Food and service were great, but the noise level was terrible.
I made a 6:30 reservation, showed up early at 6:10 because who can predict weekend subway service. The restaurant was way overbooked and they didn't seat us until 6:40. They seated other parties that arrived later first. It was very annoying. That said, the food was fantastic as always.
Had a Saturday November 10th 5:30 pm reservation. made thru Opentable on August 31st, and arrived at 5:20; however, had to stay outside during a chilly night, when at 5:45 a table was AVAILABLE. [Obviously, they accepted too many reservations.] Inside this restaurant, there is almost no space for waiting before you can be seated. There was almost no room between the [too many] tables for that restaurant. Finally, it was almost impossible to carry on any conversation since all sounds bounced off the walls and ceiling and thus it was EXTREMELY loud.
The staff was very attentive from the moment we walked in. The food was very good. The risotto cooked to perfection. The pasta fagioli , though very tasty, was not traditional. No pasta in the soup. The price is very affordable, and you get a quality meal
Had a great pre theatre lunch. Everything was delicious and it was a great value and so easy to get to our show right around the corner.
Moderately priced but food is just ok. Tables are packed in. Service was good.
We were looking for a nice quaint local italian restaurant - but we were disappointed to see that this was more along the lines of a get em, get em out theater row food mill. The only problem was on the get em in side of the equation- that we waited outside in the cold for a half hour after reservation time before we were seated. Food was mostly fair to mediocre - however the stuffed mushrooms & sangria were pretty good, to be fair.
One of the most reasonably priced restaurants in Manhattan. Food is good. Not a place for a gourmet meal but you will get a very solid one and will be treated well by the fine wait staff.
Great food and service
We visited as a group of six and all had a great experience! Great wine, salads and pasta never disappoint.
Lovely small restaurant in a convenient location. The cesear salad was outstanding. The pasta was a little bland but fish was delicious.
We went here after attending a taping of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. A nice walk away from theater district hustle and bustle. The cozy brick-walled restaurant with chandeliers has an friendly and eager staff. The Italian wines are delicious. The bread is soft and fresh, served alongside a dipping dish of basil and garlic-infused olive oil. While the grilled bronzino over grilled vegetables was a little dry, it was still enjoyable. The veal saltimbocca was delicious. Look forward to coming back here again.
Opened the door and stepped inside and the girl at the door quickly pushed us back outside and asked if we had a reservation. You can barely move inside as tables are jammed together to fit as many as possible. I had the calamari fritti appetizer and it was like eating rubber bands. My wife had stuffed mushrooms that were stuffed with a soggy bread stuffing. For our mains I had the Scaloppine Piccata. It was almost sour with so much lemon. My wife had the Fusilli Del Bosco, which was just okay with not a lot of flavour. Sadly I would not recommend this restaurant.
Despite our reservations for 6:30pm we had about a 20 min wait! After we were seated it took a while before waiter appeared and he proceeded to show us a plate of specials . We ordered, drinks came out fast, had to wait a while for our salad and asked for bread as they forgot to bring it out earlier, main course came out before we finished our salads. Food tasted great! Dessert menu was shown us- all photos - prices not listed but we were full and just asked for coffee.however on bill one of us was charged for espresso which none of us ordered or given, price was adjusted, despite these few “hiccups “ we would go back as very tasty and good value for the area, the place was packed and the staff were at breakneck speed!
Went before the theater and had a really good meal. They have a prix fixe dinner for $19.95 which is a bargain for theater district. Food was very good. Second time here and will be back.
Pasta was homemade and delicious. Cute little restaurant with a true Italian vibe. Good food, great ambiance.
You cannot get a better a value than the lunch at Cara Mia. For only $10, choose from three appetizers and from a large selection of entrees. But that is not the only reason to eat here. The food is delicious, the service lovely, and the atmosphere charming. In addition, you can actually have a quiet conversation at the table! I always go here pre-matinee.
Good food but way too loud for conversations or to hear specials
Hidden gem. Wish I would’ve known about this place sooner. AMAZING
Cara Mia never disappoints! Great food and great service every time. Try the specials with their homemade pastas - fantastic! Brought some out of town friends here and they loved it!
Spending a family day in the city for dinner & a play!
The place was a very nice surprise. The service and the food were excellent. We will definitely be back there.
Truly enjoyed our meal at Cara Mia. It was recommended by family members who have been there several times. Excellent fare, very well priced, everything fresh. Will return on our next visit to NY.
Great dinner after Broadway. Fresh, delicious Italian food. Nice people, great service.
Food was great. Very nice specials. Pre-theater crowd, hence the noise and service considerations. But overall would recommend.
So pleased with the outstanding service at Cara Mia. We had a large group for dinner with an infant and all of the staff were efficient, kind and attentive. The home made pasta and salads were delicious. We will return!
Had such good food will go again
We went on time.we couldn't stay cause they do not have a bar (only wines) and my friend want to have a dry martini.. So I cancelled in person and went to Becco, around the corner.
One of our very favorite Italian restaurants in the Theatre District. The food is wonderful, and the servers are all professional and welcoming. Charming, brick-walled interior. Noisy when full, otherwise not so much.
Cara Mia was a last minute choice for a group of 5; everyone was delighted with the quality of their meal. The service was great. We will definitely be back.
need to tell people that Cara Mia on 44th is now called Gallo Nero
This restaurant was very good. The food the service the quality the ambience, the value were all good. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Food and service were excellent . Had a very enjoyable dining experience. Would definitely recommend for a dinner before the Theatre. I would go back again.
Very nice ambiance -- table cloths and cloth napkins. Waiters quite pleasant. My tilapia in lemon sauce was soupy and smelled slightly of trimethylamine (the smell when fish starts to go bad). I wondered about eating it, but being hungry, chanced it and was just fine. My table mates were quite pleased with their pasta selections. Whole experience was okay, but given other reviews I was expecting something a little more special.
Excellent food in a neighborhood Italian restaurant. Great find!
Amazing homemade pasta and a nice atmosphere. Not too crowded and great service. Would definitely recommend!
The food was simply unimpressive for the price. You can do much better for the same money in that neighborhood.
We went after seeing a show; a short walk from the theater. The food and ambience were A+ and I would definitely go back and/or refer others. The only con: Our waitress started out being pleasant and knew we were celebrating our 40th. anniversary after she asked if there was an occasion after we ordered a bottle of Prosecco, but the remainder of the time (after the salads were served) she paid minimal attention to our table until she presented the bill.
good value for the lunch special. we all enjoyed and the sangria was good, but not much wine.
My cousins and I had a reunion lunch at Cara Mia and it could not have been more perfect. The ambiance was lovely and the food was excellent. The waiter was charming and attentive. I had eaten there previously, but it was my three out-of-town cousins’ first time, and they loved it. We were never rushed, and our drinks were generously topped off without our asking. Impressive! We will be back for sure!
