food was not as great as we expected, dinning area too small and awkward,
Great food! Great service. The Calamari was delicious. Lobster tails were really good. Crab cake was awesome. Would definitely visit again when in town!
This was our first visit to Captain James Landing and we're already planning a return trip. The food was delicious and the service was good. While you can barely see the water, you FEEL like you're on the water, because of the port hole windows and decor.
Excellent service and food. The food is always fresh and hot.
Our first visit was for lunch, very good. I had the chicken Caesar salad wrap and my husband had the crab cake sandwich, both were delicious. We decided to go back for dinner, not so good. I had the stuffed flounder, the fish was not seasoned well at all and the crab meat was ok, it was lump meat but tasted like there was too much mayonnaise used. We did order the seafood nachos and that was very good.
I love this place, so far everything I've ordered has been GREAT!!! My favorite is the seafood nachos it's a meal by themselves
The staff was accommodating and very nice. We had two infants and 3 little kids with us - good place for kids. The crab cake was fantastic!
We have dined here a half dozen times now,
the quality of food still remains outstanding and very delicious.
We tried this restaurant based on OpenTable reviews and found out it had a Groupon deal (even better!!). We crossed our fingers and hoped it would be good and it was!! Our appetizer of Chesapeake Mussels was delicious. My husband had the broiled seafood platter and I had the imperial crab cake. Both were great! Our kids especially liked the feeling of being in a ship! We would recommend this restaurant for families, groups or date nights.
We were visiting Baltimore, and went here for crabs. We were NOT disappointed! Covered the table with paper, handed us wooden mallets, dumped the crabs on the table and let us have at it. Fun and delicious. The mussels we had as an appetizer were also terrific and large enough to share. Would definitely return here in our next trip to Baltimore.
The crab mac n cheese had no crab in it-not a single piece was present in the whole dish and it did not even taste of crab in the slightest. The grits that came with my scallop dish were watery, mushy, and flavorless.
Had a wonderful meal and service was fine. I had expected to sit upstairs, but there was a private party going on. I wish I had been notified prior before I climbed three fights of stairs. Even so, I will definitely eat here again!
I have a problem when a party of 2 automatically has an 18% tip added to the bill. A large party yes. But not a party of two. This has never happened to me before. Would not return for that reason which is unfortunate. Overall food and service was good. However, how can the evening special be gone by 6:30? Also if I have a reservation I should not have to wait.
Great spot for lunch in Baltimore. Easy parking, no waiting.
We have eaten here in the past and the food as always is consistent, fresh, and tasty. The service was a little hectic at first due to the crowd, but settled down afte a while. Our waiter was attentive and offered suggestions on entree ad drink choices. Wewill definitely return.
My 31st birthday dinner was everything & the food was delicious
After driving past a million times, we snagged a Groupon and finally dined at the ship shaped restaurant. It was wonderful. We were seated promptly upon arrival, which was before our Open Table reservation time. Out waitress was knowledgeable and made appropriate recommendations. The meal was paced perfectly. All of our food was hot and delicious- imperial stuffed mushrooms, broiled seafood platter and a Greek blackened salmon pasta. We didn’t have room but opted to go for dessert anyhow - the baklava and creme brûlée were sooo good. The menu has enough options for everyone and the prices are reasonable for the quality of the offerings.
I had a Groupon and we enjoyed ourselves it was only two n a half ( my 10 month old came)of us and they charged us 18% gratuity automatically which was disappointing. Pretty good seafood average $30 a plate though .
The manager seemed very accommodating because I was late for my reservation and they worked me in anyway .
I would say this is more for special occasions they do have a basic menu with burgers and things children would like as well .
Beware. Discriminates on whether to add gratuity that goes against their policy stated on the menu.
This place was good, just not great. I selected this restaurant based on a TV show that recommended it as "authentic Baltimore." I went for its famous crab cakes. The soup, the Seafood Stew, was fantastic. It was flavorful and full of a variety of seafood. The crab cakes (Captain's Classic Crab Cakes) were just so-so. Definitely not what I expected after all the hype.
Service was good, though the server was a bit over-the-top dramatic. The noise level was quite high for a Tuesday night.
It's quite casual, and would be a good spot if you've never tried various seafood dishes before. It was good ... just not great or worth going out of my way to get there.
