We’ve been here many times and have loved the food, atmosphere, and service, but this time was different. The food wasn’t good. The appetizer was way too spicy (to the point of making our noses run and coughing), I had to send my fish back as it was extremely salty. My husband said his rib-eye wasn’t good, and the dessert was just ok. As always the ambiance was beautiful and the staff very accommodating but it was disappointing as it was also our wedding anniversary.
We have been coming to this restaurant for years. The setting is beautiful. This week's menu however was a miss. None of the 4 of us had a memorable meal. The quality of the short ribs was not good and the mashed potatoes were dry. The salad was nice but the dressing was so bland that there was little flavor. The desserts were unspectacular as well. The service left much to be desired. Our waiter must have been a new hire - he was very inexperienced. He forgot our wine and couldn't answer questions about the wine or the menu. They changed the menu to placemat style which we didn't like at all. The layout was confusing and made us feel like we were eating in a diner as opposed to an upscale prix-fixe restaurant. All this said, Canyon Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants, but something was certainly off this week.
This restaurant is quite an experience. The setting is probably the prettiest place I have ever eaten. The service is unbelievable . It is a 4 course meal so it does take awhile. But It is well worth it.
We were really looking forward to a special meal at this restaurant especially at this $100 per person price point (with grat. and 1 beer). Honestly the food was so-so. The soup was great. I had the ravioli first course and my husband had the sausage offering. Marginal at best. The entree not very hot (we both had the short ribs) and was kind of fatty. Here's my bottom line: The ingredients were creative and the presentation was pretty. I know this is "gourmet type" food but the portions were ridiculously small. I'd say 1/3 cup of the soup. I could literally eat the sausage in 1 normal bite. Their was enough of the ribs meat but there was literally 1/4 cup of greens and about 1/3 cup of potatoes. The biggest joke was the (I am not kidding here)1 tablespoon of ice cream with the bland deserts.
Glad we went but never again.
On the way to dinner last Saturday, my party had a serious discussion as to whether Canyon Kitchen is our favorite restaurant in the USA. We concluded that it is. The combination of food, service, location and ambiance is unbeatable. Go early and drink in the beauty of the valley and stay late to sit in front of the outside fireplace. You will become a fan too.
This place is simply amazing! Food, fire and beautiful. A must.
Canyon Kitchen is my all time favorite. The views, food, service, everything is top of the line!
This was a huge disappointment... The restaurant and setting is absolutely amazing, feels like being in Telluride CO at an upscale resort. Drinks before dinner on open patio area to backdrop of mountains and valley was the highlight- nice selection of higher end bourbon to choose from. The meal... disappointing for all three of us and we all ordered different items- the only thing we all agreed upon was that the soup was delicious. The starters- a tough ravioli and sausage dish were not good. The mains- my duck was overcooked and cold, short ribs were fatty and also not warm enough, and fried catfish for $68 well it was just fried catfish... Desserts were awful- cheese plate, banana peanut butter dish, and a caramel pie- presentation off and too sweet. For the three of us over $400 on a lack luster dining experience. Canyon Kitchen we are hoping you can do better in the future.
Canyon Kitchen is a very beautiful place. It is recommended to allow time before dinner to enjoy a drink outdoors, and that was excellent advice. Good wine was available. Food was creative with seasonal flair. The catfish entree was very good. My husband's shortrib entree was not the fall- off -the -bone style that he enjoys and had no sauce. The chocolate cake with pumpkin sauce was just ok. Since I love both flavors, I expected to love it, but cake was somewhat dry. Banana dessert was excellent. A special Happy Anniversary plate with small filled cakes was appreciated. Overall we enjoyed it, and we'll try it again. It would be an outstanding place to go during peak leaf change.
Always one of our mountain favorites! We were a little reluctant to bring a toddler but the attentive staff went out of their way to be helpful and accommodating! This place is absolutely worth the drive!!
As usual, the entire evening was fantastic. The mountain setting, patio bar and adirondack chairs on the meadow (with a beautiful view of the mountains) where you can sit and sip your pre-dinner cocktail sets the stage for the rest of the evening. The pork chop option was fantastic, as was the lamb, and the interior ambiance was perfectly lovely. Favorite restaurant!
Wonderful experience for our 25th wedding anniversary. Perfect all around!
Fantastic food and setting
I am in love with this restaurant! It was perfect for our date and I plan on returning very soon!
This absolutely stunning location (as close as you can get to fine dining in Yosemite valley on the eastern half of the country) is beautifully complemented by a gorgeous mountain restaurant. Service could not be better, with lots of happy, friendly, smiling faces everywhere you look. I have to admit that the food, though good, paled in comparison to the environment and staff, and unfortunately was not deserving of the exorbitant prices. I was with a family group and was able to taste much of the menu, and some was spectacular (the fried chicken entree, the fried oysters, all the desserts), and some was quite flat (the trout for instance). Yes, I'll come back, though I'll have to be sure to save for a while first, and I'll have to pick my food more carefully.
The food is so gourmet that sometimes the food combinations aren't that great. Some things were very good and some okay. The overall experience is worth a trip there for a special occasion, but wish the food was a bit more dependable as far as taste. Presentation is beautiful. Service this time was a little sub par to what you would expect. It was always good before though.
We always enjoy our dinners at Canyon Kitchen. There is not a bad seat in the entire restaurant. The staff are super present and that always makes for a memorable experience.
And did I mention the food is great too...
