I started dining at Cara Mia almost three years ago. I live in Kansas City and visit a few times a year. It's delicious. I swear we have the same server every time and he is wonderful. Two of our kids live in NYC now and every time we go to visit they ask if we are going to Cara Mia. It has a special place in our hearts. This time around we celebrated our 14 year old daughter's birthday. It was perfect.

Not real Italian food and bad quality with too much sauce. Somebody order spaghetti with clams and there was only 4 clams on the dish. Once we left we noticed it even had a B rating.

As out of towners my mom and I were looking for a restaurant that wasn’t something “everyone around times share” was going to. Wandering into Cara Mia was one of the highlights of our trip. Wonderful staff, amazing food! Definitely a place I will return to and suggest to others!

Not good. Tables were crammed in and we were bumped several times. Someone trying to walk by knocked over a plate from our table.
Baked clam appetizer was the first time I can remember that I didn't like baked clams.
Entrees were mediocre.
With literally dozens of restaurants to choose from in the neighborhood, choose one of them.

We have been coming to Cara Mia's for years and yes there are alot of good restaurants
in the theatre district, but Cara Mia's is consistently excellent in not only the quality of their food
but the presentation and care that goes into preparing their meals is what keeps us coming back
time after time. Last night I had a Chilean sea bass with grilled mushrooms, tomatoes, and asparagus that was to die for. My husband loves their rigatoni melanzane(which I tasted and was excellent).

Having passed it countless times, I am kicking myself for not dining there until now. What a pretty place! those spotless, sparkling chandeliers! what great value! Prix fix M-F for $19.95... in Manhattan! 2 courses -- salad or soup, and a wide choice of second courses. Both my companion and I chose the cream of zucchini soup, but it was not made with cream...just a lovely puree of the vegetable, thick, well-seasoned, delicious. I then had the capellini primavera with oil and garlic... and what lovely vegetables! we did not have wine, but I liked their selection. I am returning next week for dinner with my husband.. equally good value $19.95 for 2 courses. Service was attentive, our waiter was knowledgeable (hence the choice of soup, which we would not have had (no 'cream' of anything for either of us). I look forward to dinner.. and a bit of wine as well!

We looked forward to visit Cara Mia for dinner. We had booked a table and showed up in time. We and some other guest were asked to wait outside to get the table. We waited 30 minutes outside seeing without getting the table. We could also notice that the let other regular customer inside before we could get our table. We had a reservation for 3 not to hard to execute. After 30 minutes they started to invite 2 large bookings that had a time after us. We decided to leave this bunch standing outside waiting to get in.... we left disappointed....

Restaurant was very good. Food was excellent. Only issue was that they overbooked and we had to wait an hour for our table. I would still go back.

We showed up on time for our 6:15 reservation. At 6:45, after several parties with 6:30 reservations had been seated before us, we finally left, fearing we would miss our 8 o'clock show. The person at the door was completely unhelpful and did not seem to understand how the reservation system worked. We ended up going across the street to panda express, which was not the dining experience we were hoping for in NYC.

I’m only able to comment on the service as we were never seated and ultimately had to leave due to the delay. We had reservations for 3 at 6:15 on a Saturday night and we attempted to work with the host at least 3-4x and became increasingly frustrated as those with 6:30 reservations were seated before us. The host was unhelpful and rude. Those that made their complaints the loudest were seated with priority. We ended up leaving after waiting for 45 min. Terrible experience and would not recommend.

Knowing it would be difficult to find pasta the night before the New York City Marathon, I made our 5:30pm reservation MONTHS in advance. We arrived promptly and were told it would be just a few minutes. 15 minutes later we watched as an incomplete (not everyone was present) reservation for 5 was seated ahead of us. 15 minutes after that, we were told our table was being cleared. At 6:10pm we were finally seated. Given how packed the tiny restaurant was, it was no surprise that we couldn’t talk to one another without yelling. Twice servers reached directly over our heads for wine bottles without so much as an “excuse me.” I can’t count the number of times we were bumped into. Water glasses were sporadically filled but no one ever inquired about our meal once it was served. We watched as tables around us were literally cleared (table covers changed, wiped down, etc.) while the people were just finishing up. It was not until we were paying our bill that a server (not ours) informed us that the evening was not “business as usual”, and I certainly hope not. It was so frenetic that there was no chance to enjoy the food. We could not get out of there quickly enough. This restaurant has been around a long time and given its location has clearly dealt with crowds the night before the Marathon. It should have been a MUCH better experience given previous Open Table reviews. SO disappointed.

I have been to Cara Mia several times -- first time I went was a special birthday dinner for my nephew. He had a chocolate mousse cake that he still talks about years later! It was so good he opened a Yelp account while we were there to do a review and he's a total foodie!

On this occasion, I was meeting with a local farmer who came into Manhattan just so we could catch up over dinner. I wanted something that was accessible from Penn Station but that would be nice. Cara Mia fit the bill perfectly.

We shared a buffalo mozzarella with basil and olive oil. The farmer was kind in offering that I took a bit extra and I took it in a minute cause fresh mozzarella has a special place in my heart and I don't get to NY enough. I had a special squid ink pasta with lots of seafood and a far diablo sauce that was out of this world. She had a tortellini dish that she loved as well.

We each enjoyed a glass of wine but sadly had no room for dessert.

The servers do an incredible balance of being attentive without being a bother. Accessible but not hovering.

Cara Mia is chain operation, but it rates higher than most in this category.

the food choices are somewhat short but all are worth exploring. There is plenty of food served
for the price value.
Our meal seemed to be rushed through and not given enough time to enjoy it. The staff, although friendly, was not very warm and personable.

We waited nearly an hour until someone took our order. Made the mistake of ordering the Pasta Primavera off the pre-theater menu. A disappointing dish of peas and carrots with some pasta on the bottom, no flavor, not even served hot.

I did enjoy the Caesar salad. Very disappointing, as I had eaten here a few times before pre-theater and had always has a good experience.

Food, service and location are all just fine for New York but nothing special. I'd say overall it was a good experience. Keep an eye on your bill as they add 20% tip of the total bill, which is wrong to begin with since tip is only based on before tax. Not to mention that there was no reason for the restaurant to include a set tip on the total bill for 20% for a party of four. Felt a little bit like a scam to us.
