Captain Americas - Grafton Street
I've been a happy customer for years and have kept returning at least once a year on my birthday since childhood, however I do have some feedback for a few areas I was disappointed with.
Our food came very fast which was great but the chips came out cold even though half of them were burnt.
I'm vegan so had to order a vegetarian option without the cheese or cream which was then drier than it should have been so would have been much happier if there were actual complete vegan meal options available to have. There was no vegan or allergy safe options for dessert, so we couldnt order anything, which we would have liked to especially with it being a birthday dinner.
So the restaurant's menu needs to add options if people aren't to be excluded or put off returning if their dietary requirements can't unfortunately be met.
Our cocktails all came with two plastic straws in each glass. Given the now common place knowledge of the wastefulness of these single use plastics and the damage they do to our environment these should be replaced with paper straws or reusable stainless steal straws and shouldn't be placed in all drinks as standard without request.
I do really like the restaurant but could not happily return without feedback like this being taken on board.
I haven't been to Captain America's for years, probably not since college which is a good few years ago. I was taking my daughter to the panto and thought it might be nice to eat there. My first visit was with my mum on a panto visit. I booked in advance so no waiting time despite a long queue at the door. The waitress was very friendly and brought us straight to a table which hadn't been cleaned and set up since the previous occupants left but she told me it would be done. The waiter took our order immediately, which was good, but despite being asked he never cleaned the table. Our food arrived so quickly that I can't believe it was prepared after we ordered. Very basic hotdog and chips with no garnish at all for my daughter. My enchilada was fine but way too much dressing on the side salad. With chocolate ice cream served in a glass, a water and a coke it came to 30. I'm glad we went and I would go again but I can't say I would recommend or that it lived up to my memory of it. In all honesty McDonald's would have been just as good at about a third the price.....and the table would have been clean.
It seems to have gotten very shabby. The years have not been kind. Shame, because I remember the food being a lot better.
Had a great meal we had small children with us & they had a ball. Our waiter couldn’t do enough for us. Initially we were not happy with seating but (party of 9) luckily another party cancelled & they moved us to a more comfortable area
Great food. Great staff. Nothing too much trouble for the staff.
Food was amazing very impressed. Portions where huge and great value.
Hi Rosa, Thank you so much for the amazing review. So glad to see that you were pleased with our services. Hope to see you soon again. Best Regards, Melinda
My husband and I brought 4 grandchildren to Captain America’s on Saturday after the Gaiety Panto. We did the same with our own children years ago. We were very disappointed with the food. From ordering to getting our 6 meals took approximately 5 minutes. We ordered two hotdogs which were microwaved and totally inedible. Two enchiladas arrived , I’m not too sure when they were cooked but it certainly was not any time around the time we put in our order! My granddaughter ordered a pizza which I found extremely difficult to cut. She found it difficult to eat. The chips were completely soggy - I can only assume they were microwaved - the tomato ketchup did nothing to improve their taste! Overall, I was very disappointed with our visit and we will not be repeating the visit again.
Great place, good food, nice fun atmosphere.
The access is poor though. We had a baby buggy with us and it was awkward carrying it up their steep stairs
Hi SineadC, Thank you for taking the time and leaving us your feedback. Its great to see that you enjoyed everything. Hope to see you soon again. Best regards, Melinda
Food overpriced. Desert Fudge Sundae. Very disappointing. Fudge set at the bottom of the glass underneath ice cream and fresh cream. Obviously lying in the fridge for some time.
We were in as a family for my husband's birthday and we were all thrilled. The staff seemed a little under pressure as there wasn't many and we were a large group. The food was gorgeous as always and we all left very happy. Music was just a little too loud.
Brilliant food, good service and the overall atmosphere was great. Would definitely recommend.
Excellent venue for big & small groups & the menu caters for all ages! It’s a yearly event for us as so close to Gaiety Theatre!
Staff so friendly & helpful. Service excellent
Would highly recommend a visit if in the area
Very large portion sizes! Quick service.....we were with 8 kids and they usually complain if they have to wait more than 5 minutes but never heard them complain once!! Great milkshakes and nachos too die for. Our serve was very good
Nice to catch up with friends, food service was extremely quick
Not what I was expecting def not worth the money! I've since heard tallaght restaurant is better! Good thing about Grafton is how quick food came out slightly could but warm enough not to complain! My daughter has an earing condition so we ordered the hotdog but as she eats no bread chips etc she literally took sausage out of bun and that was it I happily paid for the meal even though that's all she had along with jelly later we asked for a portion of nuggets to be told it would be €9 for them as they will not do as special order I was extremely disappointed I intended to say it when we were paying but the que was down the stairs waiting for table so I didn't want to cause added
Pressure but said I will send them an email about my disappointment! Very loud but bearable staff was lovely not great English with 1/2 but they were lovely and polite and got the order right which in few restaurants doesn't always happen! Would I return it Grafton I don't really think I would...
the food is what it is, not great over all it's a poor take away by any standards. Service was very bad, we asked for drinks n after about 15mins we got them, we ordered our food and about 2 secs later starter was out then we had to wait for our mains. My wife and son got their pizza and after 5 mins there was no sign of the other 2 mains coming. Eventually we got them 10mins later, the chips were rank my wife n sons pizza tasted strange.... it was a treat to take the kids there but we won't be going back again.
