Captain James Landing
Fried Crab Cake
Broiled Seafood Platter with Lobster Tail
Shrimp, scallop, lobster, fettuccini in a parmesan cream sauce
Great food, great atmosphere, cant complain about the asking price.
My review is based on a Monday lunch time. Loved the decor and coziness of the restaurant, along with the wonderful meal!
We went to lunch on a Monday. We were all satisfied with our choice. I must admit that I was sorry to see that the menu was condensed since our last visit. Our waiter was attentive but had to serve other tables as the lunch crowd started to appear.
On a busy Sunday morning, where we passed dozens of folks lined up for brunch at other more centrally located restaurants, we found Captain James Landing to be a great spot. Food was delicious, service was prompt and while it was busy it wasn't crowded.
Other reviewers said it was loud no would agree. The food and service was excellent and a very good value.
A little expensive but overall good service and food.
Food was good. Servers were friendly and attentive
The music was way to loud, this was our first time there and honestly won’t be back. The food was decent service was decent nothing outstanding.
Delicious meal and great service!
If you have not been here recently, the menu has been changing for awhile now.
No more escargot, but the grilled octopus is pretty good. New generation of family is trying out new things. Substantially higher prices, not too sure that they are justified.
From the free parking to the complimentary birthday ice cream, this was a great experience! Excellent food and service--highly recommended :-)
Very dated inside, and menu on Open Table does not match the menu they presented. Very disappointed with selections available compared to what was being promoted on Open Table link menu.
The food was pretty good! But the price was much higher than expected and the gratuity was 18%.
Great food! Super fun environment.
Awesome as usual!!!!
Although the service started out a bit slow, it didn't affect our impression of the restaurant. The food was fantastic, served quickly and hot! The drinks were delicious too. It was confusing why the restaurant automatically assessed an 18% gratuity, but we would have given about that much anyway.
Crabcake sandwich was $42
Wonderful service by Gina. Love the food & miss the seafood salad. Delicious omelet.
The service was excellent! the waitress and wait staff were very attentive! I had a crab cake, which had a LOT of filler. The lumps of crab were tasty, but I just don't like the globbs of filler inbetween the meat. My husband ordered a cheese steak sandwich, and it was ok. Our daughter had scollops and she love them. So it all depends on what you order I guess.
The price points of the items on the menu were confusing when ordering 2 sides.
On vacation in Baltimore, we order calamari as an appetizer and it came out tasting fishy. It was definitely old. We ordered our entrées — I ordered the crab cakes at $42, my daughter ordered the special for $28, and my husband ordered a poor boy oyster sandwich. All three entrées were horrible. I sent back mine and my daughter’s as well, but my husband kept his just eat the french fries, though he only ate one bite of the sandwich. When we told the waitress, she had a little bit of an attitude, but the price asked did not match the quality of the food at all. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend dining here.
The Foos is always amazing !!! The staff are very polite and cool! Love this restaurant! Would definitely recommend !
My favorite seafood place ...food and service is always good!
Captain James was a restaurant I had been saving for a special occasion, and I was so excited when I finally got to try it. We were seated promptly and ordered drinks and appetizers. Our waters were constantly refilled which was great. I ordered a sangria, which the wrong flavor came at first and I mentioned and was repaired.
However I'm giving poor reviews for two reasons:
1. We ordered calamari as an appetizer, which was truly awful. I've actually never had such bad calamari, and my husband (whose favorite dish it is, and who never hates calamari) voiced the same before I even said it. It was inedible, so chewy and fishy that I could not swallow. His had some frozen bits in the middle, which was just icing on the cake. We each ate 3 pieces, and gave up. Our server did not comment on the full plate and did not comp it, simply took it away, which felt like poor form.
2. I ordered a crabcake sandwich on the 'lite fare' menu. When everything else on this menu was $10-$15, and the crabcake sandwich was marked market price, I assumed that the price couldn't be more than $25. When the bill came, and the price was over $40, I was pretty astounded. I've been to more upscale restaurants with crabcake sandwiches for $15, and was expecting a price somewhere in this realm of $15-$25. Even $30 and I wouldn't have written this review. But $40 and I am pretty turned off. Perhaps I should have asked, and that's my bad, but I've never been THIS burned by it before. My husband ordered a fried rice dish, and same issue. Expected definitely cheaper than $40+.
Before receiving the bill, I thought okay; this place has a decent Baltimore crab cake sandwich. Not my favorite, but not my least favorite either. Now, I can't imagine why anyone would come. It's not even close to worth the price, and doesn't have the ambiance to compensate like other waterfront restaurants in the place. I hate writing negative reviews, but when restaurants are opaque about pricing, it's worth warning
Was not impressed with the decor or ambiance. The place had three customers in there yet the wait staff seemed impatient and one waitress knew no English and got an attitude when all I asked was for a towel to wipe a wet chair. The chair I was to sit on 🙄. The kids enjoyed the food and it was good food, but the staff attitude and heavy gloomy decor made that a no for me for a repeat trip.
So much limited menu.
We like it here..parking , close to home,
but come on, $37 for a, yes, a crab cake....
Ristorante carino, di sicuro effetto sui bimbi, con una buona cucina di pesce ed un servizio cortese. C’è anche un menù bambini. Vedendo le foto mi aspettavo una trappola per turisti ma in realtà siamo stati molto bene!
I enjoyed the variety and since I've been there before, I found selecting one item difficult. My final selection was for lamb chops and they were great!
Everything was great, the only reason for the 4 stars was that the crab legs were just okay, a bit small for the price and under seasoned as well as the staff was a bit over extended so it at time took a bit longer than usual to get things like water refills. Still would love to go back!
2nd time here and we got the same waitress. (Can’t remember her name) She’s lovely and recognized me from a few weeks ago. I’ll be back again.
Food was great! Service was lack luster! Gratuity was added to my bill and it was only two of us. This restaurant should NEVER charge gratuity for a table for two. I’m left to question if it was added because the waitress was aware of her poor service and feared her tip would reflect such!
The waitress had no personality and hardly spoke or gave advice (no info on drinks, no info on type of oysters, etc). The food was rather over priced but mostly good except for the filet mignon which was quite bad (tasted like banquet quality).
Just ok. Overpriced.
It was ok.. food was just so so
The waitress added both 18% and 20% gratuity after serving the check- this seemed more so sketchy than an actual accident. We also ordered a seafood platter, the crab balls tasted bland and had extra, extra filler with peppers, only one scallop, small (around 3oz) fish, 2 shrimp, and 1/2 a snow crab. I was surprised by the contents of the platter given the price. There are several local spots that provide better quality food for better prices.
Service work good food was ok price was fair. Location was great I love Fells Point.
We haven’t been to Captain James Landing since before the start of the pandemic. It was great to be there again. We were disappointed that there’s no longer the extensive breakfast menu that they had prior to the pandemic, but the food was good and we’ll be back. I miss the biscuits! Thanks and best wishes!
Great crabs: great service: great food
Great blue crab frittata, the waffles were fine.
Food is always good. Too bad about the price increases due to the crab prices
