Cardinale Ratings and Reviews
This was my third visit to Cardinale, but the first for dinner. The ambiance is fantastic and the convenience speaks for itself if you are attending an event at Stampede Park or the Scotiabank Saddledome. The food was delicious, but I cannot get past the value question. Having visited Italy three times in the last two years, Cardinale is failing on "authentic" by charging $6 for bread. Every restaurant in Italy makes bread an essential - and included - part of the meal. At $24 for every pasta, it is definitely at the top end. While I can understand the price point for the linguine with seafood which two of my dining companions enjoyed, my noodles with tomato sauce did not warrant this level. It left me asking if the one-price-for-all concept was just for the convenience of the staff.
Overall the evening was great. Had some drunks to start and a bottle of wine with dinner. Started with a sampling of 3 starters and shared 2 pasta dishes before dessert. Service was great. Could be the best I've seen in a couple years in Calgary. Worth taking a Chance, you won't be disappointed
Had a business meal here and the ingredients of the food had potential but it didn't come out hot and didn't seem fresh. It tasted bland and as if they had pre-made it the day before and slapped it together. My colleague and I were left disappointed and the restaurant offered to remove one dish off of our bill after we paid. It was awkward and we didn't accept the refund as they said for us to come back another time and have a meal on them which is super sweet but why would we come back even if free? They used to have great food here and now I am not sure I want to go back.
Can't say enough good things about the attention to detail /service at cardinale. I was planning a suprise birthday dinner for the wife, and Graham and his team went above and beyond to accommodate the 18 person group. I had to make adjustments to the reservation, and the team was helpful every time (calling me back to verify/clarify/confirm). The service for the large group was top notch, wait time for food was minimal and well timed. They will serve and cut cakes for a fee, but the service accompanied with the fee is well worth it. Would absolutely come back.
This was my third visit to Cardinale. The food has always been delicious but the other variables have had me questioning my return. My first visit was amazing, everything was great. On my second visit I had terrible service and witnessed the same server being very rude to the group next to me. Had the food not been so good, I may not have returned. On my third visit the food was great, the waitstaff was helpful and attentive. We were there for a birthday, so stayed around a while post meal to open presents and chat. It was not until when I got home later that I realized that our server took our leftovers to be packed up and never returned with them. I purposely saved half a meal for the next days' lunch, so it was quite disappointing to realize that food went to waste. I am up in the air as to whether or not I will give Cardinale another chance.
Food was underwhelming. Pasta was overcooked, and the wrong type of sauce for a seafood pasta. Salad read differently on menu then what was served and server claimed it was guests not understanding Italian that led to confusion rather the fact that there was very little cauliflower and hazelnuts in salad as advertised. Service was slow. Overall not bad but I wouldn't go back.
We came in just after a rush so they were in recovery mode on the 31st. Took a bit to get drinks but when things got settled it was great. Food was great, specialty drinks were great and the service was great after that! Had a very nice time. Would totally recommend to friends and family.
First off, the service is exceptional. I emailed a couple of questions before hand as it was New Year’s Eve and i wanted to know if they do a set menu. I was happy to find out that they were offering their regular menu as it is a pet peeve of mine to be forced to order from a set menu. I was responded to in a very prompt and friendly manner. We were welcomed right away when we walked in and our server was amazing. Super friendly and attentive but not in an annoying way. The vibe was super energetic and a bit loud, but nothing over the top. The one thing I don’t like about the space is that you can feel the draft from outside every time the door opens (it was -30.) Not exactly sure what they are supposed to do about this though. I was definitely impressed with their wine list. The one we chose was amazing. The food was good, but slightly underwhelming. I love Italian food and I think they do a good job but for the price, I was not overly impressed if I am being honest. I would try it again though and I would maybe try it for lunch. Based on other reviews though, it may just be my opinion.
The food was delicious and the pricing was reasonable given the good quality of the food however my issues were these:
1. SUB-ARCTIC TEMPERATURES INSIDE the restaurant. I realize it was -25 on the night we went out for dinner and our waitress explained to us that the "owner of the building sets the temperature and we are fighting with him to get it turned up" however this is NO EXCUSE to have a freezing dining room. Invest in a couple of space heaters and crank the temperature before service begins to ensure your guests are warm and don't have to sit huddled up in their parkas and scarves (which is what we did). The cold temperatures completely over took the whole experience and rather than focusing how good the food was, all I can remember is how frigid the restaurant was inside.
2. TOO MANY TABLES TOO CLOSE TOGETHER - there should have been one less 2 top table in the middle of the room. There was barely enough room to pass between tables and my husband could not hear us speaking as he had 3 tables right behind him which were so close their volume overwhelmed our conversations.
Perhaps we were trying to cram everyone into the front room to keep it warm???
Food is awesome, service not much, even if the food is perfect, service needs to find the spot between being “family” friendly and overreaching. They kind of treat you like you have to cope with them, like you are lucky of being there, and believe me the food is not that good. Time to learn
Restaurant was crowded. Waiter more interested in serving the large table than a table for two. Had linguini with seafood, and he didn’t bring a bowl or plate to put shells, had to put on table. Ordered bread and it came after the meal (although they did take it off the bill). Food was lukewarm and had sat too long under the heating lamp. Overall disappointing meal and service.
Went for a lunch on a Friday. Beautiful but small inside, a patio opens in the summer I presume.
Ordered a couple drinks, which were both interesting and tasty.
The food was good overall, I had the brisket meatball sandwich which was good but a bit under seasoned. My friend ordered the deli sandwich and enjoyed.
Would go back.
