Second time there. This restaurant is a real keeper - fabulous old-world New York-style meal.
Late seat assignment. Poor service and food was not as described with mediocre taste
Food was delicious, as it always is. Disappointing to wait to be seated 40 minutes later than reservation, and a later res sat before us. Then sitting another 40min till we got any food. Apps didn't come. They brought them with our main course, although they didn't charge us for them.
You let us reserve a restaurant that no longer exists.
Good food, friendly servers, too crowded. We were sitting right in front if the door and everytime the door was opened we got a chill. Good shrimp and calamari. Good veal.
Address at OpenTable needs to be updated as the restaurant has moved two blocks up 9th avenue.
CLOSED! Permanently? How did I find out? I arrived at 7:20 for a 7:30 reservation to find the restaurant locked, tables and chairs removed, painters’ materials strewn about. How could Open Table take a reservation for a place that has clearly been closed for days??
Made a reservation earlier this week for the same night and upon arrival, the restaurant was shut down and no longer in business. Their sister restaurant down the street is also closed with a "For Rent" sign in the window.
Cara Mia should be taken off Open Table , made reservation on Tuesday and showed up Wednesday for reservation, the restaurant had recently moved out in the middle of the night with note on door reopening in a few days down street , no notice or any response thereafter from Cara Mia or Open Table , how could this happen on Open Table ? How about an apology or explanation..........
There were four of us and we each enjoyed our respective meals. The portions were large. The waiter knowledgeable and polite. The wine fine!
Perfect place for a pre theatre dinner. Wonderful food, attentive service and good value. We go often and would highly recommend.
Consistent meals are a hallmark at this small bistro on 9th avenue. Make reservations because there is always a crowd waiting for muy bien Italian food. Service is splendid and with a great wine selection this place is a must visit.
Liked the food and service, however, the ornaments on the wall had about a year's worth of dust, especially the big wheel. That ruined the whole experience for me. My suggestion is to please dust the restaurant and keep it clean!!!
I keep coming back almost week after week and always have the best dining experience
This charming restaurant has become my favorite 'go to' place... primarily for lunch, but also occasionally for dinner as well.
The value is unbeatable..the menu has a range of selections..I particularly love all their soups, which come as the prix fixe (or a salad) and their pastas and heavenly, especially the capellini primavera, with real good vegetables in season, and their quattro formagio pasta? decadent!
A glass of wine may be more expensive than your lunch, but the Montepulciano is worth it.
I am returning this coming Friday and introducing it to a friend.
My reservation was confirmed but the restaurant was closed (appears permanent) now I am being asked how my dinnerwas.
Cara Mia had delicious food and the service was wonderful! The price point was also wonderful.
I would recommend this restaurant looking for top quality food at a reasonable price.
We were first one in the restaurant on Sunday. They ran out of meatballs. Their credit card machine didn't work. Service was slow. Food was ok.
Delicious, if a bit slow on the service. Also, we should have gotten something for the water knocked over. But we will be back because it's so close to the Theater District.
It was an amazing evening with good food and service!!! Thank you!!!!
Perfect spot for a pre-theater dinner. The food is classic Italian, the service is excellent, they get you in and out in time for your curtain. Nice, homey atmosphere. Definitely a calmer, less-expensive spot than anything you'll find east of Ninth Ave in the theater district.
Hmmm... food was just a bit off this time. Grilled squid starter was great, but main dish was supposed to come with asparagus. 2 stalks mixed with corn, carrots and other veggies -- seemed like they were running low on asparagus. Salmon was undercooked (like raw, not rare) and was sent back to the kitchen. We eat at Cara Mia often -- this one was a bit of a miss.
We will definitely return. Such amazing fresh pasta and flavorful sauces. Great wait staff and charming setting.
Service outstanding and the food was amazing
The food was wonderful! So many homemade pastas!
The wine list was limited but we enjoyed every bit of the food. Staff was very friendly and attentive.
This was our first time here, and would definitely recommend. Very nice variety of dishes. I ordered from the Prix Fixe menu, portions were very generous and delicious. They also had several specials as well as fresh pasta dishes. The stuffed mushroom appetizer and pear salad were excellent!!
Wonderful dinner in MIllburn to celebrate Valentines Day. Calamari is a must try, so crispy and delicious. We both chose off menu chef specialties, my veal shank was cooked perfectly with a wonderful thoughtful pairing of sides. We will be back.
Charming restaurant. Food was very good. Would definitely return.
Wonderful all around!!
Been here a few times now. Always a great experience!
Stopped here for dinner before seeing a show. The place was packed on a Saturday night at 5pm with what I guess , other theater goers. Nice selection on the menu. My wife had one of the specials, the raviolis. She said it was very good but there were only 4 small raviolis in the meal. Felt there should have been more for the price. I had the chicken parm. The chicken was very tender, so tender I could cut it with my fork. We had no appetizers or desert. We weren't offered a desert menu but it we would have gone for it. My wife ordered a cappuccino but the waiter returned and informed us the machine was out of order and would she like an espresso instead. Passed on that. When we went to order drinks, they only serve wine and beer so be aware. Overall nice place.
very welcoming atmosphere. great service. notable food choices and quality. really exceptional for the theater district (Hell's Kitchen) overall. thanks to a wait staff that was efficient and considerate despite a full house. we arrived before the house filled, which helped. plan that way if you can, given the theater rush.
we were a table of 6 and ordered "soup to nuts:"
apps: calamari, stuffed clams, crab cakes & portobello
dinners: rigatoni w eggplant pescatore (seafood risotto), gnocchi, tortellini nonna.
tiramisu for dessert w cappuccino.
every dish was unique and delicious!
the essence of these dining experiences is the experience itself and we felt welcome and relaxed in a bustling atmosphere which is no easy task pre-theater. when that happens, and the food is good, you remember it and return. so we will be back! thanks for a memorable evening!
We are repeat customers!. The homemade pasta selections are delicious and the portions are generous but not ridiculous.
Wait staff is charming and you feel rushed It is always an outstanding night
First time there and the food was very good. The service was great. They were very accommodating and did not have to wait long for food.
Service over the top, staff attentive, not overbearing. The food is always excellent. Reasonably priced wine list.
Went for dinner after a show and even though it was crowded, service was exceptional. Staff was hustling to get dinners out, drinks filled, etc. Dinner came out quick and hot, was delicious.
Great food and great wine. Beautiful little place near our theater. We had a wonderful dinner.
Been here many times over the years. Food is always delicious. The service is always great. It can get a little pricey on the weekends when they do not offer a fixed price menu, but it's always good for and service. Great for a date
I truly enjoyed the Cara Mia dining experience. The calamari with mushrooms was delicious, as was the Caesar and the sea bass. 5he waiter was very friendly. I look forward to another visit.