From Beginning to the End... Simply Amazing.
Hands Down BEST Restaurant on the Mountain
This is one of my favorite restaurants. However our meal one was Duck and the other Pork was not up to their standards. The meat was very tough.
Awesome food. Very tasty and beautiful presentation. Love the large fireplace and dinning area.
$68.00 a person plus cocktails.
So many fabulous flavors and a very relaxing evening.
Always delivers! Creative menu, thoughtful wine selections.
This is our fifth vacation visit to Country Kitchen to celebrate birthdays. The food is healthy, well prepared and the presentation so appealing. The service was exceptional. Taylor, friendly and attentive, gave us outstanding attention. The views of the surrounding mountains are breathtaking. Highly recommend for a unique and delicious dinner. Make reservations well in advance.
CC never disappoints. Every detail impeccable. Go an hour ahead of your reservation to have a cocktail and take in the beautiful setting
Finest dining in four states. Go visit stay enjoy.
Occasion was my wife's birthday. This was our second time at Canyon Kitchen and, while the food was OK, it was unremarkable for what we paid. Duck was described as smoked for 6 hours then finished with a crispy skin but not the case. My wife's rib eye was tough. The first time we visited Canyon Kitchen, everything was phenomenal and we were looking forward to our second time but, while you can't beat the ambiance, food was below expectations considering the >$100 per person cost.
Canyon Kitchen is our favorite restaurant. The food and scenery cannot be beat in the North Carolina mountains. We dine here whenever special friends come to town.
Everything about Canyon Kitchen was perfect. The indoor/outdoor (huge doors that open) experience made it so comfortable. The views are spectacular. Service was excellent as was our meals. We each chose a different entrée and loved them all. If you cannot get a reservation wait a few days and try again. Some opened up and we were thrilled to be able to enjoy such a beautiful setting & meal.
Excellent! Truly a wonderful culinary experience! The service was outstanding!
This may be my new favorite restaurant! Arrive early for cocktails in the garden. It was so beautiful and food was creative and delicious. Well-priced as well! Can't wait to go back.
Our first visit, highly anticipated, was a little bit of a let down. The outdoor scenery is beautiful, though candles on the garden tables to repel the (too many) yellow jackets and bugs would be a good investment.
The cocktails and bar were very good and I can understand why folks come just for the scenery and drinks.
Dinner was a mixed bag. Three of us selected the oysters for our appetizer. It was a cold tasteless mess that didn't inspire good - let alone great - dining. Our fourth had the quail and that dish was very well done. For entrees, three did the ribeye that was fine, but nothing remarkable. The fourth opted for the snapper which, while good, needed more seasoning.
We did the wine pairing and we're happy with the wines we tasted. The desserts were very good.
We'll go back, but it won't become a regular stop (like Table 64, Paoletti's, Wolfgangs, etc.) unless the consistency improves.
Went there with friends and CK did not disappoint. Had a drink outside when we arrived and were seated promptly at our reservation time of 7:30. Wait staff was attentive and up to speed on that night’s menu. Presentation of food was wonderful and it tasted even better than it looked. Overall great night and we’ll be going back again soon!
We are long time Cashiers seasonal residents and enjoy taking friends to unique restaurants for a, "different", dining experience. The Frog and Owl on Buck Creek Rd was our favorite for years until they closed. Canyon Kitchen has filled the void nicely. The service is always outstanding, the food, very good to outstanding, and the setting is unmatched. Friday, August 12, was no exception. Our salad course was fantastic and we could have eaten a bucket full of it. Three of us chose the quail appetizer and were disappointed for different reasons. In my case I thought it was very dry, but the accompanying country ham grits saved the dish. Again, three of us had the ribeye entree and all of us commented that the meat, while tasty, was tough and we could have used a steak knife rather than the standard diner knife. We all enjoyed our desserts. Our waitress, Kayla, was outstanding. She was always there when we needed her, but was never there when we didn't. She served us with a smile and a cheerful demeanor. She was a real pleasure. we will be back and already made our next reservation.
We try to visit Cashiers for a long weekend every summer. Canyon Kitchen is always our first choice for dinner. The food is outstanding and so creative. We loved every part of the meal: the salad, appetizers, entree and the dessert. The wines we tasted were also delicious.
Highly recommend this beautiful spot for dinner.
First time visit...sorry that it has taken us this long to dine there...setting was amazing...food excellent....service attentive...table was ours for the evening...so relaxing and enjoyable.
We have dinned at Canyon Kitchen several times over the last few years. There is no prettier setting anywhere I know of. The service is always top notch. On the negative side we all felt that the food, although good, was not up to the amount of the bill. We could have gone to any number of restaurants in Cashiers or Highlands and had a comparable meal for half or less than half of the price.
Canyon Kitchen is one of my favorite places to dine. The atmosphere is gorgeous and views of the mountains are spectacular. I recommend the wine pairing option you will not be disappointed !
Food is excellent, service also. Views are wonderful.
We have booked this restaurant for our Daughter's wedding net Spring. The food is always consistently delicious. The atmosphere is very relaxing. The setting is magically beautiful. It is always a special meal when we get to dine at Canyon Kitchen.
This is one of our favorite restaurants. It has "hands down" one of the best views and ambiance that you could ask for in the mountains or anywhere for that matter. If you aren't into creative cuisine, then this might not be for you; however, we can't say enough about this restaurant. Farm to table delicacies and creative cocktails that can't be beat!
