Capri Italian Restaurant - Indianapolis Ratings and Reviews
We always love coming to Capri; coming with friends makes it even better. The service was great and the wine list very good. The recommendation of a particular Nebbiolo was perfect. The food was well prepared and delicious. Their tiramisu was close to the best I’ve had!
This was the 3rd time we have eaten here since the change in ownership. The first 2 times were very good and we felt no significant change in anything, which was good as the Capri has always been a favorite for us. This time we felt the quality of the food had slipped. The mixed vegetables were under cooked and the Au gratin potatoes were too juicy and did not have much taste. The Pollo con Salsiccia has always been a favorite and we felt the portions, while adequate, were smaller and could turn off some of the previous clientele. They had a frozen water pipe earlier in the afternoon which caused a minor 15 minute delay in our reservations. We appreciated that they called and let us know of this delay which was not a problem and they made up for it with a free appetizer. It might have been the reason for less than previous quality food experiences and we hope it returns back to what we always enjoyed under the previous owner. We will return and look forward to trying out the new chairs we understand are on order for the bar.
My friends and I enjoyed an excellent meal at Capri. They each chose their "old favorites", and I had the branzino, the seafood special that night. We ate very early so we could claim the best table in the house - the one in front of the fireplace in the cozy bar - perfect on a very cold night. Our server was friendly and attentive, and our food was delicious. A wonderful winter evening!
My boyfriend and I went here for NYE and it was our first time dining at Capri. The crowd was mainly filled with those aged 40+ and everyone was well dressed. I make this point because if you're looking to take your rambunctious 21 year old girl friend here, don't. And dress nicely. My boyfriend was under-dressed in his jeans and plaid shirt. We were sat at a table for two in the corner, but it was surprisingly comfortable and not cramped. Our waitress was great. We got the antipasto for an appetizer and it was wonderful, as was the bread. For dinner, my boyfriend and I tried two of the specials for the night: chicken lasagna and spaghetti with veal meatballs. Both were very bland. My lasagna lacked flavor and my boyfriend's spaghetti had practically no sauce. He never reaches for the salt, but he even salted his noodles. We were disappointed as we were hoping for a really good meal. It especially wasn't worth the $70 check, which included my glass of wine. The ambiance was upscale but not too uppity and the service was great, but unfortunately the meal fell flat. Maybe we just picked bad menu items but I won't be returning unless a friend raves about a dish they had there.
Wonderful meal with outstanding food. The service was excellent. We started with antipasti and wanted a small pasta course before our entrees, so our waiter divided an order of gnocchi between the four of us. It was amazing and just the right amount before our main course. I had Scalloppina di Vitello Pizzaiola (veal with fresh tomato sauce) which was incredible! Our waiter was Johan who was very attentive and did a great job with wine suggestions.
Great little hidden gem on the north side of Indianapolis!
When you walk in, you're immediately transformed to a classic Italian restaurant: dim lights, dark stained wood and old pictures of Italy across the walls. I sat in the bar where the chairs were like lounge chairs, there was a fireplace and a full bar with many seats.
I had the caprese salad and the spaghetti of the day with veal meatballs and a cream tomato sauce. Everything was delicious.
My only cons: the service was a bit slow. It seemed that they were understaffed at the time but this could be a pro if you're there to catch up with friends. Another con, the bar felt a little crammed. The chairs are oversized (which i love) but your chair will more than likely be up against someone else's chair and it was difficult for the waiters to walk in between tables.
This place is a little bit more on the expensive side but it was worth it. Plan for $30-40 per person.
Overall, i was very satisfied with this find and plan to go back!
This was third Christmas business dinner that my company has held at Capri. It was our last . The service was slow we arrived at 6 o’clock did not get our meal to almost 7:30 . We ordered two Old Fashions and they were lousy In fact one of them got sent back and replace with a glass of wine. The red pepper stuffed with chicken appetizer was rubbery and tasteless. Out of six people at the table only two of us finished our meal. The other four did not like their meal well enough to finish let alone box up and take home.
Very disappointed seeing how my employees worked so hard and I wanted to reward them with a nice meal at the Capri .
I sure hope this new ownership can turn this around if not I doubt they will be around long.
where do I begin ? the furnace was out but we were seated in the main DR, where it was 60 !
were never offered to be moved to the bar area where the fireplace was warming those in there.
mngr never apologized nor "comped" any of our meal. shame on them, embarrassing !!!!
when the furnace is not working, a rest. should be closed for the evening !!!!
Service was, as always, very good. Food was not. The place has declined since new ownership took over. Not much but noticeably. Our food was timely delivered but partially cold. Meat warm to hot. Potatoes and mixed vegetables stone cold. No apparent capital investment has been made. Furniture is literally threadbare. Capri has been a great locally owned restaurant for years. Please don’t let it slowly decline.
This was our first experience with Capri and we could not be more pleased. Food and service were both excellent and the location had a great ambiance. I was also impressed to see the owner coming around and personally greeting all of his guests. This is something that I do not see all that often anymore and it really made our meal special
We will definitely be back
My wife and I went to Capri for a regular dinner. We both had the chicken lasagna and it is outstanding. It is not on the regular menu but it is a frequent special. We love it and were so happy they were serving it that night. The portions are good sized and we both had some to take home and we enjoyed it the next day as well. This is one of our favorite Italian restaurants in the city.
We have been regulars at Capri for some time and have had good experiences since the recent change in ownership/management overall. This is the second time we have had the same server in the bar and while she tries hard the evenings have always seemed just out of synch.
We waited on each item excessively, Had to ask for bread twice, did not get water or appetizer plates initially. had to ask about the specials, were not asked the cooking temps for our steaks and ultimately our food was served barely warm and overcooked.
Hope this helps corrections as we certainly would like to continue coming to Capri
