Caribou Café Cheesesteak
Brie and caramelized onions - Salad or fries
We ordered the cheesesteak and a scallop dish. The butter provided with the bread was complex, with a cultured cheesy note that we loved. It was unsalted but they added rock salt to it, which was a nice touch.
I was hoping that the cheesesteak would have juicy, high-quality cuts on a fresh-baked crusty baguette with moist grilled onions and gooey brie. Instead, the beef was dry, the baguette texture was mediocre, and the onions and brie were insufficient in quantity relative to the beef. And the side of ketchup really didn't match. Perhaps something closer to what is offered in a French dip would have been better-suited.
The scallops were so over-salted and rubbery that we sent them back--the first time my partner had ever sent a plate back. When we received the second attempt, the scallops at least weren't rubbery, but they were still over-salted.
It's possible that we just came on a bad day. But we probably won't return.
Easy to make a reservation through Open Table. Arrived a little early for lunch. The food was great. Had an interesting conversation with a patron at another table who had ordered absinthe
Just so many bad vibes in the place. Left before eating. Sorry about the reservation.
Lovely decor and delicious French lunch. My roasted red pepper & corn soup was superb. I remembered this cafe from visits to Philly a decade ago. It is just as wonderful today.
The food and service were excellent. It was our first time dining there and we will definitely return. We went for Sunday brunch and the food was delicious. I highly recommend the escargot in puff pastry and pork chop and steak frites.
We visit Caribou Cafe every few months because we always have great food and superb service. It's a true French bistro in Center City.
The food was cooked very well. The waitress was also very polite. At one point, I didn’t like the wine I had ordered and she immediately switched it out with no fuss or questions asked.
I will certainly come back, and definitely recommend it to anyone looking for French cuisine, and good ambiance.
Great service and wonderful authentic French food. We will definitely be back. Eleanor, our server was excellent
Had a great dinner to kick off senior year at Temple University for my girls. Everything was delicious!
The Caribou cafe is like stepping into Paris. Whenever I have had to cancel or postpone a trip to Paris I can always rely on the Caribou Cafe to lift my spirits with the wonderful ambiance and fulfill my desire for fabulous French cuisine. The salads, soups, appetizers, entrees and desserts are wonderful! Among my favorites for starters are the escargot in pastry puff and wonderful sauce. The octopus is fabulous as is the Caesar salad. As a lunch entree I love the seafood crepe or a thick slice of quiche. Every item on the menu is fabulous. Compliment with champagne Kier Royals and I am in the Paris of Philadelphia.
Also great for Paris-like people watching at the outside tables or just within the glass walls in front!
The restaurant was very nearly empty with a few people at the bar and several outside tables full. If it wasn't for this meal we wouldn't have known we didn't like mackeral. The prep and accompaniment were so good we did finish the dish. The steak was perfectly prepared but was a little mor gristly than I had had just recently at a different bistro. The light cheesecake was anything but light but it was excellent. The profiteroles were as good as I make at home which is high praise. It's hard to get the choo pastry right. Before going again I would find out the fish du jour.
Chimay on tap was a nice touch that brought back memories but it was served way to warm. It is a real problem when I leave half a glass of Chimay.
Caribou Cafe servers were friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable, and hilarious! They made my fiancé’s birthday very memorable! Wine pairing was fantastic, the bill was much more reasonable than expected (we went all out for the occasion. see: wine, apps, personal deserts and cocktails). On top of all that, the food was prompt and fantastic. Will definitely be coming back!
Onion soup too salty! Had good taste.
Quiche was delicious, perfect crust!
Seafood crepe was tasty but too much sauce. The salads were fresh even though not much in them (but greens).
Profiteroles were very fresh and yummy.
