Captain James Landing
The crab cakes were great the server was very attentive and we had a good time.
This establishment is a very popular neighborhood find known for the delicious seafood they sell and generous plate fixings and it continues to live up to the high bar that has been set.
There crab cakes have a lot of filler and they put red peppers in them. It was just not my cup of tea. There service was amazing. I will return and try something different.
Dined at Captain James for my birthday along with my mother. Restaurant week menu was pretty good. Although it was my birthday my mom seemed to enjoy her meal way more than me. She had the lamb, seafood chowder, lobster tail, and crem brûlée. My salmon was nicely cooked and the squid on top was okay. I didn’t particularly enjoy the seaweed and the shrimp Croquet had more rice than shrimp. I would give this restaurant another try in the future.
My wife and I had date night, great service and food, we will return
Casual lunch with two friends. Excellent service and tasty lunch selections. One of my favorite local breakfast and lunch stops. Good quality plus free parking across the street is added bonus.
The food was great, we had a Groupon but the place has so many menu items on special
So we could not use the Groupon with the special
But the regular menu items were over priced
At least my 6th dining experience and they never disappoint! Food was amazingly delicious, service was timely, and clean environment. I had 2 of my closest friends dine with me tonight for their first time at Captain James. They were very pleased with my choice of restaurants!
Food is amazing...every little bit of it.
Great time. 6 of us to celebrate mother’s birthday. Great service and food at reasonable price. Thanks.
Best service we have had anywhere in a very long time!
What a great evening!
The food was amazing and plentiful. The waitstaff was friendly, attentive and added to the overall enjoyment of the dinner.
Will make this a return visit for certain.
Great! Food is always good.
Great food!!! Great service!!!
Stuffed shrimp was excellent! Used a Groupon - price was great w Groupon. Also had cod fish which was very good. Great Baltimore restaurant!
We (5 top) arrived Sunday night 15" late for the reservation but were seated promptly. The fact that this downtown restaurant has an ample sized parking lot is a godsend, especially when arriving late. The restaurant was packed and noisy. Everyone loved their food, especially the Stuffed Chicken Imperial (warm and cheesy and crab filled chicken cutlet) and Crab Cakes. Plenty of warm rolls and soft butter (mmmm). The seafood stew was a bit spicy for 1 person's taste but that is a issue of personal preferences. A minor problem that I have a pet peeve about is the size of the water glasses. They were about 6 to 8 oz. and the servers had to constantly come over to refill people's glasses. It became a distraction. A simple remedy would be to use larger goblets. I believe that the server's would also appreciate it. Please be aware that the gratuity (in our case) was already incorporated in the bill.
Would definitely recommend the restaurant based on the food alone.
Always a pleasure! Food, service atmosphere 5stars
My team thoroughly enjoyed our holiday outing! Very accommodating and our server was pleasant.
Awesome staff and food! Have had Christmas lunch for staff at our office there for years. They make it such a great event.
The New Orleans style mussels were so good ... I hope no one saw me licking the plate! The calamari was fresh! I had no room for a main course after the appetizers, but that's ok. They were delicious (including the Brussels sprouts).
Service was friendly and prompt. Menu options were many and they were flexible with the side dishes. Food was very good; I had a crab cake with lots of lump meat in it. MDW had scallops which were also quite good. Drink prices were also reasonable.
Reasonably priced with a Groupon. Otherwise, not sure I would go. Oyster shots were good. Crab cakes were just okay. Better options in Baltimore.
A must visit for out of town folks looking for a nice place with great food.
Great meal and excellence service from our waitstaff Danielle
When we arrived we were 10 minutes late.
We were told the kitchen was closed, then under protest we were seated, and rushed through dinner by the waiter . We will not return....If the restaurant is closing at the time of your resevation, it seems odd not to mention that an 8pm closing for a restaurant with a sign outside that says 1am closing is odd. Granted it was a holiday. I was asked to re-confirm the reservation and at no time was an early closing ever brought up.
This place was such a treat for a Thanksgiving dinner. The menu is pretty extensive but I walked in knowing what I wanted - considering the build up to going. Our waiter, Greg, was super personable and took great care of us. The portions were big and even though I came with an empty stomach (and did not order an appetizer), I still had food to take home with me.
So the good part, the food. I ordered the Crab Mac & Cheese and brussel sprouts. Neither disappointed. That Mac & Cheese tasted like grandma made it. It lived up to my expectations and was so delicious. I'd make the trip back up to Baltimore if the M&C mood struck. My wife got the escargot and baked sweet potato. I don't really have much to comment on for her because she really wasn't feeling well so..we'll consider it good. My mom had a crab cake, broccoli, mashed potatoes, and brussel sprouts as well. The crab cake was ginormous and looked very appetizing. As a crab cake aficionado, she had no complaints and spoke very highly of it.
All in all, great experience. I didn't dig too deep into these reviews because often times, I feel like people get on yelp to complain about restaurants instead of dealing with the issue at the restaurant. As a former server, I can say that talking to a manager goes a long way. If you're unhappy with something, don't get on Yelp and bash the place without speaking to someone in charge. I don't understand why people do that, but I digress.
When the weather is warm again, I'd love to come back and try the crab house side. My only complaint was my margarita... Next time I would grab a beer instead. It tasted like a midori sour with habenero tequila. I drank it but do not recommend.
Server was very responsive to our needs. Food was served fast. Food was very good. It was hot, good flavor and very presentable. We will dine here again. Prices are very good. You will not be disappointed.
I love this place, its nothing more to say. The food is always good, customer service is always excellent. The food quantity is great for the price.
The food was beautiful and delicious. Our waitress made sure everything was as it should be.
We walked here from Fells Point - easy to find, neat concept. Away from the noisy tourist joints. We were greeted warmly, seated immediately, and drink order taken promptly. Oysters Rockefeller was well prepared and tasty. Main courses were large and also well prepared. Nice ambiance, not too noisy, casual atmosphere. Prices were very reasonable, particularly the specials. If we get Back to Baltimore, we'll certainly dine here again.
Food was amazing, servers were great!
Another great experience at Captain James. Food was very good, as was the service.
Nice dinner w my wife.
Would go again
Excellent wait staff. Beautiful location. Great atmosphere. Fantastic food.
Excellent service, food was good and reasonably priced. A bit noisy
Very good value. Whole steamed lobster special $19.99. Stuffed shrimp, good with lots of crab. Ambiance cute; looks like a boat inside and whole building looks like a boat.
We travel approximately 50 minutes to get to the restaurant because we enjoy the food and the Baltimore City setting. We both enjoyed our crab imperial. I suggest substituting one side for the baked zucchini. It is prepared with tomatoes and onions. As always, we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience.
Excellent meals and outstanding service! Very generous portion sizes!
The waiter was outstanding!!