My group and I had read great reviews about this place. Unfortunately we didn't have a great experience. The waiter was okay, but rude at times. The food was okay, but not amazing. Being from NY, I am accustomed to having a gratuity tip being added into the bill. Our group was a party of five and some people in the group did not feel that our waiter deserved that much of a tip. I'm hoping that they split their tips because there was one young man that came around frequently and made sure our water glasses were full. I would not recommend someone spend their time and money there.
From the hostess to our waitress, Danielle, everything was phenomenal. Food is always amazing
Food was well paced and delicious
Food was excellent. Service was very good. Atmosphere is cool. Went for a family lunch on trip to Baltimore. Would definitely go again
The food was not bad, however for a Maryland Seafood restaurant I expected more. I expect options that are listed on the menu to be available. Two sides were a part of my entree, however only two sides were available Rice and Broccoli. I am a person who expects good service when I am paying. The service was not good and the food was okay. I have had better dining experiences in places that are not as expensive.
Clean, friendly, casual. Staff could be more attentive to empty glasses.
We love this restaurant, it’s one of our favorites! Always bustling and strongly recommend reservations, really appreciated Open Table points on top of using a Groupon - win win, in my book. Our absolute favorite appetizer Mac n cheese with bacon and crab, next time just ordering two or three of these with a side salad! Parking for free across street. Good music not too loud, cheesy but retro cool nautical decor, top notch servers. Only aspect lacking is generic and missable dessert but we get so full there’s no room
The food was very fresh and authentic. The service was also spectacular.
Went for my girlfriend's birthday. Both our meals were amazing. Service was a bit slow to take our drink order to start. Once the meal arrived service was good, not too many unneeded visits. Kept our drinks full. Would definitely recommend to friends.
Amazing food and attentive staff. Great place for a special occasion.
Our special occasion, yet casual dinner at Captain James Landing was great. Crab Cakes were good, Scallops were tasty, small, but tasty, and the Cream of Crab soup was outstanding. We will be back soon!
Captain James Landing is a great, local destination for crabcakes and seafood when you're in Baltimore. Among two or three other restaurants, this place has the best crabcakes in the city; lotsa crab and little filler. If you're not into shellfish, they have a great selection of fish and what look like great burgers, although I must admit I've never ordered one from Captain James. If you're into cocktails, be sure to check out what their mixologist's latest offerings are. On my last visit I had a delicious margarita with habanero-infused tequila. Muy delicioso! Bonus points for having an exterior that looks like a ship.
The restaurant was old and furniture was pretty sorry looking. The tables were old chairs uncomfortable but food was good and service was Above Average the crab cakes and hush puppies were delicious
Food and service were great! Maybe a little on the pricier side but you get what you pay for.
Our meeting finished early so we headed to the restaurant at 9:30 rather than the 11:30 reservation. Bill (manager) was very accomodating and seated us promptly with a choice or breakfast or lunch menu. We chose lunch. Paul our waiter explained the specials and when asked made a few recommendations. We started with the fried calamari w/ Old Bay - terrific starter - hot and tasty. We both had the fried flounder sandwich which included a whole filet of flounder deep fried to perfection - served very hot with a huge portion of french fries. Came with pickle and lettuce and tomato. Very nice. Too big to finish so we both brought half home. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Paul did a great job.
We enjoyed our meal here and plan to return.
Food was great and I really like the Sangria. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Good seafood is a must
Friendly staff and great food
The service was exceptional, and I truly commend the waiter that we had - I believe that his name was Ryan. The food as creative, filling, and simply delicious. It was a laidback, enjoyable atmosphere that made this late V-Day dinner really terrific. Would certainly return!!
I have to admit, I have been sleeping on Captain James. I’m a seafood lover and I was scared to try something new. Captain James’ food was the best seafood I have had in a while! Everything perfectly seasoned and presented. The first of many more date night options!
First, I must say that the FOH manager Greg was Amazing. When we were seated he promptly greeted us and asked if he were using any discounts or Groupon. We used Groupon for $80 worth of food for $40 which I actually paid $20 for. He told us what was included and what wasn't which was very helpful. All the regular menu options were available expect for their happy hour specials. The food was costly but the food was good. There is an 18% gratuity that is added to the bill which was about $14 dollars. I wasn't too big on the Mediterranean Salmon because the feta and kalamata olives made that dish too salty. The steak was amazing. I would return without a doubt.
