Even with the NY Blackout, the restaurant was able to accommodate the patrons. The air conditioning and lights went out, but dinner still was served! The blackout did make service a bit slow, especially when waiting for the bill, but all in all, a nice dinner.
I have been going to Cara Mia for my pre theater dinner for many years. The food and service are consistently excellent. I no longer live in New York but knowing I would be in the theater district I chose Cara Mia. It was wonderful to be back.
Food was excellent, but AC broke and it was in the high 80's. Very warm inside. Service was only okay. Also, the open table address was the old location. They moved to a new location two weeks ago.
Eggplant Parm was too wet, pasta needed to be drained more, tiramisu was too soggy. Wine very average. Really average food, disappointing and not like the old location. Sad little bathroom and minimal decor. A really casual place with prices too high for what you get and where you sit.
Arrived early for our reservation. Restaurant was not crowded and was very warm-air conditioning was not functioning properly. Water served was warm and bread was dry. Waited 40 minutes for our appetizer to be served. Waiter kept indicating that he would check. Food was not consistent with previous quality and quantity. New location not as pleasant as previous site. Servers were disorganized and not efficient.
We ordered an appetizer and a salad and we never got them. They brought out our main course and mentioned something about the kitchen and that we would get our salad and appetizer after the meal. We told them we don’t want them. There was never an apology just an excuse.
First time in the new location. Same great food. Same great service. Same great value.
Very good food. Service was okay. They forgot our drinks but other than that it was good.
Intimate restaurant offering many great choices on the menu. Wait staff is very personable and attentive. Great spot before or after the show.
Cara Mia has been a favorite Italian restaurant on our visits to NYC. We discovered on this trip that they had moved across the street and north a few blocks. The retained their old menu, so we could still order our favorites. We felt like the food was close to how we remembered it, but servings seemed smaller (not necessarily a bad thing in our super-size it culture). We'll give them more tries as they settle in to their new, smaller location. Still friendly and good.
Was there late after a show. Got right in though it began to fill up after we arrived. Excellent food and service. It was our second time there and we'll be back again.
Darling Italian cafe, great food & wine🍽🍝🥂
Cara Mia is our go-to restaurant in the theater district. Their hand made pasta is consistently outstanding and their specials are not priced over-the-top as in so many other restaurants. Service is friendly and professional; waiters ask how is your food, refill water glasses. We have been a customer for several years and plan to continue to go there.
We were so disappointed that Cara Mia had moved. The space is even more cramped than before and the restaurant lacks charm and ambiance. It was so quaint before but this was anything but. We have always gone pre-theater for dinner for the last 15 years each June when we are in the city but will hesitate to go back. Our meal was not up to usual standard which was also unfortunate. Hate the downgrade all around.
I had reservations with friends last Wed evening. Nice, friendly waiters- but other than that- “meh”
A salad with shrimp came with no shrimp. This was fixed by returning with a salad with one shrimp cut into paper thin slices.
Pasta dish with Vodka sauce- sauce was so, so. Pasta was hard. (I don’t mean al dente.)
Main plus- a convenient location to theatre district.
it is a new location a little smaller than before. The food is served hot and delicious. The service is great writers are nice and very friendly.Like the place be coming again.
The waiters were wonderful. Service was excellent. The food was well prepared and very good.
Initially we were confused as the restaurant relocated across the street and the web site had not been updated. The restaurant is very narrow but very well staffed. Every courtesy was extended to us. The food was outstanding. I had Eggplant Parmesam and it was the best I have ever had. The service was fast and efficient. Dessert was delicious.
Great lunch special! The food was great. It is a small space, so a reservation is recommended. The service was a little slow, but they were all friendly.
Tommy our host was very gracious and accommodating. The food was outstanding. We had the Tilapia Livornese and the Bronzini. Along with a salad made up of artichoke ,cheese etc. we will definitely be coming back.
The food and the attendance was amazing!
Everyone I take to Cara Mia is very happy with the food, service, location, and prices, and so am I. Thank you very much. Ruthann Manas
Nice place, service a little slow. Food was good for the price.
Great food and wine. Loved the wild boar pasta, super flavorful. All around good food and ambience. Smaller space but great for small groups. One of our favorites in the neighborhood!
The restaurant was perfect on every level! They sat us right away and even moved us to the back for privacy. Delicious bread came complimentary! We had our orders ready until we heard the specials ! Holy cow what a menu!! It was hard to make a choice. Many of the pastas are handmade! The serving sizes were large and the tiramisu was to die for! We will be returning!
Absolutely amazing food and great service!
Great place that’s convenient to the Theater District!
Great service! Al fresco dining available in good weather!
The restaurant is way too crowded with tables on top of each other and servers reaching over people to access the next table. Food was good but noise level was high. It might be better for lunch than pre-theatre dinner. Good value for good food.
Our experience at Cara Mia was a positive one.
Everyone was nice although servers were less than attentive with getting us bread and water refills.
Food was outstanding.
A total charmer! Upon recommendation of a friend, we made reservations and dashed in to eat before an 8:00 o’clock play. Service was spectacular. Promised to get us in and out quickly and they did. We had great food, attentive service and made our play.
Food was very good and must praise the attention to detail re service. Highly recommend.
I keep coming back and bringing new diners with me- good food, ambiance, service, value
Best Ceaser Salad ever, loved the atmosphere- total what we looking for when eating Italian in New York.
Incredibly chaotic and ultra noisy place ! Waiter kept getting our order wrong ! Food is typical Italian , nothing special. The best part of the meal was my Insalata de Pera which was delicious, chilled properly and extra fresh ! There are side by side restaurants from 50 to 42 on both sides of 9th Ave. i havent found any of the many I have tried that I would rate outstanding.
always great food and service. never disappointed
Our food was delicious! Stinco d’agnello with polenta was outstanding and the strangpteti with wild boar was fabulous. Service was fastidious yet not rushed at all . Manager was friendly and solutions of all diners
Very good food, Great specials. Friendly service. Overall, would definitely go again.
Your food is consistently good, and the service as well. Your new location is very convenient, and lovely. Thank you. Ruthann Manas
Cara Mia is a great restaurant, this was my 3rd visit and every time has been excellent.
Everyone in the group thoroughly enjoyed their meal, service was outstanding we good not have asked for more.
Can't wait to go back.
Great food, service and atmosphere. Eat here every time I’m in NYC!! Love it!