Had lunch with a dear friend we’ve not seen since pre-pandemic. Arrived at opening 11:30. Arielle was our server who was absolutely charming and knowledgeable. We had a lovely lunch and look forward to returning. I had Bellevue shrimp and avacado. My husband had the soup of the day which was a beautiful cold pea with mint and honey Creme fraiche. Then he had a gorgeous hamburger done perfectly rare. Our friend ordered a frise salad minus the bacon. Looked fabulous.
I’ve had dinner here as well although it was long ago but remember that it was a lovely place with food done extremely well. Lots of interesting things on the menu. Definitely a place to return to .
The food was excellent and the service was great and very attentive.
Excellent meal, great drinks, attentive and helpful staff. Thank you!
We went to this restaurant to celebrate my wife's birthday. We were disappointed with the homemade Pate, was mediocre. Our entrees were not seasoned well and were bland. Our cocktails were unremarkable. You truly get what you pay for. We will not be returning.
Good value, I recommend going if you are looking for more of a bar scene.
Always good food and a nice atmosphere. A great place in mid-city
Food and service were amazing!
Great atmosphere. Very attentive server. Delicious cocktails and brunch fare. Will definitely be coming back
It was just ok. There was something wrong with my iced tea, it tasted like an ashtray , so had to get replaced. The cheese plate was excellent. The meals Scalllops and the salmon were just ok and the dessert was good. Chocolate mousse and the Apple tart. We sat inside but the street noise was still loud with cars and buses
The waiter was funny and professional and the bartender was knowledgeable and great!
Food was great. Service and ambience excellent. Totally enjoyed it!
Food was ok- not great- and the “Frittes” (French fries) ordered with the mussels came out wrong and then took too long to come out right. Fish was “meh”. I doubt we will go back. There is a price fixe menu but we ordered a la carte. The salad appetizer was good. There are too many better restaurants in Philly.
Delicious food. Delicious drinks. Our waitress and bartender were just amazing.
This is my favorite restaurant in the world! (I've been to Paris and London and Caracas...) The salads are divine, the French Onion Soup is delicious and the variety on the menu is outstanding!
Waitress was excellent but bartender was arguing with another staff in front of us and it was unpleasant to witness. It put a huge damper on our meal. The lady who waited on us was excellent though but I will not go back.
This restaurant never fails to impress and is a fantastic date spot. Service was fantastic, and I felt very attended too. Been going here for years and still love it!!
Spent time with friends at lunch at Caribou this week. Food and service was excellent and the atmosphere was terrific. Highly recommend this place.
Nice French bistro environment. Service weak. Food good.
My new favorite spot! Delicious food, great atmosphere, and amazing service. Easily one of my favorite dining spots in the city.
Great service. Solid bistro menu, food cooked to perfection. Love the vibe.
Caribou Cafe is always good for dinner, and this was my first time there for brunch. The brunch menu is not extensive, although good, and the lunch menu was also available. The food and service were excellent! I had the lightest, fluffiest quiche ever!
The french dishes were delicious! I had the escargots and the omelet.
the ambiance was very nice for a brunch weekend date and the servers were amiable.
My only critic would be that I wish they had more beverages options (latte, ice chai latte, etc., )
The Caribou Cafe is like a Parisian neighborhood cafe but stuck in the middle of non-residential Jefferson Hospital part of Center City -- and it's been a reliable go-to place for me for years and years. Really good food and service in an authentic atmosphere. More relaxed than the Disney version of a Parisian Cafe known as Parc (which is also a great place; don't get me wrong). The service is also Parisian in at least one way: you may have to ask for the check.
Caribou Café is one of my favorite restaurants in Philadelphia. The food is simple and delicious. The service is excellent, attentive and never pushy. The restaurant itself is a lovely place with bistro/art nouveau influences.
Everything was great-the service, the food, the drinks! Thanks!
Excellent food and service. Interior could use a little fleshing up, but otherwise a wonderful experience
Julien, our server, couldn't have been better. Great service, friendly, polite. Perfect evening.
Inside or outside this is a great place. Service and food were outstanding.
