The service was friendly and inviting. Will keep coming
Had Sunday brunch with my mother. It took 45 minutes to get our food once it was ordered. During the 45 minute wait I asked our server about the wait and she said that the wait time was normal. She also said our order was next to be platted. Ten minutes later when we got our food it was lukewarm. So I'm not impressed. I'm hoping that my experience with brunch was a one-off, as I've often had lunch at Cap Garage during the week and found the food and service to be great.
I can’t believe how bad the service was. I saw a friend that evening and she said the same thing. The staff was almost hostile. Forty minutes went by and we sat with only a glass of water.
I took my parents for Mother's Day. The item selection on the menu was decent. Mostly average fare, but there were a few exceptional items, such as the apricot pancakes. My father said those were divine! I had the avocado toast, which was good, but the scrambled eggs I ordered to go with it were very plain. The tomato slices that were the garnish were not ripe, so maybe they could have skipped those. My mother ordered an eggs benedict which looked like a photo shoot item. It was gorgeous, and she said it was delicious. The ham slices were quite thick though. My son ordered an omelette, and he said it was very plain. The mimosas were just okay. The coffee was very good!
We would still probably try it again, hoping for better food the next time, and maybe just not for a special occasion. Our waitress was fabulous. We tipped her nicely because she really was great.
Hands down the worst brunch experience I've ever had, and on Mother's Day. Food was terrible. Our waitress became angry and aggressive towards us after we asked to order another plate for my mom (her food was basically inedible). I happened to talk to someone else later in the evening who was there with their mom that day, and they also had a terrible experience. Shame, used to love this place.
When booking this restaurant I relied on their official website for all the detail. When I go to the restaurant the servers told me the website was very out of date. Everything was more expensive than what their website prices said. Be prepared to spend around $40-$50 if you are having dinner.
The food was good and the drag show was a great time. I just wish they had updated their website so the 9 people I brought wouldn’t be surprised when it was different then what they read online too.
Usually love CG, unique menu and lots of vegan offerings, but the service is consistently awfully slow. This last evening it took more than 30 mins for our appetizer (tots) and 45 minutes to get our three entrees. Disappointing. I like the food but I want the service to be so much better.
Yes for the Drag Queen entertainment but NO for the service, it was awful. The waitress delivered our food so late that by the time we got it it was cold. Then I asked her for a hot veggie fritters and she came back to say they ran out. After that she offered me something else but by then I declined, so I asked for coffee ( which was the worse tasting ever) and she asked if I wanted cream and sugar, I said yes, by the time she brought the cream/sugar my coffee was already cold. Then she completely forgot my boyfriends soda. When presented with the bill we were completely taken back. She told us there was a $5 p/person cover charge and 2 drink minimum p/person.
Really have to contemplate if I go there again.
On the other had the Drag Queen performance was great.
The food and presentation were incredible! Thank you for a great Easter Sunday brunch!
Very noisy music. Server never did bring the ketchup for the fries.
Glad we made reservations, walked into to a semi full house but were seated right away. Next thing I know, the entire place is filled with good reason! We were a party of 4, each of us tried something new and shared. No one, I mean no one was disappointed. Bottomless mimosas for 9.50, need I say more? Coming back!
Had a great time here with my friends Saturday night for dinner and drag!!! Night
Back at Capitol Garage for its "Dinner and a Drag Show." Mercury Rising was great - an amazing entertainer and the best dancer I've ever seen - Utterly engaging and totally fun! The service at the restaurant was perfect - The waiters and waitresses exceedingly friendly, the food great, the drinks excellent. The karaoke after the show was fun, with warm and engaging DJ's. It continues to be the best place in Sacramento to enjoy a Saturday evening.
We sat down at 5:25 and finally got our food at 6:15. It took forever.
I went back to Capitol Garage for its "Dinner and a Drag Show." Mercury Rising is an amazing entertainer and the best dancer I've ever seen (as well as utterly engaging and totally fun!). I'm always blown away by the service at the restaurant. The waiters and waitresses are exceedingly friendly, the food is great, the drinks excellent. The karaoke after the show is fun, supportive and lively, with warm and engaging DJ's. It's the most pleasant, welcoming and inviting place in Sacramento.
They were out of steak and turkey and it was 6pm. That was disappointing as I came for the steak salad. The server was super busy and not very attentive but the food is always good.
