Cars is a spectacular experience all around! 10/10! The service, quality of food & location in the infamous Chanler is second to none!
Very elegant dining experience that is good for a special date or anniversary. Portion sizes are perfect for their tasting menus, not too big and not so small where if you share with your date you only get one bite. Dining room is bright and it complements the food presentation where as the bar is opposite (dim and cozy) and is perfect for an after dinner drink by the fire.
Absolutely amazing meal. We did the plunge with the wine pairing and I was superb. Definitely will go back soon.
Never a disappointment! Cole is the best waiter! We enjoy this special place immensely...incredible food, presentation and service. Five stars!

My wife and I recently attended Cara for a Christmas dinner. We were able to try two unique tasting menus and we absolutely loved them both. Our service was excellent and the ambiance was superb. We would highly recommend Cara and certainly come back again in the future.
We dined on Christmas Day and everything was extra special. The staff, the cuisine, the atmosphere. Exceptional.
So glad we chose this place for Christmas. Service and food deserved some Michelin stars.
I've lived in Newport for 8 years, but this is the first time I've eaten here since it changed over from the Spiced Pear. The meal and service was exquisite. Lovely evening. Waygu Cheek was excellent!

Wife and I have been coming here, formerly when it was the spiced pear, for the past 4 years. We were married in Newport and keep coming back to the chandler for our anniversary to rekindle our memories.
The change to Cara has brought improvements to the food experience. Every component of each dish is splendidly crafted and perfectly executed. The taste profiles are exotic and romantic. The quality of the food is just amazing. And the service is exceptional. Add the beautiful views, stunning architecture and classic Newport mansion decor, and the experience is simply exquisite.
Eating at this restaurant is a first class event and each time a unique experience never to be forgotten!
Sheer brilliance. We opted for the six course tasting menu which was fabulous. The risotto and skate were our favorite courses. Service was friendly, formal and on pointe. Wines were fairly priced. I cannot say enough about the brilliance of the courses. I did not know if Cara could rival the former Spiced Pear. But it certainly does! One of the best tasting menus in the country!

I requested "something special" for my wife's birthday through open table and each member of staff that waited on our table said happy birthday her. They brought her a special dessert without me having to even mention anything. Great attention to detail in both the service and the food. You get what you pay for and I've paid more for less of both!
The former Spiced Pear’s fine dining carries on at Cara. We celebrated Suzanne’s birthday in the best table overlooking First Beach. George and the restaurant manager were very engaging. Cocktails and a welcome taste of Brussels sprout pedals were perfect. Suzanne’s crab on endive appetizer and my pork belly with shredded fennel in soy reduction were each so tasty! Our entrees were lobster tortelloni and Wagyu short rib of beef. Hers was surf, mine turf again both excellent. Desserts were chocolate molten soufflé and cookies moussed. Complimentary orangcello aperitif was provided as were chocolates for Suzanne’s birthday. We met neighbors from So. Kingstown as we left who were also celebrating a birthday. They agreed that their Cara dining experience was superb

Delicious! Delightful! And very intimate! From drinks to entree... a wonderful experience!
They had 3 different Pre fixe menus. Food was expensive but well worth it. The chocolate souffle was outstanding! We would definitely go back for a special occasion. Teddy, our server was the best, and the entire staff was super friendly, and professional.
A memorable Thanksgiving feast. I usually think the Thanksgiving dinner is nice mainly because of the company. At Cara the food was exceptional which for a turkey dinner is quite a feat.
Physically the restaurant is spectacular and the view to die for. The waitstaff was solicitous and charming without being annoying.
However the food was very disappointing. The tasting menu concept is confusing for two diners especially if one of them is a vegetarian. I had called previously to ask about the vegetarian options and they assured me that they were covered. Basically they were side dishes made larger or with offending items removed. My “entree” which I should have sent back was more of a side dish than a dinner- a pileup of hen o the woods mushrooms ( pricey mushrooms which can be delicious) was quite dreadful and should have been sent back. It was a large mushroom pile which can only be described as pickled. The squash soup was fine and the salad with greens, totally unremarkable. My desert with pomegranates was ok. I only ate everything because I was very hungry. My husband liked his turkey dinner option- thank heavens! I had to eat some of his veggies because I was still hungry.
Do not go if you are a vegetarian or vegan as the selections are afterthoughts with meat items removed. My mushroom “entree”came with chicken skin on top which was taken to the kitchen and removed.
Lovely place, lovely staff . At $400 for two people it should have been spectacular for both of us.

