   Had dinner tonight at one of my favorite absolute favorite Philadelphia restaurants called Caribou. Discovered this place about 11 or 12 years ago and have been returning almost every year since. Tonight I had, as I always do, their fabulous onion soup, and a surprise to me Lamb burger, I didn't know they did that. A super green salad, with lots of arugula, and a special dressing made from shallots and mustard thought you would never know it, really loved it. All this good food was enjoyed with a Hoegarden Belgian beer (so nice to have something that is not choked with overly bitter hops as is so popular these days )and a French Syrah. Of course what do you finish off a French Bistro dinner but with an espresso.

   They were obviously understaffed but the food was good and they have a bar and serve drinks which is not usual in Philadelphia. Our dinner was very nice and the prices were good.

   Overall good experience. The vibe was a bit dated upstairs. Our server Eleanor was excellent and timely. The pork cassoulet was a solid item. The Peasant Board was dull, unoriginal with meats sliced too thick to eat. Bread pudding dessert was yummy. Overall price/experience was good but not enough to warrant multiple repeat visits.

   Service was ok, staff felt like they were new. Maybe training. Like the runner had a hard time putting the charcuterie board down on the table. But they were pleasant overall. The food. Man. No. This is my second time here in the last year or so and it’s just lost it’s appeal. The best thing we ate was the chicken atop the Caesar salad. The salad itself was boring and the dressing was very bland. The cheese and meat board was dry like it has been sitting prepared from the morning. It was just so basic and would’ve been better had I gone to Trader Joe’s myself and cut up some meat and cheese. The duck liver mouse was so dry that the top layer was a deep grey and when you spooned in then you saw the rich red color. And it was ok- not great. I would skip this place. For a French bistro there are better choices in town. No wonder there were so many time slots available with the flower show in town. You’d expect a place to be slammed for lunch. Non, merci.

    We have been to this restaurant at least times as we enjoyed it's convenience for after concert dinner. This last visit was less than expected. It seems like the rest. is becoming a school for other chefs to "try out" their style, while this can work but not on such a rotating basis. As a customer I don't want to be surprised each visit as to what is on the menu, I would prefer a steady menu with some special dishes with a theme. Also some portions seem really off, i.e. I ordered a salad of turnip, arugla, and pomegranate pearls but what I got was a HUGH bowl of greens (like hole bag) with some turnip (which was supposedly the star of the salad) and the pome pearls which sank to the bottom of the bowl. Also there needs to be a rethinking on the concept of the Pre-theater menu. When we first started to come to this rest. the prefe menu was one price for 3 choices, now it is billed as prefe, with prices for items that are on the main menu at the same price. It does not mean anything if you are not giving customers a "break" or add different items. Now in order to get a fixed price you have to go through "hoops". Just drop the pretense. It's an insult to the customer.

    Met a friend here for brunch. He got the French toast Melba and I got eggs Benedict (with salmon) for the first time. It was all delicious. The initial service was great but then they ran out of coffee and I had finished most of my meal without ever getting more. We had to keep asking and they said they were brewing more but honestly, it was not a full house, we had reservations for the minute they opened, and there was no reason for no coffee. Everyone was very nice and the food was delicious. Coffee was also VERY weak.

    This was the third time my wife and I dined at Caribou before a theater show. We like the food very much. Her escargot and my onion soup were great, especially after a longish walk on a cold night. But it was almost 50 minutes after we were seated that we got them; it was almost 30 minutes before we even got water. We had to remind our server that we were to get bread after our main course arrived, and also that we had ordered drinks. Service was good during the last 20 minutes of our visit, and the chocolate mousse and the discount on the bill ended the visit sweetly. But the original delay was a frustrating beginning.

    Caribou Cafe is definitely one of our go to restaurants. Great for before or after theatre dining. Be sure to get a reservation, they are not shy about turning away those who do not have one. Highly recommend the onion soup, but if you are a snail fan the escargot in puff pastry is a must. Dine before six pm and you will get the drink specials, a value. All of the entrees that I have tried are wonderful, but caution, they are all very rich, in the French tradition, with lots of butter. If you are a pate lover Caribou makes their own. All of the desserts are very good; I have tried them all. Side note, my wife always orders one of their biscotti to go for her breakfast next morning, yes they are that good! Bon appetit.

    My lunch partner was extremely late but the wait staff were lovely and generous to me, telling me not to worry about sitting alone in a booth for almost an hour. The waitress came by more than once to chat with me and repeat that I was welcome to stay as long as I wanted.

    Went on Valentines Day. No mention in their website they only one menu was being offered. Food was good, not great. Service and Ambiance were also good, not great. Price was higher than the value received. Would visit again, but not for any special ocassion

    This was our first time at the Caribou Cafe, but it will not be our last. The food was wonderful, and our server was more than wonderful. She was helpful and accommodating, and made us feel very comfortable about asking questions. I wish I knew her name...

    Unfortunately I had truly bad experience. This was my second time celebrating my birthday here and this time it was surprisingly unwelcoming. I made a reservation for celebrating and yet I had to wait more than 30 minutes. All while being told “it’ll be a minute “ instead of setting realistic expectations. The telling was done by waiters as there was no host and they were doing disservice. This is in a stark contrast to the last celebration I had at this cafe in 2022.

    I have enjoyed my meals at Caribou Café for many years. I usually go for lunch before a show or concert and have the quiche. I think their quiche is one of the very best in town. Consistently good, creamy and tasty.

    Nice prix fixe menu options for pre-theater! Truly appreciated our waiter. Could tell he was overworked (I’ve been in a similar job myself) but he was careful and efficient with our orders. I hope he is paid better than the norm for Philadelphia-good staff should be rewarded by employers!!

    We went to Caribou for lunch before a show at the Walnut Street Theatre. We had a lovely booth downstairs, our server was friendly and efficient. The cosmos were delicious and the Country Crepe was so good - light but filling!!

    Disappointed in my entree - eggs benedict w/Salmon. Somewhat overcooked. The bread used was rock hard; only one egg on top (it was divided into to halves). Seems like it sat for awhile before being brought to my table. I've been at Caribou several times so this was a bit surprising. The quality of the entrees have always been top notch. Service was fine. They were very busy as there was a major broadway show at the theater next to the restaurant so it looks like a lot of pre-theater dining was occuring.

    We visited Caribou during Restaurant Week and we chose the prix fixe menu. My endive salad with apple walnut vinaigrette was excellent with just the right amount of crunch and flavor. Our server recommended the chicken breast and it too was a winner. . The meat was moist and it was accompanied by a white bean pesto cassoulet sauce. Dessert was nougat glacé with fig raspberry sauce. I had a glass of rose with dinner. It was an excellent dining experience. Our server was great and the seating was quiet enough for easy conversation.

    We dined during restaurant week. To my mind any manager or owner would want to provide absolutely their best effort. We had to ask for bread. What is more “French” than some baguette to clear your palate between courses? The puff pastry was too thick and heavy. The sauces mediocre.
