Cara Mia Ratings and Reviews
Went there for brunch and the food was terrible. Got a Pulsd deal for brunch with unlimited drinks and I ordered the pancake and it came with ONE pancake. The Pulsd deal was for $20, but when you get the check they give them selves a 20% tip on the ORIGINAL price, which they say is $80 for 2 people - so the tip was $30.
$80 BUCKS for ONE pancake, an omelette and unlimited drinks for 90 min, C'MON. We only had one drink because the glass wasn't even cleaned properly.
The manager was nice, but everything else was terrible. STAY AWAY
Sorry, not a fan. Went pre-matinee ( table for 8 ) on a quiet Saturday in January ; was underwhelmed with the service level , and the food was ordinary despite some unique variations of pasta . The bread was cold and the lack of attentiveness was noticeable as their was only one other table of 4 in the restaurant at the time. As others mentioned, the gratuity was included in the bill, without it being brought to my attention. Plenty of other better choices especially on a Saturday afternoon.
Really enjoyed my dining experience here, attentive and easy going waiter, Erzen was great. Classier ambiance, prime date night spot. The risotto with the osso bucco was phenomenal. Expect to pay a few more bucks to eat as this near the Theater District.
-Calamari Fritti (fried calamari appetizer)
-Bafalo Mozzarella (mozzarella and tomato slices appetizer)
-Osso Bucco with Risotto
-Strozzapreti with Boar
-Riesling was delicious
-RSVP via OpenTable for points
-With a $25 Corking Fee choose wisely and do the math
-Appetizers were good, but at $17-$19 a piece, I will go right to the entrees next time
I needed to find a restaurant to meet an out-of-town friend that was convenient for both of us. An hour or so on Open Table helped, and I am most glad that Cara Mia is the restaurant that I picked for our reunion. I made reservations, and we met at 3 pm. The restaurant was quiet—about half full—at that hour. Good—we could talk and easily be heard by one another. We ordered wine, one soup, and some fried calamari. We talked; we laughed; we ate. The food was delicious: the calamari was crisp, light and fresh tasting; the fennel soup was a subtle blend of many flavors and so delicious that I asked for the recipe. (The response was a most polite, “no.”)
And the wines? Chosen by our waiter, who was a truly delightful man, were by the glass and perfect for our simple repast. Trustworthy, convenient, delicious, amiable and idyllic. What a wonderful reunion we had in a quintessential NYC neighborhood restaurant.
A note to theatergoers: this is a great location for people going to an 8:00 curtain. The restaurant begins to fill around 5 pm, so do make reservations. This place is a delight, and this New Yorker says, you won't be disappointed!
We have eaten here several times. The food is excellent and the prix fixe menus cannot be
beat. But this time we went on a Thursday night, 12/28, and there was no prix fixe menu because it was a "holiday". I was not told this when I made the reservation and there was
no notification on their website. Therefore our meals for 7 people cost much more than
we were planning on. They gave us 2 free salads which was nice, but did not near make up
for the difference in price. I am still a little bitter and feel I was duped.
Service was great as was the food. Lovely presentation. Noise level got a little high as the restaurant filled up on Christmas evening but it wasn’t unbearable. Cara Mia is a small, cozy, venue. Highly recommend. We have been there numerous times and have never been disappointed.
Lovely birthday celebration on a Sunday evening. Delicious meal including artichoke appetizer and many other goodies. Good idea that the front door now has a winter enclosure to keep out the cold and drafts. Veal chop excellent, 1/2 lobster on platter with other seafood [served without a seafood fork] large dessert menu...tartufu, tiramisu and choc. moose cake nice portions but priced at $12. no prices listed on menu for desserts. Been here many times..always a winner.
Found this little gem for my twin daughters 18th birthday dinner. Small, tight and busy restaurant but the food was very good! Enjoyed the house made pastas, we had 7 people and each of the meals were very well received. Noisy for an intimate dinner, but for a family dinner it was perfect. Will return
Dinner before a Broadway show and daughters nursing school graduation. I was appalled that the champagne glasses that were first brought to us were not clean, and I had to ask for new ones. Waitress took them away, and when came back said she cleaned them herself. I didn’t argue but it didn’t endear me to the restaurant.
Our family enjoyed a meal here before a show - excellent! I had the seafood fra diavolo and fresh pasta option which was very good. Large half lobster, much calamari, and tender mussels and clams. Only small complaint, the spice level was quite low. Beyond that excellent flavor! Nice fresh salads and appetizers were great. All enjoyed. Nice selection of Italian wines even by the glass. Will return and recommend to anyone. Word of caution - weekend night before a show GET RESERVATIONS. It was a mad house with unruly folks outside that did not have reservations.
