Cantina 1511 - Park Road Shopping Center Ratings and Reviews
I am from Texas and I will say this is the best Mexican food I have had while living in NC. However it does not compare to restaurants back home. Very bland in my opinion. Decor was fun and margarita was good. Also host sat us right next to another party when the whole place was empty and did not ask if we wanted to sit outside. Only marked down on service because we had to ask for another table.
Waitress, Angel, was terrible. 2 of the 3 meals were delivered cold and then both came out at different times so all 3 of us were essentially eating by ourselves. Special occasion, husband’s birthday, was noted on open table as well as to server and absolutely nothing. Poor choice on my part.
Mexican restaurant for brunch? I would have agreed but we’ve been here many times for brunch and have never been disappointed until today. We waited 35 minutes for French toast that arrived cold and soggy. The bacon was essentially fat burned to a crisp. The coffee tasted like day-old swill. Time to mark this restaurant off our Go-To list. The manager did offer to prepare something else but after spending an hour in the restaurant, we were ready to go.
As always, Cantina 1511 was superb! Always very good service and wonderful food. The last several times I have gone I ordered the Ancho Shrimp Cobb salad. The shrimp are probably the best I have eaten in a long time. Grilled. I ask for the dressing on the side and rarely use much of it.
When we arrived, we were seated immediately, even though we were a few minutes early. Our server said they had been slammed earlier because they were short-handed on servers. But our food & drinks all arrived in good time - everything was very good, as usual. Our server was delightful & knowledgeable.
Our waiter took drink orders and then did not return for our food order for some time. Two of us ordered cups of soup and a shared order of nachos as our entree. I was clear about this but waiter delivered both together. Neither was piping hot so had obviously been sitting in kitchen for some time. Nobody likes soggy nachos. The other party ordered fajitas and they were fine but her request for extra quacamole never showed up. Have eaten here many times before but this was very disappointing.
While our waitress was super friendly, she must have been slammed with too many tables because the service and attentiveness was lacking. It took forever to get a drink order and food order in. The air conditioning in the building was broken and it was extremely unpleasant in the restaurant. The food was fine, no complaints there. I ordered a beer from the menu and was told 10 minutes later that they no longer offer that particular beer on tap. It seems like they have a lot of stuff to improve on. Probably won't be back anytime soon.
Food was fantastic. Appreciated the service we received from the waitress. However it appears that one waiter had his younger daughter (about 5 or 6 years old) at one of the booths in his section who was playing games on a handheld device with the sound up high. Due to the open layout of the restaurant it is already quite noisy, but gaming noise is something else entirely on top of it. It was hard to have conversation with that going on. I am surprised management allowed an employee to bring their child to work.
With that aside the meal was very good and our service was great.
We were on a date and loved the drinks and food. However, it is definitely more of a family place. We left our kids with a sitter and we were surrounded. Literally every table in the restaurant had kids screaming. Wasn't quite the date we wanted but enjoyed it nonetheless. Definitely get a margarita and the guacamole! -- they also did not notice the note details we requested in making the reservation with was frustrating.