My wife and I were there for her birthday & the food was exquisite! Cole our waiter was fantastic & made sure our evening was the best it could be. The Chef was equally accommodating & made a special request come true and it was absolutely fabulous! Every staff member was friendly & attentive. The menu offered the choice of a 3, 5 or 6 course meal with wine pairings as well. The portions were not overwhelming large, but more than adequate to satisfy an appetite, but if you are a big plate eater, this isn't going to be enough...but your taste buds will enjoy it! Price wise it's on the more expensive side of the palate, but we were looking for a special place for a special occasion & this place did not disappoint! For those special occasions where you want to impress, this is the place. The views of the ocean would have been an added bonus, but at this time of the year it was dark outside at 7PM, but during the Spring and Summer..the views will only add to your experience.
This restaurant is top notch. Menu is creative and innovative with a tremendous opportunity to pick and chose. The food was superb. It was truly a culinary treat. The service was impeccable and our waiter Cole accommodated all of our requests. He also had tremendous knowledge of the menu and his suggestions were phenomenal. I highly recommend this restaurant and can’t wait to go back.
My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Cara's on Sunday evening. The service was stellar, thank you to Teddie and the culinary team outdid themselves with an exemplary experience during a busy restaurant week. Thank you for a special celebration!
This was my second time there (first time was under the Spiced Pear name), but as expected another phenomenal experience. The staff from the doorway, to the bar, to the table, to the kitchen are ALL outstanding. Very professional, clearly enjoy their jobs and take it seriously. This group loves providing excellent food and an excellent experience. Food is truly photo worthy. Delicious, beautiful, thoughtful and creative. We are thankful for the wonderful experience we had and plan to return (with friends!).

The food and service was great. The ambiance inside is pretty nice but could have been enhanced by outside lighting in their gardens so it didn’t just appear pitch black outside.
Wasn’t sure what to expect since this was our first time back since the conversion from Spiced Pear, however , Maurice is still there bartending with his charm and expertise...a welcome sight indeed. Host Eric and the rest of the staff and the delicious meal made for a wonderful dining experience. We will be back next time we visit Newport...looking forward to it :)
Our first experience at the Chandler was the former Spiced Pear, nearly ten years ago, we have to say that we were concerned and worried that the new chef and newly named Cara restaurant would not be the same, however it met our expectations and more. It was a joyful experience from the moment we arrived the valet parking the front desk, our hostess all greeted us promptly with attentive hospitality, even being seated at the bar right down to our favorite waiter Cole, who waited on us with the sincerest of hospitality. It is like a well orchestrated dance. The visit of the chef at our table, the food was amazing, it’s a foodie dream, presentation was superb. We visit twice a year traveling three hours to enjoy this scenic view and dining experience.

Great location with a view of the ocean. We had the the three course prix fixe dinner. My wife had the pork belly appetizer and I had the foie gras. For entree, my wife had the duck and I the salmon. For desert, my wife had a chocolate mousse cake and I a blueberry soufflé. Everything was excellent and a beautiful presentation. The wait staff is exceptional. They do the legacy of Newport proud.

I was very disappointed with my experience at Cara. The first thing our waiter (George) asked was if we had ever dined there before. This was our first visit. I noticed that other tables received complimentary champagne. We did not. We ordered cocktails which were quick to come and dinner. We chose the 3 course prix fixe menu. Our appetizers came and I really enjoyed my fois gras. I noticed that other tables received an amuse buche. Ours did not come until we were done with our appetizers. This usually comes first. My husband had the filet and I ordered the duck. The apple chutney on the duck was very good but the duck was very tough. The filet was wonderful. Dessert was good. Finally I noticed every other table received a parting thank you gift which is common in upscale restaurants. The waiter took our paid check and disappeared. We finally got up to leave with no gift. I went to the ladies room and my husband tracked down the waiter and asked about the gift. Overall I feel because this was our first visit our waiter felt like he could not give us the same service as repeat customers. I will not go back.
