steak to temperature at that price.
For this particular occasion, we chose to sit on Carlucci's beautiful patio. Their patio is one of the reasons I enjoy dining here so much! It is relaxing, with lots of foliage and a large fountain. During the week, it is a very peaceful place to have a pleasant conversation. (On Saturday nights, there is usually a band and it is a bit more lively- equally enjoyable.) For dinner, we started with calamari. And while we were not crazy about it, we all RAVED over our entrees: Penne Vodka w/mozzarella, Chicken Parm, and Chicken Piccata. Our service was excellent and our server even kindly brought out desert for the birthday girl. (Try their tiramisu!) This place is quite the gem. <3
We chose Carlucci's to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of good friends. We were immediately seated at a table that looked out onto the lovely secluded patio. The menu offered something to please everyone. At the conclusion of our meal, we were surprised with a slice of tiramisu topped with a sparkler. Our friends were impressed. Thanks, Carlucci's, for making this a memorable event.
We really enjoyed the Branzini (Italian sea bass). The very tasty asparagus was in about 2inch pieces, mixed with cherry tomatoes and seasonings Chicken Vesuvio was very good, large enough to take some home.
Misto Di Mare also very good, and took 1/2 home.
We could adjust these dishes to suit individual preferences, for example getting pasta instead of faro.
We had crispy calamari for an appetizer, which was plenty for four of us.
Desserts: a bowl of pistachio gelato, or a large piece of very dense chocolate cake, layered with a cream filling, covered in chocolate frosting, with pistachios sprinkled on the plate and a scoop of the pistachio gelato. This was enough for two, easily.
We were all very pleased.
My friends and I sat in the outdoor patio area, and it was such a pleasant area - tables around a central fountain. Every once in a while, we heard the traffic on nearby I-355, but we never saw it and any noise was mostly hidden by the layout of the patio. Although there was not a separate gluten-free menu, there were plenty of options and our waiter seemed knowledgeable about what was safe for me to eat. The food was very good, but a little pricey. Nice wine list!
The experience we had here was average at best for a high end italian restaurant. It took a long time to get out drinks and food. About 15-20 minutes for drinks, with appetizer arriving 5 minutes after drinks. Our main course took at least another hour after our appetizer to arrive and all we ordered was linguini in the cheese wheel. Both our dishes arrived already in a quarter of a cheese wheel (not a complete wheel) with someone just turning the pasta over a few times and portioning on our plates. I have ordered this dish from other restaurants and found this one to be creamy, but overall bland. I was expecting it to have alot more flavor and texture from the Parmesan cheese wheel but it did not even though I asked for plenty of cheese on my dish.
