Carina Lounge Ratings and Reviews
We made a reservation for a party of 16 for a birthday. They allowed us to change it the day before to 20 people. They had everything ready when we arrived. The service was great. The food was great. The restaurant wasn't too busy, so it was nice that we could all kind of mingle around all the tables they put together for our large party. At one point they had us sit down so we could order, which was totally appropriate. They were very accommodating. I would definitely recommend. We used to go there when it was Bastas and this place didn't disappoint.
5 friends and I went to Carina Lounge this weekend for a late-night birthday dinner. We chose to wait until 9pm in order to take full advantage of their incredible happy hour prices. All appetizers were only $4.50! We ordered multiples of everything and devoured it all. The beef carpaccio and goat cheese ravioli were definitely crowd favorites. Fabulous ambiance and even better food! Highly recommend to anyone.
The food was really good and I like having the option of small plates versus a full meal. This building at one time was a Taco Bell, and unfortunately still kind of looks like one inside, including formica type tables, dark paneling, and cheap-looking chairs. On the other hand, having a parking lot on the premises is a huge plus. The service was good. The bathrooms are small, down a super dark hall with dark paint (like almost need a flashlight to find it). A couple coats of paint would upgrade the place immensely.
Sad to say, our group of four was disappointed in our meal at Carina Lounge. The decor and ambience was encouraging, even though sound level is a bit high with all the concrete. But when the food began arriving, the disappointment began. The lentils in the squid starter were undercooked and oily, the dressing on the Ceasar salads was goopy, the lasagna was dry and unappealing, and another pasta dish was buried in thick brown butter sauce. My sea bass with polenta and spinach was properly cooked but bland and unremarkable. Our server was fine, but several times, other servers delivered items to the wrong person at our table. With so many other restaurants to choose from, it's unlikely we'll go back.
Cozy and abuzz with happy diners, I'll definitely plan a trip back to Carina Lounge. Food was beautifully prepared from appetizers to the main courses. Portions are decent but not super-sized. Service was friendly, and the water glasses were never empty for long. The waitress brought a generous dish of ice cream after realizing that she had forgotten to bring a glass of wine that had been ordered. Off-street parking is a plus.
Food was fresh and unique. Small plates were priced very well. It gives you the opportunity to explore the menu without emptying your wallet. Cocktails were inventive and tasty. Love the ambiance of the old, Tasty Freeze. Service was very good as well. Give it a try. You'll come back!
Portland casual elegance at it's best! The owners of Lucy's Table and Basta have joined forces to create a neighborhood gem that's also well worth traveling for. Our party of 7 enjoyed a perfect al fresco meal in July for a special occasion. The Pink Lady cocktail was divine. Next time I want to try the Pisco Sour. The beer and wine lists are well chosen. The best dishes the night we were there were the grilled octopus, the Caprese salad and the spinach and ricotta gnocchi. Small plates make it a great spot for sharing. The service was warm and impeccable. We were treated like family! I'm recommending to all my Portland friends and will be back as often as I am in town.
My wife, friends, friends of friends and coworkers have all been to Carina many times. The food is outstanding and the waitstaff has been very friendly every time we've visited. Most recently we hosted our parents, their friends and our kids for an 8 person celebration dinner. All 3 generations much enjoyed our time.
The personnel and restaurant space were quite nice and the signature cocktail of the day was well paired to the hot summer day. There were very few vegetarian food options (which was a surprise since the restaurant was described as Mediterranean and, well, this is Portland after all). The kitchen did alter a few of their items to accommodate. In the end the food was good but it did all taste the same.
We then wanted to speak to the manager , who by the way was probably informed by the young lady that we were upset . Instead of coming over to our table and apologizing, he at first ignored us until we informed the young lady that we would like to have him stop by the table so we could talk to him.
He finally came over and apologized s

Love this place. One of the best burgers in town. Nice wine list, healthy pours and scrumptious cocktails. Not over-thought or driven by hype, yet has a great atmosphere and vibe. A refreshingly solid restaurant you can count on to consistently deliver pdx-worthy yum.
The food was tasty, but the service was very slow. It took forever to get drinks, the food was brought to us and left in front of us without utensils for much too long, while the server left to have a social chat with another table (knowing we needed utensils), and the restaurant was not busy or full. We did like the food though, so if the staff could be more attentive, we would give it higher marks.
this is the successor to Basta, which was one of our favorite restaurants. They have redesigned the inside somewhat, and it is improved, but it is still not very inviting -- dark, but not dark romantic, and rough hewn without the style being capitalized on. Nonetheless, it is relatively quiet and it certainly is clean, just not very upscale. My wife and I split a green salad, which was very sour, and i generally like a sour dressing, but this was extreme. I had the ragu, which was good tasting but the sauce was rather runny, and when I asked for bread to help with the sauce I was charged $3.50 for bread. My wife had the mussels, which she thought were wonderful, and she has a lot of mussels. The service was impeccable, very attentive and knowledgeable. The prices are reasonable, so it is a good value.
Came out for a date with my husband - the first in awhile after having twins. We wanted to try someplace new but have been a little out of the restaurant scene for the last year. This place was such a good find all around. The food was super yummy (we did a bunch of small plates) and priced really well. The cocktails were delicious. The music was fantastic and the ambiance was super chill. Great for a date where you can have conversation (not too loud to talk) but not so quiet it's awkward. We'll definitely be back! 👍
