Quiche du Jour
Always a favorite when I am in Philadelphia. Lunch is very relaxed, they have great lunch deals, and food is always tops.
Went for restaurant week with some friends. Mediocre food at best.
The provencal dip was hardly an appetizer. The waiter who brought it out described it as a palate cleanser which it 100% was not. It was 1) served before all other courses and 2) had a strong pesto/anchovie taste. It was fine flavor-wise, but served with a spoon and single tiny parmsean twist. It definitely needs something to be spread on.
I had the escargot which was actually pretty good and the only reason there are 2 stars instead of 1. Everybody else got the goat cheese and beet salad. The fig dressing was actually quite delicious, but it looked they took canned sliced beets and lazily slapped one on the plate.
We all ordered the steak frites. Fries were obviously frozen, undercooked, and had zero truffle flavor. The steak was tough and undercooked (I ordered mid-rare and it was barely rare). The sauce was quite yummy, but I could make a better steak at home.
Souffle - NOT A SOUFFLE. This was the only reason that I picked this restaurant and it's just a lava cake. Is it good? Sure. However, there's no sauce or ice cream to cut the richness and the "salted caramel sauce" is just a dollup from within the cake itself.
Green mountain martini - tastes like the color green. Not in a bad way, but it's different. Very very cucumbery and strong, didn't taste any elderflower. Wasn't worth $13.50.
Overall a disappointment. I could have made a better 3-4 course meal at home for less than what we paid. The service was okay, but the waitress seemed burnt out/over it and was difficult to flag down when we needed her. The bus boy was more attentive. It is NOT worth it to dine her for dinner, even for restaurant week. Their normal 3 course dinner is $42, so they just tacked on the fish dip (i.e. "palate cleanser") and took off $2. Would not recommend. Go to Bistrot La Minette if you want French food.
They remember you when you come back, The Malbec was well chosen. And, they are full of personality while you order and wait for your date. The food was described by one member of the party as "the best food she had ever eaten." And, She is not skinny!
Service and food was wonderful. Definitely would go back for another meal or even a happy hour.
I haven't been in here in years. The decor and ambiance are still as charming as I remembered, reminding me of a Parisienne cafe. The service was very good, taking care of our every need. The food was tasty, although the portions could've been just a tad bigger (I know it's a French cafe, but the portions were a bit skimpy). The part that bothered me most was that there was a fee to use our credit card. I realize merchants get charged a fee and pass it along, but it should be reflected in the menu price. If you want to incentives people to use cash, give people a discount. Most people use credit cards, so it just seems punitive.
The food was just okay but the duck was really good
Traditional French dishes served here, but overall the quality is not exceptional. The steak frites was a paltry serving with fries that were pale. The soufflé dessert was actually a molten cake. Duck l’orange was tasty with crispy skin.
The service was excellent, but unfortunately the food did not stand up to the service.
Only issue was that one of us ordered a beet salad that did not appear to have any beets in it. when we asked about that, the servers said she would schck , but did not return with an answer.
The food here is top notch, the restaurant has a great ambiance, very friendly staff
We visited during Restaurant week and it was fabulous and a great value
Everything was very good on New Year’s Eve. The lamb cassoulet was outstanding as was the pappardelle.the cream puffs were not that great but the chocolate cake was excellent
Service was impeccable and the ambiance is perfect. It definitely captures the rakish elegance of a Parisian cafe. The beef bourguignon and the porcini pappardelle from the pre-fixe NYE menu were decadent and well-executed and the bartender was very talented (but working with a limited menu of specials). Will definitely visit again!
The food was outstanding and we loved the atmosphere, but the service was fumbling and clueless. I ordered a stew which was served without a spoon (I ate as much as I could with a fork) and the server never checked back in to see if there was anything we needed. When she was clearing everything away and asked how everything was I mentioned that a spoon would have been helpful, she tried to blame me and said I should have asked. 1. It seemed obvious to me that a spoon was needed and 2. She never stopped by our table. Blaming me for the oversight added insult to injury and made the entire experience a bit sour. We’ve dined here many times before and it’s always been a good experience. Maybe some recent hires need some retraining.
Outstanding Center City lunch service - their price fixe lunch service never disappoints and is always delicious. The servers and bar tenders are attentive and quick. The overall ambiance is delightful and never too loud. Crowds vary during the week and I highly recommend reservations.
Had a really wonderful lunch with family. We ordered wine, entrees, desserts. All delicious, including the stuffed pork chop special and steak frite, crepes and a burger. Good value.
Excellent!! Our third time. We’ll be back.
If you have anything here you have to get the parisian onion soup! It was fantastic. Service was all around awesome, there was always someone coming by to get empty dishes out of the way. Great laid back atmosphere
Everything was good. The appetizers were very good, the main courses were fine, the desserts were tasty. The wine list is short, but the selections are good. Service generally was excellent. It was what we expect from Caribou Cafe.
Caribou Cafe is a fun place with outstanding French influenced food and friendly efficient service. The Lamb Shank cassoulet is outstanding. Totally recommend this place for lunch, dinner or just a cheese plate at the bar. Thank you!
Our last two meals here have been delicious. Ample portions and excellent service. The ambiance is definitely “Paris Bistro” and lovely. It usually NOT a noisy place, but the people in booth behind us were very loud.
Will go back.
Great food !
Service was natural and pleasant; food was nicely presented, presented and tasted very good. Overall nice evening meal
Fantastic food and service at Caribou when we had dinner on December 18th!
Delicious food and drinks and love the decor. Feels like a French cafe.
Very nice, food was excellent, would go back again for the onion soup and the brioche pudding!
We had the loveliest lunch with an old friend at Caribou, an old favorite. Everything was delicious, from soup to cocktails.
Cordial and welcoming staff, good food and excellent, prompt service. Worked well for dinner with a relatively short amount of time before an event.
I dined with a friend before attending a performance in the area. Our server was excellent and made excellent recommendations to my friend who was thrilled with her choices. Chocolate mousse was a generous portion that we shared.
Grabbed brunch before an afternoon show at Walnut Theatre. The service was attentive and food was delicious. Would come back!
We were barred from entry due to a last second rule requiring vaccination cards- which we do not carry on us like our licenses, to avoid losing them. Had we been notified of this policy at any point in advance by the restaurant, we could have brought them with us. Instead we showed up for our anniversary dinner (a surprise for my fiancé) were turned away at the door by a server who shrugged at our distress and would not even offer to seat us outside. This is our favorite restaurant, and a restaurant very special to us, and this experience was both out of the norm and emotionally distressing.
I hadn’t been here in years and was delighted! The trout special was superb and our server was pleasant, efficient and helpful. I’m sorry I waited so long to return
Excellent service, very pleasant ambience. Food lives up to the French bistro traditions, that is, very flavorful and rich dishes using fresh ingredients.
Nice ambiance and good food. A good place for a pre-theater meal.
Excellent French bistro style food in a friendly setting.
While on a date I Tried Caribou for the first time and we were pleased. We both enjoyed the onion soup immensely. The Caesar salad was very bland and had almost no flavor. Double stuffed pork chop was delicious as was the truffle mushroom pasta. Our servers were very helpful and attentive. Prices were fair. Would definitely go back.
Great food. Unfortunately I can’t really give a rating on the decibel level because it wasn’t very crowded as many restaurants are not during the pandemic
I haven’t been to the Caribou Cafe in a few yesterdays, and was pleasantly surprised to find the sand great food and experience.
