Beautiful courtyard setting that was marred by squealing heaters, whining children and a very loud talker at a table placed very close - her husband cheated on her and she was not afraid to share. The restaurant was basically empty but the noise was distracting and annoying.
The menu was was underwhelming and there were no specials or additions. No sparkling wine by the glass and a poor beer selection.
The server was lovely enough but had limited knowledge of the menu and did not bring a steak knife for my husband’s lukewarm steak. That said, my salmon was delicious; I enjoyed every bite.
Overall the price was steep for a meal that we were happy to finish and leave, not to return.
Easy to make reservations and we even arrived a bit early and was seated right away. We came for the preset Valentine meal. Delicious and a wonderful choice of food. The ambiance on the patio is wonderful and beautiful lighting. The stray cats surprised me at first then I got used to them and seemed fine. Service was a bit slow. There were a few times no one seemed to pay attention to us. Also the music had some kind of loud whistle sound going on for awhile which was annoying. But overall definitely a beautiful setting and will surely come for a meal or appetizers again.
Food and Service were excellent. I had a fish dish with scallops.
The service was extremely disappointing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a staff so careless. We waited over an hour and 45 minutes to get our food and it arrived cold and far from worth the wait. They apologized but it followed with a very weak excuse. If there was ownership I would be ok but there was none. I would never go back.
My wife and I, made reservations for her Birthday, only to find out that there was a private wine tasting. Hostest did not apologize only told us we can sit at the bar by the lobby. Unfortunately, we did not get to experience Cantala.
No service whatsoever. Very poorly managed.
Had a reservation for NYE for a group of 6. We were promptly seated outside with no heater despite every other table having 2 heaters. We asked the hostess, we asked bus boys, we asked anyone that worked there for heat since it was pretty chilly that night. Everyone said they would look in to it. Eventually we were told that we had to wait for another table to finish eating and that they would bring a heater over. So an hour later we finally got a heater that died 15 minutes later and again we couldn't get a replacement tank.
When we arrived all we got was bread and water. 20 minutes later without seeing our server we asked one of the bus boys for our server. They came back and said that the server was busy and asked them to cover for him. She took our order and drinks and did a great job. Eventually our food showed up (which was delicious), but by that point I just wanted to get out of there.
Excellent service, attentive staff, good food and reasonably priced, okay ambience. Love the hotel design and decor.
Christmas dinner 2017 was a bit dissapointing. Overbooked and understaffed. Main dish was sold out (lamb), and we got salmon (which was good) and steak (too well done) in stead. Also sparkling wine was sold out (!?), except for a cheap spanish option which they tried to pour us as if it were mumm napa (hiding the etiquette). Poor waiter was busy serving many tables, and made mistakes with our bill. At the end the dinner was ok value for money after complaining about the bill, but didn't meet the ezpectations for a pre-booked christmas dinner.
The chicken was perfectly cooked - tender and juicy and served with roasted Brussel sprouts!
Our waitress was the best and very attentive.
DK was an awesome waiter. The food was excellent. The ambiance was relaxing and quiet. It would have been nice to have some soft music in the background. I was surprised to see a dog in the restaurant and then a hotel cat, but they weren't really bothersome.
Great birthday dinner for my man.
The host did not show my reservation but it wasn't an issue as we were the only couple in the restaurant for about 45 minutes, when a 2nd couple arrived. The menu has changed from Italian centric to more generic with a steak house focus, but the pasta was excellent nonetheless. Service was friendly.
We stayed at The Riviera and tried their new fine dining restaurant. We have stayed there several times and loved the previous restaurant, Circa 50-something.....
The new Cantala looks the same, albeit not as clean and tidy. The menu, at first glance, looks like a fine selection of California cuisine. The product is unimaginative at best, however. My husband's pork chop was grossly undercooked (oozing blood around the bone) and, when pointed out to the waiter, he made no effort to send it back and/or replace it. Never mind crediting anything on the tab! Overall, it was a disappointment and, given all the choices in PS, we would not return.
Service was horrid ... no greeter, no water and when we complained the menu was incomplete... because the featured "then & now" menu referring to Sinatra's favorites was not present --- the waiter said they need to update that ... offered no apology OR personality to offset their gaffe.... and then served the most grisly steak I have had in years. Run don't walk away from the awlful place.
DK was our server and he was WONDERFUL! I loved the food, service and decor. I will be back!
Our experience was great. The food was top notch, service was excellent, and the people watching at the pool was very entertaining! We will definitely be back.
Wonderful, imaginative preparation of classic Italian dishes served in a suitably contemporary setting. Portions are quite large, so I suggest sharing dishes or be prepared for take home bags.
We eat here every time we're in Palm Springs. Always a great meal. DK is our favorite waiter. Friendly and knowledgeable.
