Incredible tasting menu. Very intimate abs personal experience. Chef is outstanding and the service was incredible. I highly recommend for a special occasion or just to treat yourself !
We hadn't been to the restaurant at the Chanler in years, and it has completely transformed for the better since it has become Cara. The food was excellent: of particular interest was the Alfonsino fish course and the oak grilled wagyu heart of rib eye. Both these dishes were outstanding enough to be appreciated at any restaurant in the world. The new chef has clearly taken this restaurant to a new much higher level of food quality and he appears prepared to have Cara compete to be the best restaurant in Newport.
It was our one year wedding anniversary and it was an amazing tasting experience. Highly recommend for a special occasion.
Our trip to Newport was a great chance to visit The Chanler hotel and its upscale restaurant Cara. They have two seatings, with the earlier one 5 courses, which was plenty food for us. My spouse chose the wine pairing and the server gladly switched out a wine when he agreed he wasn’t fond of the choice either. The chef uses clever choices of veggies and herbs to highlight the courses. He even caught our fish course himself.
Service was wonderful but it was a small venue due to COVID but it gave us a chance to talk to our neighboring diners.
I’d definitely go back but it’s also definitely not a budget meal.
A blind 8 course menu with a hefty price and we were served chicken that sounded great but was mediocre. Great idea with charcoal sear on the carpaccio, but only one dot of carmelization. The oysters were delicious. The wait staff good. We were hoping for a fun experience, but it came up short.
The corkage fee was more than the French Laundry, and the wine list didn’t support it!
We ate here last year at the height of the pandemic and had a mediocre meal and gave it a second chance this time. Not so sure we would do it again.
The tasting menu was exquisite! Every course was magical.
It is a dinner for real gourmands who enjoys unusual combinations of food, prepared in unusual way. Food was very delicious and served beautifully, definitely for sophisticated people who fond of different experiences and admires rich flavors and unusual combination. The restaurant is very classy and beautiful, no details spared and the view is absolutely wonderful. Very special place for a special dinner
Food is exceptional, just hoped for a little more food.
An amazing birthday dinner!
Service was impeccable from beginning to end. We could not have had a better evening. Everything was just perfect. Thank you!!
Amazing! Every that was phenomenal.
This was an amazing experience!! Would definitely recommend it for a special occasion
Every single thing about this experience was magical!
8 course tasting menu. It was an amazing experience
Food was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was outstanding. Decent cocktails. Had a great time and would definitely recommend it.
5 course fixed price blind tasting with wine pairing was awesome. Well done.
Had our Anniversary Dinner there and it was tremendous. We had the 5 course dinner and wine pairing and every detail was handled. The Sous Chef detailed each course and his passion and enthusiasm came through. The Pastry Chef detailed the dessert portion and she was excellent as well. The servers were tremendously knowledgeable as well and very attentive. The flavors, seasonings and food chosen were spot on. Just a wonderful evening and we would highly recommend Cara for a great evening out.
The tasting dinner was amazing. Such attention to detail. THe chef explained each course as it came out
Chef Kyle is incredibly talented and passionate about his work. The food was simply delicious start to finish. The presentation was beautiful! Highly recommend!
Outstanding food great service albeit a little expensive
Unbelievable. Really made you feel special for the experience.
For our anniversary, we ordered the 5 courses prepared by the chefs. The chefs and waitstaff described each course and accommodated any personal preferences. The cocktails were superb. The view was amazing. It was such a special evening for us.
Cara was a dining experience well worthy of
AMAZING dining experience. Would totally recommend the blind tasting menu/experience.
We had a simply marvelous experience at Cara! The multi course 'surprise' tasting menu was superb and inventive, starting with the bounty of the sea and culminated in a beautifully prepared local lamb! The Sous Chef Kyle Palmer and Exec Chef Jacob Jasinski not only care about cuisine, they really look after their diners' entire experience. I had mentioned I was gluten free when we booked, and they served up a perfect experience - even the desserts from Pastry Chef Sarah were fabulous! My husband was impressed with both the depth and breadth of Cara's wine list (he reads them like novels!) and enjoyed the well matched pairings. Service was impeccable (thank you George!) and the view and ambiance make this a perfect special occasion spot... but the dining experience was so good it would make any day a celebration - why wait?! We just wished we lived closer to Newport - we'll be back next time we are on the East Coast!
From start to finish one of the best meals I’ve ever had. It was a complicated and surprising menu in terms of flavor that was done using straightforward ingredients and techniques. They truly cared about our experience from start to finish and if it wasn’t a three hour drive away, I would be back next week. For a special occasion in the area, this is the place you need to go to. You won’t regret your experience, top notch yet comfortable from beginning to end. While the menu will always change, I hope the level of cooking doesn’t because it was wow after wow.
We were celebrating Easter and a Birthday. Harry was our waiter. He was extremely attentive to all of our celebrations. We had a delicious meal and can’t wait to return. Highly recommend. The jazz band and scenery of cliff walk set the mood finely.
Sat with two other tables overlooking the water. Had a wonderful time! Definitely an experience with Shirley will be unforgettable!
It was a nice meal, but overpriced. Service was okay and they allowed a dog at the table next to us that smelled and was jumping. Not what you would expect when spending $400+ for brunch.
The food was mediocre at best and we waited over 45 minutes between courses. It was a huge disappointment.
Outstanding service, food and would go back again.
Don't hesitate if you can afford to splurge a little. These people know what they are doing. Couldn't have been a better experience. Absolutely loved it and can't wait to go back.
We've had tasting menus from NYC to Boston. This is one of the best we've ever had. And it was a great touch to have the chef come out and talk about each course. A wonderful experience that we plan to repeat.
Very special enjoyed the personal attention
Excellent food and service. Great experience for a special event.
We had the pleasure to visit Cara yesterday for a special date night (we have a baby girl who was born 5 months ago). Let me tell you, I was very impressed and pleased. We booked a surprise 6 dinner course, and we enjoyed the experience from the beginning to the end. We were sit in a separate room. The decoration of the room it was simple but elegant. It had a chandelier in the middle of the room, a big mirror on the wall and a serving table below it. Giving the room a vibe for romance. The tables were nicely spread, due to COVID-19 restrictions. Were 3 couples in the room. The experience started with an explanation from what I believe was the manager. He gave a little background story on Care and how it started at the Chandler. He explained how it was going to happened that night. The Amuse was made of reddish, the look was attractive to my taste, but I wasn’t impressed when I actually tasted. The Chef will come and introduce each plate in each course. There were two plates that the Chef shredded some black truffles in front of us, it gave each of those plate a boost to those flavors. The service starting from the hostess and ending with the waitress was phenomenal. We felt very special. Every detailed in the restaurant was well executed. There is a saying that says: “you get what you pay” but at Cara we got more that what we paired for. We had such a lovely night there last night that we would love to come back, but that time we will like to stay at the hotel overnight and bring the nanny to stay with the baby and book separen rooms to continue enjoying of what Cara and The Chandler can offer.
Just terrible - service was awful. Raw bar shrimp were mush. Would not go back
Dessert was inedible- so salty. Rest of the meal just OK. FINE SERVICE AND WINE but the food did not meet expectations.
Phenomenal. Chris, George, and Lily are the finest representation of what the Chanler and Cara stand for. See you again soon!
