Cantina Laredo - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
We went at 5:30 on a Friday, with three adults and two children. One side of the restaurant was busier with people out for happy hour, but we were seated in a quieter section. The kids menus were great, along with the conversation questions for the kids to read. Nice plastic cups for the kids, too.
The grown up food was really good, and the service was excellent. We also had the guacamole, which is made at the table on a cart to your specifications. We got it mild, which my wife loved, but I would have preferred medium, I think. It was a let down compared to the rest of the food, and the presentation of the process. But again, I think it’s just because it’s hard to make a guacamole everyone will agree is the best, since my wife did love it.
It seemed like a good happy hour tapas or lighter dinner place, but I appreciated that they took care of a family slogging in, too. Thanks!
Solid reasonably priced well-crafted Mexican food with good ingredients and well chosen menu. Nice atmosphere but a little too loud. TVs in the dinning rooms are unnecessary and detract from the atmosphere for this kind of place. Nothing was too innovative about the food, but all was well-prepared. I would certainly return. Saw that they had a daily lunch special but would like if they had 2-4 choices at that $7.99 price which would make it a "regular go to" lunch spot.
This is probably my fourth time eating at Cantina Laredo. Overall it's always a good experience. The server was very nice and prompt. However the mole enchiladas were a little dry maybe a little sauce and it would've been better. My family loved the drinks! This restaurant doesn't cheap out on alcohol. I hate paying for drinks that are watered down. Also the people who help with the water and plates should learn to greet the table. They came out out before the server and we didn't know who the server was at first and left a bad impression on my mom because no one said anything. Once the server came it everything was fine. Please always greet the table and communicate to your guests.
I met a good friend at Catina Laredo for a lunch date while she was passing through town. We were seated immediately. The waitress was patient with us while we chatted instead of ordering, and our food arrived unbelievably fast. I had the fajita chicken tacos; she enjoyed the carnitas tacos. Everything was excellent!! I highly recommend Cantina Laredo for your next get-together! I will certainly be returning.
The team was very patient as we were the last of 2 tables in the restaurant and they were shutting down shop. I am in the industry and hate the people we were actually being, but it was my brother who I haven't seen in forever and we were catching up until we saw certain lights turn off. Would like to extend and extra appreciation for them allowing us the time we did take.
Second time here and did not disappoint. Table side guacamole is a must. Super fresh ingredients and choice of mild, medium or hot. I had the Chicken Enchiladas Mole with black beans and rice. Yum. My wife had the Steak Enchiladas which she said were delicious and my daughter had the Fish Tacos with fresh salad like toppings. She loved it. Only improvement would be the servers personality could be a little more engaging. But maybe she was new. That won’t stop me from coming back!
Ambience is nice but I was not impressed with the food - the tomato rice was dry, the beans were mediocre and the mole enchiladas had way too much cheese. Definitely could tell this is a chain restaurant due to their lack of quality. When you open a Mexican restaurant in a town with many many excellent and authentic Mexican restaurants, your food must stand out and be amazing. Not sure how they survive in a high rent area - maybe they draw in the tourists with the pretty building & interior. However, we went on a weekday night & it was pretty dead inside. Disappointing.
Pleasantly surprised with this find! Was in Chicago for business and wanted an easy dinner after a long day of meetings. Stumbled across this restaurant, no wait on a Friday night, very large seating area for groups or intimate dates. Menu had a great assortment of traditional Mexican dishes and creative twists on classic favorites. The hotter salsa at the table was DELICIOUS! Table side guac is a must! Drinks were great, food arrived very quickly! Very affordable dinner that feels like a high-end trendier restaurant without the price or small plates. Will be back!
Only 1 person in our group of 7 enjoyed their meal. They had the chicken quesadillas. I ordered the steak tacos & the meat was cooked too rare for my tastes & not tender or flavorful. The chicken enchiladas were described by my friend as tasting "doughy" and lacked flavor. Overall it was disappointing, however our server was very nice & the drinks were tasty.
The location and interior of the restaurant are great but everything else was disappointing. Our server clearly did not want to be there. Very unfriendly and didn't listen. After taking our order, we knew it wasn't coming out right which it didn't. We could then see him texting while at the bar. The salsas were very good and the best part of the meal. The actual food was very bland which for a Mexican restaurant is very odd. The margarita's were delicious. I can only recommend drinks and appetizers.
Ordered chicken soup appetizer which was great.Served within 2 minutes. Entree was served within 10 minutes thereafter.Hadnt finished soup.
This was at 6:45 at night.Dont order dinner and appetizers at same time.
Flour tortillas with fajitas were OK but have had a lot better
Nice room and decor
Everything was great. The only drawback was that the restaurant was freezing. I’m not sure if they had some sort of airflow issues from the front of the restaurant or that the heating/cooling system was acting up but it was rather chilly and to top it off, we were seated next to the fireplace.