Our booking was after 6pm and the restaurant was showing signs of having had a very busy day.
Floors hadn't been swept, there was no soap in the toilets and they were out of milkshakes!
The room was very hot and stuffy when we arrived but the staff did put on the air conditioning when requested.
A good selection of starters mains and desserts and dinner was well like by all, kids menu was perfect for the little ones my only issues are that people who didn't order a starter dish did not receive anything while others where eating and it took awhile to a servers attention to get people their food.
Great memories of Captain America’s from my own childhood but my visit with my own kids was disappointing - our clothes reeked of grease after we left, our initial seats gave us no space and the staff were not helpful as I looked to sit at an alternative seat. Kids liked their food and milkshakes but expensive.
No how can you you get the food out so quick a burger to be in take at least 10 minutes topping where cold as mushroom top/chips and though the restaurant was very busy it did not look or smell very clean
We ordered sundaes and a banana split for dessert and they came with no whipped cream. The waiter was polite and apologised that they had none but for most of us the whipped cream was an important part of the dish so we may not have ordered them if we'd known in advance and the kitchen really shouldn't be running out anyhow.
Always great food and service, even on a very busy day, the kids love it!
Very slow, poor service, food was not good, we had burgers that were so dry I thought it was the leather on the sole of my shoe. Toilets were also very dirty, would not recommend
Went with adults and kids as a Christmas night out
Had a reservation for 1:45pm on Sat 21 Dec. Food was nice, but kids had finished their starters 7 mins before adults starters arrived. 2 main courses (pizzas) arrived 10 mins before other 3 mains (burger, fajitas & steak). Was supposed to be a family meal, but we didn’t eat together. The alcove that we were in (on right hand side as you walk towards the back of the restaurant) was very cold compared to the rest of the restaurant. We look forward to our panto and nice meal every Christmas, but this was so disappointing - don’t think we would book it again.
Staff very friendly and attentive.. perfect spot to dine with children
The waitress was so accommodating to our party and was very attentive. The food was very quick and tasty. Fantastic experience. They did very well considering how busy it was
Great food, nice welcome, good value for money. Will be back!
Superb staff. Excellent food. Very good value. Highly recommended
I organised a party of five for lunch. Some had not been there previously and I was nervous about the sound level of the background music. We found it a little noisy for chat but when I mentioned it to a member of staff they lowered it just a tiny bit and it was fine then. We also found it quite cold in the part of the dining room where we were. But apart from those two minor issues we all enjoyed the visit!
HI Ann, Thank you for you feedback. We will look into the issues mentioned above, but I am glad you had an overall good experience. Looking forward having you in again. Best Regards, Melinda
Very little atmosphere compared to other Christmases. Manager giving out to staff in front of us. Ice cream Sundaes served in mineral glasses! Our waitress was lovely. Portions smaller than other years.
We went as a group .. been the xmas period I did expect it to be busy .. but it wasn’t that bad .. have been here many of time with my family too.. the menu has changed a bit .. I personally didn’t like the menu change and had to settle for a burger which in my opinion was just rushed onto the plate .. no side salad or anything but a handful of cold chips .. had garlic bread for starters which was burned too .. went onto the dessert so I luv brownie but when the dessert finally arrived the ice cream had melted and the brownie was swimming in the plate in melted ice cream and sauce .. The bill also had to be changed because we were charged for 2 items one that was included in the meal and one was a sauce which I never received.. finally after waiting about 15 mins for it to be resolved we happily paid and went on our way .. not a happy ending to what is normally a great place
I have to say the service was fantastic and the food was very good thankyou!!
When my daughter’s food was being served to us we were given an extremely hot plate without being warned how hot it was. We couldn’t even put our hands on it let alone give it to a 3 year old.
Got our starter within minutes of ordering, then after waiting 45 minutes for our main course we asked our waiter what the delay was, he went went to find out and never came back to us. Ten minutes later we had to ask again!!! Eventually we got our main course and it wasn't worth the wait. We have visited this restaurant on numerous occasions over the past 20 years but unfortunately I'm not sure we will return anytime in the near future. Very disappointed.
Family night out
Great vibe, great food, great staff, great location
Food was great as usual but one of the children (age 6) had a pepperoni pizza, he couldn't eat the pepperoni it was so hot, I tasted it and even for an adult it was burning. Maybe you could have a milder pepperoni for the children's pizza.
Very disappointing. One starter out of three not served. Think it was given to a different table. Had to ask after a long wait and then wait for it. Only two out of three sides of fries were served. Asked for the bill which didn't come so stood at cash till to pay. Told the staff member not to charge me for three sides since only two were served. Was told that I was only being charged for 2 since I was included in the price of one main!! No apology for the error or light bulb moment that I was still charged for three.
I got a reused wrap in my fajatas. I Was disgusted. Manager did take my dish off the bill but I will not be returning as that is such a gross thing to do!
Had a great meal.
Marked down a star because the kids pizza was awful. 2 of the kids wudnt eat it and j tasted it and it was not nice.
However rest of everyone's food was delicious.
Price to was slightly higher than expected.
Service was amazing and the staff are so friendly with the children which we really liked
