Best True French Bistro in town!
Always enjoy the place for its atmosphere, a taste of Paris in Philadelphia!
Friendly, comfortable atmosphere; succeeded in creating the feel of a French bistro. Given the more limited menu of Restaurant Week, the food was successful with good flavors and manageable portions. There was a plentiful selection of wines by the glass. Service was cheerful and helpful without being intrusive. We will likely return.
A Most Enjoyable Meal: Food was Fab, Service was Friendly, Price was reasonable.
Both my husband and I could not eat our meals. My fish (escolar) was frozen although I was told it was fresh and it was way under cooked and drowning in a buerre blanc sauce that was more cheap oil than butter. My green beans were way overcooked and mushy. My husband's beef was tough, the noodles under cooked and the presentation not pleasant. We have been to this restaurant before and had a pretty decent meal, but this meal was atrocious.
Wonderful service from Matthew and the rest of the servers! Would definitely go again!
3 of us went on Sunday during restaurant week. Service and food were excellent.
Excellent food and drink. Went for restaurant week. Found the staff friendly and accommodating. Did have to ask them to slow down our service though so we could enjoy each course slowly. They did that and we had a great time. We definitely will go back for their regular menu.
Food was excellent.
We had such a great meal for restaurant week. They really should have coq au vin on the regular menu, at least on weekend nights. So delicious! There wasn't a bad dessert choice either! The whole night was a such a pleasure between the service and the food prep!
Everything was great. I will be back for happy hour and dinner. The chicken and tuna was a tad dry though.
My husband and I , along with our friends, had dinner during restaurant week. The food was delicious and the service was great.
Food was good and restaurant is very convenient as it is close to Walnut Street Theatre.
The food was excellent. My girlfriend is gluten intolerant and the options for her were great. Much appreciated!
My favorite go to place when I want to remember the Paris bistrot ambiance.
Incredible food, friendly and efficient staff. A perfect restaurant before or after the theater.
I am a Center City resident and Caribou Café is one of my very favorites. The staff always remembers me and treats me wonderfully. I highly recommend it for a nice dining experience.
Wonderful meal and service!
Absolutely feels like you are in a Parisian bistro. Varied menu from big to small plates and a variety of price ranges. The wait staff was skilled and professional. A wonderful meal and experience!
Totally bleh. We went there the day after Christmas- looking forward to a French bistro experience. The energy was a downer. Very empty (only 2 or 3 other tables with customers) and the people working there were completely disengaged. We tried to give it a chance. We sat down at our table, checked out the menu, and tried talking to our waiter. Not sure how he got hired to work there. To describe him as unenthusiastic would be a huge understatement. Aside from the lack of personality, his fingernails were long and dirty. Embarrassed, we left the restaurant as quietly and graciously as possible, and gave our server $10 for his time. From there where went to Parc.... so glad we did! Parc was fabulous!!!
My wife, daughter, and I decided to go to the Caribou Cafe - our favorite restaurant in Philadelphia - for Christmas Eve dinner, and it was as wonderful as we expected it to be: Great food, fantastic atmosphere, and the absolute best staff !! Can’t wait to go back again :)
We were there late enough that the upstairs wasn't too crowded, and that worked in our favor. Wait staff were very attentive, and the noise level was not bad, so we were able to enjoy conversation easily. Cocktails were great, food was great. Fish of the day with capers and potatoes was tasty and nicely done, and my husband enjoyed his favorites from Alsace Lorraine - Choucroute pork and a Kronenburg. Fabulous desserts and coffee. I had been looking forward to doing the prixe fixe, but nothing on that menu enticed me. Got things a la carte and everything was great.
The food was very good and the atmosphere was very "bistro/cafe". My wife and I had the fish special which was a salmon in a creme sauce- delicious. My daughter had the steak frites and seemed to enjoy it as well. We shared a Chocolate Mouse for desert and it was excellent.
It had been a long time since we ate at the Caribou and we really enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and attentive. We really enjoyed our meals and drinks. Will definitely not wait so long in between visits next time.
Food and service were excellent! Seating was somewhat tight and too close for noise levels to be acceptable.
With so many good restaurants in Philly, this one just didn't attack up well. Hadn't eaten there in a while, and probably won't go back. Waiters were friendly, but not as attentive as i would like (no one checked back to see if i wanted more coffee, for example), and the food was mediocre.
Food and ambiance were terrific. Service was very slow. We had to track down our server several times. By the time she came to take our order, she advised three out of five of us that we should not order what we wanted since there would not be enough time to prepare those dishes given that we were there for a pre-theater dinner. This was disappointing. Although, as I stated first, once we received our meals they were delicious. There was no time for dessert or coffee with the delay in taking our order.
I love the atmosphere, and for the most part I love the food. Unfortunately the service was lacking. Our waitress was very sweet, but somehow our steak frites was given to another table and we waited forever to get our meals....like an hour. One would think we would have gotten comped something....or some kind of break on our check. Nope! Very strange. Love it there, but perhaps I will stick with the bar for drinks and skip the food.
We always enjoy Caribou Cafe. The menu is very good. Our waiter, Walter, was outstanding. We will definitely be back.
Our waiter Matthew was awesome, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. I highly recommend!
The waitress got the order wrong of one of my friends and then forgot one order until we mentioned it to her. Overall though they did make us laugh with the disorganization that night. We would give them a try again.
Caribou Cafe is one of our favorite place pre-theater, meeting a friend for lunch, grabbing a well-made drink late afternoon. We can always count on it.
Very nice Happy Hour drink prices, including a pleasant, generous pour red wine. Scallops were cooked perfectly and the waitress and kitchen accommodated my lactose intolerance graciously.
Tart tartan was unusual, a whole small apple on delicate pastry. It was delicious!
Enjoyed the food. Baked mussels appetizer was delicious. Our server was also very attentive. Will definitely return.
We needed a restaurant near the Forrest Theater and Caribou Cafe was perfect.
Service was terrible. Waiter 1/2 hour for my dessert and the other courses weren’t much better. Apple tart then had cold middle. Also, was not made aware I was being charged each time I asked for another Diet Coke. Bush league!
It's probably due to everyone going from Caribou Cafe to Hamilton but they were so busy that our server/waitstaff person was difficult to get a hold of after the appetizers came. I'd still go back and recommend to others because overall the food was great.
After carefully my husband carefully explained that he is lactose intolerant, he ordered grilled salmon with sauce on the side. His salmon arrived drenched in a creamy sauce. When it was eventually replaced, it was a dry, sorry piece of fish for which we paid $25. Then we were charged for both salmon dishes. When we pointed this out, the bill was redone, but the waiter/manager forgot to return our credit card. As do not live in Philadelphia, we have had to cancel our card. A very disappointing outing.
The Caribou Cafe was recommended by a friend for a pre theatre dinner spot! What a great place! The food was amazing, and the entire experience was delightful! I will definitely return!
Loved the pumpkin soup, and shrimp and avocado app along with onion soup. Also crepe for dessert and good cappuccino.
Food and service was above average
