Carlo's Italian Bistro Ratings and Reviews
In our review of a week ago we didn't mention the excellent mussels in a terrific white wine/garlic sauce. Nice cleaning up the sauce with the bread! Yum! We were a table of four and had an excellent meal. Service was fine and attentive, but didn't interfere with the conversations. In the event you don't know, Carlo's is BYOB. Would recommend dishes but since we eat there regularly, I can say you really can't make a poor choice. Everything is cooked to order.
Been dining at Carlo's Italian Bistro for about 5 years now, and always look forward to our next meal there. On our last visit my wife had Chicken Francais [sp] while I stayed basic with the most delicious spaghetti and meatballs. But then, over the delicious mussels and salads, we decided to share our main dishes so we each got to eat some of the two dishes we love. As I have said so many times before, Carlo's meals are consistently perfectly prepared. Ambience and service are very good...relax and enjoy.
The owner was very welcoming and politely friendly. The waitress was experienced and most helpful. The owner is from Naples so we knew we were getting good southern Italian food. The upstairs would be a fun place for a private party. There is a reasonable variety of selections. Also, at the entrance, is an area which could accommodate a group of twenty for a meeting.
We try to eat at Carlos every weekend. The food is always excellent and the service as well. The waitresses are knowledgeable and friendly. Whether we have pasta, veal, or seafood, It is always top quality. Carlo is always checking on the staff and the tables so you know everything is going to be perfect.
My husband and I dine here often because the food is so very good and the atmosphere is welcoming. On our last visit, I had the veal marsala. It is always delicious and the veal is very tender. My husband had the veal saltimbocca whih was also special. The tomatoe sauce for the pasta is fantastic. We always look forward to the fresh bread an house salad with their special dressing. It is our favorite restaurant!
We couldn't be more pleased with the fact that Carlo's Italian Bistro is virtually in our back yard. The food is always delicious, the warm hospitality of Carlo is outstanding and the service is impeccable.
We went with the Salmon and the Veal Marsala this time and both were absolutely scrumptious. And the bread...did you know Carlo makes his own which is without a doubt - THE BEST!
We are sold. Carlo's Italian Bistro is our favorite for sure. Thank you for making our evenings there such a pleasure.
Overall good experience. The veal we both had was tender and tasty. The only negative was the service which was slow but the waitress was as accommodating and pleasant as she could be....think they were not prepared for the crowd with enough wait staff. First really busy weekend after summer we were told.
We went to Carlo's on recommendation for food quality. The food was quite good. It was a Saturday evening and we were seated upstairs which was nice, however, our server was by herself and the kitchen was backed up. We waited at least an hour to get our entrees. The only suggestion I have would be for the server to check in with us to let us know that things are backed up before we had to flag her down. Experienced restaurants will offer a glass of wine or dessert for the inconvenience. No effort was made in that regard. I would say Carlo's is better for a week night rather than a weekend meal.
We’ve been going to Carlo’s since it opened and typically the food is wonderful. I was disappointed with my eggplant parmigiana. There was very little sauce, not a lot of cheese and it wasn’t baked as it used to be. It was just a few pieces of eggplant folded on the plate with a bit of sauce and cheese. Not much flavor to speak of. The salad was fine and my husband’s pasta with sausage was the usual good dish.
Another great meal with friends on a Friday evening. The restaurant was busy, but the service did not suffer. We started with the mussels that are served with a delicious sauce suitable for dipping your bread. Yummy!! Our entrees, shrimp fradiavola, chicken francese, and pork shanks Rodolfo. The house salad is always fresh and the dressing is light. BYOB also nice.
Carlo always makes his way through the dining area and stops at every table. Nice touch indeed!!! We eat here often.
Celebrating a friend's big birthday. She had never been here before and she really enjoyed it. Everything, including the birthday dessert was great. The check was wrong but Deb was not to be bothered...sat in the back and we couldn't get her attention. Just letting you know about the service.
Carlo's was a nice experience. We had not been before, hadn't even known it existed prior to a few weeks ago. In the strip mall at Church Ln and York Rd, kitty corner from IHOP, it looks nondescript from the outside, but is surprisingly nice inside. Look at the photos on their website, nicely done in wood paneling, with an upstairs loft or balcony overlooking the main dining space.
Our waitress was very nice and attentive, a pleasure. The menu is fairly typical of a mall Italian restaurant. Fairly extensive, but small enough to believe everything is made fresh, not microwaved frozen. We had a shrimp appetizer, which was ok. Our entrees were eggplant parmigiana and veal parmigiana. Both enjoyable, neither great. The bread was very good. Both entrees came with house salads and pasta, spaghetti with the eggplant, rigatoni with the veal- both ok.
Reviews on-line note BYOB. When we were there, there was alcohol on the menu (I believe), though we didn't order beer or wine.
This place won't blow your socks off, but at reasonable prices, in a convenient location and with a very nice ambience, it won't disappoint either. Comparing it to Vito's , a bit less upscale feel, but roughly equivalent, with a nice open feel compared to the smaller, intimate or tighter feel of Vito's. Significantly smaller than Fazzini's, but with a more interesting space.
It's nice to have 3 nice local Italian restaurants.
The food is excellent .The service very attentive.Even when you have a large party the wait time for your food is short. We have been coming to the different locations for many years .There is an appetizer (rolando) that is to die for.Get extra bread to be able to eat all the sauce. We call it love on a plate.
We dined at Carlo's June 17th for mu fiancé 65th birthday.....had not been in the building since it was the Tree House...what a change. Really like what the designer did w/ the interior. Kelly our waitress was 5 star, attentive but not overbearing, very knowledgeable & cheerful. The food was very good & the portions were more than we could finish....made great meal at home.....Highly recommend
My girlfriend and I remembered Carlo's as being a quiet place with a nice atmosphere and solid food from one other occasion early in our relationship. We decided that for our anniversary we would dress up in full dress attire. Long dress for her and a suit for me. Carlo's struck us as a nice relaxing place where we wouldn't be over dressed, and could enjoy our special day. It turned out to be exactly as remembered.
We got the calamari appetizer, a true test of the quality of restaurant seafood as it is easy to become chewy. It was light and delicious, and pulled flavors out of squid that I've never experienced.
My veal Parmesan reminded me of my childhood, like mom used to make, and her chicken Parmesan was so good she enjoyed the leftovers from the large portion for several days afterwards.
The waitress (when we asked) told us the back story of the restaurant, how it was family owned, and even took pictures of the two of us all dressed up.
At the end of the meal, we were too stuffed for dessert, but they brought us a little something because we had mentioned it was our anniversary. A plate with a dessert cannoli and "happy anniversary" written in chocolate in Itallian on it. Overall it absolutely delivered on the anniversary dinner experience we were looking for.
Someone told me they heard the place was loud due to the acoustics, and I can't speak for weekends, but on a weekday evening it is a nice quiet relaxing place to be. Highly recommended.
We eat here regularly. Food is delicious. On this particular Sunday evening, Carlo's was busier than usual but we are rarely in hurry when dining there. Patience and delicious food (as usual) did the trick for yet another wonderful Carlo's meal. if you are undecided, you really need to try the meatball appetizer.......but seriously, it's all wonderful. Enjoy.