Service was outstanding and the food was great. The Philly steak sandwich was tender and cooked to perfection. The side of French fries seemed like an afterthought. We received a lot of small, short, and broken fries. So they were pieces rather than actual fries.
Spicy pork tacos & steak salad delicious. Quick service.
Great food people and experience as always!
Food was good but it was slow coming out of kitchen. The avocado toast was missing the mushrooms that were added on so waitress brought them on a plate after. It appeared they were only slightly sautéed. The cheese was not melted & 1 strip of bacon for both pieces of toast. The service was slow, but our waitress did make whip cream from scratch for our drink when they ran out.
Capitol Garage continues to dazzle with its "Dinner and a Drag Show" featuring Mercury Rising (an amazing entertainer and the best dancer I've ever seen). Service was great. All of the waiters and waitresses exceedingly friendly, the food was great, the drinks excellent. The karaoke after the show was super fun, with warm and engaging DJ. Most pleasant, welcoming and inviting place in Sacramento.
This place is super underrated. The food is always good. The staff is super friendly. Love it.

I loved this place for brunch after local races.
This time they were under staffed and when ingot my omelet it was cold and sad.
No bacon or cheese just uncooked spinach and some sorry looking old turkey .
I showed the bartender/waiter who took it back to kitchen
They threw shredded cheese on the cold omelet and voila it was back in front of me.
Bottomless mimosas are a nice option .
Maybe they think if you sloshed you wont care?
I left hungry and really bummed .
Gotta find a new brunch spot in sac.
Capitol Garage is essentially a bar with a grill. It is great for lunch. I don't think that I would necessarily recommend it for dinner, though I would not have an issue with going there again for dinner -- it just would not be my first choice.
Food service was extremely slow. Any sort of explanation would have gone a long ways. No apologies.
Loved the setting and ambiance ... the food not so much. My main issue was the cost - I spent $40 for tofu buffalo wing appetizer, a jalapeño salad, and a side salad with turkey and bacon and one soft drink . By contrast, we ate dinner just up the street at a seafood restaurant and had crab legs and shrimp with sides and 2 soft drinks. It was only $5 more ....
The food and drinks were great! Went for a mom's morning out for brunch on a Sunday. Drink we had was yummy. Sausage breakfast burger, quesadilla, and traditional eggs Benedict were our choices. Service was ok. We had a reservation, were seated within a minute. Only issue was when paying. I had a gift card to use first and we wanted to split the bill after, like she asked before running the gift card, but ran my card with the full remainder of the balance. Not a huge deal, but could have been avoided. I'd go back for the food, ambiance was okay.
The music was too loud to carry on a conversation, but the food and service were good.
Another wonderful meal. The tofu wings were so good and my portabello po boy was awesome as well. We had a wonderful meal for my partners birthday!
Fantastic Farm Fritters Appetizer followed by the Veggie Melt and Portabella Po Boy Sandwich that were also delicious, & thanks Vanessa N our helpful server!
Food and service were excellent
Arrived on time for 12:00 Brunch reservations. Did not get served breakfast until 1:15. Food arrived Luke warm.
The dinner was outstanding. I love when a restaurant caters to certain dietary needs. My vegan dish was delicious. Wonderful valentine ambiance. My partner and I had a great time.
Best deal in Sac! $25 for fine dining quality food on Valentines Day. Great staff. Awesome night!
The valentine's day special was amazing! Such a great value and delicious food! I will definitely becoming back!
Was very hood
Amazing food and great service, a little loud and a bit slow but totally worth it :)
They were VERY busy the night we were there (several large groups, including us). The service and food were great. It was a bit noisy, but that was our own fault. We had kids with us with dietary restrictions, and they were pleased with the selection. Would definitely go there again.
I was delighted to see that brunch reservations were available through Open Table. I've been coming to Capitol Garage for years- wither for a quick drink after work or for a boozy brunch with friends. This Sunday, I had a great time. Sat a the bar and had excellent service from Joey. He's worth the visit alone. He's a fun, personable, attentive bartender and service. He learned our names quickly and used them throughout the meal.
He double checked my food allergy and graciously checked in with the kitchen when I had a question about the breakfast taco special. OMG, the breakfast taco special!! Chorizo, guac, beans, deep-fried pickeled jalapenos and nacho cheese on a corn tortilla. Heaven on a plate! Joey's Bloody Mary's were marvelous as well.
All told, my friend and I had a wonderful brunch experience and will gladly use OpenTable to book Capitol Garage again.
