About Captain James Landing
A Baltimore landmark since 1978, Captain James Landing Restaurant has earned the name "most unique eatery" in Baltimore City. For starters we are the only restaurant shaped like a merchant vessel. Five brothers created a restaurant in the 70"s with the goal of providing quality service to the citizens of Baltimore, Maryland as well as the thousands of tourist that visit our Monumental City. Our Waterfront Crab House (located adjacent of our restaurant) was awarded in 2012 "#1 Best Crabs in Baltimore" by Baltimore Magazine. Our Crab House is the one spot in the city where you can eat steamed crabs with a true waterfront seating. Water Taxi Stop #14 brings you right to our waterfront location.

Captain James Landing Ratings and Reviews
I've been to Captain James twice now, both times during Baltimore Restaurant Week, and both times I've come away saying "that was exactly what I was looking for." Nice casual atmosphere, not too stuffy, not too loud. The food and service were on point, and you can't beat Restaurant Week prices. I will certainly return and recommend Captain James to friends looking for a good meal.
I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. We were expecting to use a 'special' menu, however, we were an hour early and...luckily, their daily special was just what we were looking for. The seafood was phenomenal - especially the crab cakes & crab imperial. We were excited for the desserts, but they were just "so-so" ...but the meal itself outweighed the dessert!
I hadn’t been here in years and was excited to give it a try during restaurant week. The grilled octopus, hush puppies and crab critters were yummy. I had the stuffed shrimp and grits which was very good. My husband and brother had the prime rib and found it to be fatty and just ok. The drinks were good and we would come back.
My husband and I had a wonderful time here for our date night out. We got to sit upstairs and could overlook the city lights and water. Our waitress took great care of us and the food was delicious. I had the salmon, which was cooked perfectly, and my husband had the fried fish sandwich, which he enjoyed more than I've ever seen him enjoy. The only issue we had was having to sit next to a loud group, but that wasn't the fault of the restaurant. It was a Saturday night, which I understand is typically busy, but this group was just obnoxious and foul mouthed. We will definitely be going back.
Ordered the stuffed chicken. Wasn't bad, just way too much cheese. Had to scrape it off was so much. Husband got the cajun pasta. Pasta was over cooked and very little cajun flavor. Might try again as this was our first time here, but won't go out of the way for it next time.
This icon of Baltimore does not disappoint. It is what you expect - a place to get great seafood in a warm and inviting atmosphere. The service staff is attentive, helpful, and proficient. It's location affords an opportunity to walk along the waterfront in one of Baltimore's most historic neighborhoods and offers views of the inner harbor.
Went on Thanksgiving afternoon 2017. The food was wonderful. The service was great. The staff was attentive. The area was clean. The dining experience exceptional. Everyone had a really great time. I pass by this restaurant frequently and have dined there several times before. This place has the hardest working and proudest owners I've ever seen and it completely shows through in everything they do. Exceptional place - go treat yourself and others!
While we enjoyed our food immensely, this is the SECOND time that I have not been allowed to use a Groupon that I purchased. The first time it was because it was Restaurant Week and they weren't offering a regular menu, only the Restaurant Week menu. This time it was because it was Veteran's Day. Veteran's Day? Really? Because on Veteran's Day, people go out for their traditional Veteran's Day brunch? The restaurant was EMPTY when we got there at 11:15. When we left around 12:45, it was still mostly empty. I planned to use it this day because I had houseguests and I wanted to take them out. There was no other time that I could've used it before it expires.
And although Veteran's Day was, legally, Saturday, the federal government observed it on Friday. I know this because my houseguests work for the federal government.
Plus, they reported us as not having shown up for our reservation, so we nearly didn't get the Open Table points..... no bueno.