My boyfriend and I stayed at the resort for his birthday and made reservations for Saturday at 7:30, which is when we arrived. I was very excited about this place after seeing all the photos of the patio and the menu online. Despite the restaurant being largely empty, we were told we should come back later so the servers could catch up. We came back at 8, and were told we "might want to wait a little longer." We were finally seated around 8:15. We had the Tuna Crudo as an appetizer, which tasted a little fishier than it should've. We had the Brussels sprouts, which were rather bland. Even more bland was the Saffron Tagliatelle. It was surprisingly tasteless, even after adding a generous amount of salt and pepper. I pretty much stopped eating it because it wasn't worth the calories! The pizza and the Mac n cheese that came with the chicken were very good and the best thing about dinner. Overall, I wish we would've eaten somewhere downtown. The experience was just disappointing for what we paid and expected.

The decor is cute and the staff is friendly. The food is expensive and it's nothing spectacular. The cocktail cost me $18.00 and it was awful.
We were disappointed, first by the fact that we were looking for Cantala's predecessor, Circa 59. Nowhere on any of the sites we reviewed did we learn that Circa 59 is no more, but is now Cantala. So the next disappointment was the menu we expected to find, but didn't. Cantala's menu is rather limited. Two bright spots - a descent-sized pour of wine, and an excellent Caesar salad. The pork meatball appetizer and the mushroom pizza were ok. The sausage and broccoli rabe pasta was described as having a pesto sauce, but I found no trace of pesto - just a good half cup of olive oil in the bottom of the dish. The service was, to say the least, "unhurried."
They have a beautiful patio with a romantic atmosphere for a date. The food was good, service was excellent and the restaurant is reasonably priced for a very nice experience.
I remember in past years the food being excellent, it was not. I love this restaurant for the outdoor fire pit experience, instead they sat us indoors with an ugly plastic tarp pulled down to look at instead of the lovely pool/outdoor where we preferred to sit. Made reservation a long time in advance yet others had priority to sit outside. Pizza ordered was tasteless, my brothers $48 steak was way over cooked. My sisters pasta was suppose to have shrimp and scallops - not one scallop and mostly tomatoes, and LAST but NOT LEAST the RED wine was served COLD. We inquired about it and they said they keep their red wines at 64 degrees - $12 glasses of wine was well colder than 64 degrees and not enjoyable to drink what-so-ever. I saved coming here for a special BD occasion while here for 2 months - the place is remodeled and I wonder if they have an overhaul of entire restaurant too?
The restaurant has recently opened where Cirque59 was. We ordered the calamari for the group as it sounded interesting, however it smelled burned. The reason is that the onions were cut too thin and we're not coated like the rest of the dish. It was also under seasoned and the capers were all at the bottom. We all ordered the well dressed Caesar salad. Chopped leaves were dressed with an anchovy based dressing but this too lacked seasoning and we couldn't taste any garlic salt or pepper. Add-ons were in small containers located around the plate, which was a nice touch. We then waited for 1/2 hour before out plates were cleared and another 15 to 20 minutes for our entrees. We all generally liked our entrees, but again no seasoning. The chicken Milanese was done well - no seasoning again - and the rocket and fennel salad that accompanied the dish was outstanding and should be a stand alone salad choice. The pastas were a bit above average, and the branzino while good was way over salted. No dessert as it was already 2:45 hours into this meal. Service needs work, tweaking of the menu to check for seasoning should be standard, and the wine list is limited (but some nice choices). Since this relatively new, may try again after a period of time.
Very good food for the price. Waiters and hostess very nice and caring. I would suggest a bit larger menu. Otherwise I very much enjoyed the dinner.
Food was so uninspired and completely mediocre, we felt annoyed after eating here.
We remembered this restaurant in the Riviera from a previous visit and really enjoyed it. Don't like the new décor as much and the menu is not as inventive. The food was good, in any case. The place was freezing, rare in Palm Springs, but it was winter. They insisted on keeping some door open, so the place never warmed. All the patrons and even the wait staff were wearing coats to stay warm. That should have been a clue to do something about the temperature. We did complain, but it never did warm. I don't think we will be going back.
Very poor won't be back. Used to be a good place . Ordered a side of "creamy polenta" was given cornbread similar to Jiffy. Both main courses overcooked . The best feature has always been the outdoor setting, have enjoyed it many times, since the remodel the heaters have been removed which made the outdoors essentially not usable
The remodel was impressive, but the dining experience was not as good as before the remodel. I reserved an indoor table but was seated outside? My red wine was served at room temp and in Palm Springs 80 degree wine is totally unsatisfactory.. Our server was personable and was attentive to our needs. The food was average with a piece of meat/fish and a vegetable on the side. Our Pellsgrino was not put on ice and the server took the cap leaving it to go flat. Finally the bill was incorrect which our server fixed although it took him 2 try's to get it right. I'll give it one more try and update my review after that.
