Horrible experience. I would not eat here again, and do not recommend this restaurant. We often stay at the Riviera but had never eaten dinner at the restaurant. The food was good, but the service was horrible. Took forever for our entree to come out and our waitress disappeared and never returned, even after we asked 3 separate people to go get her so we could order more drinks. The manager was apologetic and professional. Very disappointing.
What a disappointment not anymore what it used to be. Very limited menu on a piece of dirty paper. Waiter did not know what he was doing except chit chatting with the other waitresses in the back. The food was ok but not for that price point. This time we rented a house but coming back in August and had a reservation at the Rivera hotel. I will cancel that since I’m scared now the hotel is gotten as bad as the restaurant
We had my bachelorette party dinner here and it was amazing! Everyone kept saying it was the perfect spot.
There was not much consistency with service or food quality. My husbands meal was excellent and mine was awful. Several friends actually felt quite ill after eating. While our staff was friendly he seemed run off his feet so wasn't able to give great service and forgot a few things...perhaps they were under staffed. The room itself was nice and the hotel is lovely.
This is yet another lovely dining spots within Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley. Though arriving vrey late for our reservation, the staff was quite pleasant throughtful. it’s a great addiition to Palm Sorings📈
Outstanding service, super friendly staff, they specifically acknowledged us as locals and thanked us for our patronage. The food was all excellent, truly a great meal and an overall amazing experience. We will definitely be back again and again !!!
This was a business trip and the conference was being held on-site. Because we came in a day early, we decided to try the Cantala despite the reviews. That was a poor decision. It took nearly an hour for our steaks (there were four of us) to be delivered to the table and was brought out by the manager that apologized for the wait and promised that the steaks were cooked to perfection and worth the wait. Well... three of the four plates were in correct and/or missing items. One steak, that was ordered as medium was so over cooked that it could hardly be sliced and another ordered a filet but received a flat iron cut which was not eaten. That manager that made the promise never came back to the table and the unbeaten steak was cleared without question as to why it was not eaten and of course we were charged for all four steaks. The server did comp the $11 appetizer vs. the $27 uneaten steak.
Would not recommend eating here. It’s worrh the Uber / Lyft to go find something different. Even if only a McDonalds.
Cantata is quite possibly the best patio in Palm Springs. It is beautifully decorated with perfect lighting for dinner. The food and drinks are really well done and the service was great. Whenever we are in Palm Springs we make sure to go for dinner.
Good food, great service. Loved the outside ambiance.
Outside patio was really dirty covered in dead leaves and stains on tiles. Moved to inside which was very quiet and pleasant. Server was very inexperienced but tried hard and always had a smile. Wine was reasonably priced and served cold with an ice bucket. Salad was excellent. Main. Course fish and chips were not so good. Soggy undercooked fries. Nice batter on the fish but the fish itself was mushy- probably frozen, and little flavour. Dessert was nothing special.
The restaurant was nice but service and food were just ok . There were items that were forgotten and I had to almost walk in the kitchen to find someone to bring out the rest of our order. I waited at our table for so long and didn’t see our waitress or another employee so I went in search of someone.
Also, we had an incident with a spilled glass of water and the waitress that brought us additional napkins didn’t remove the huge pile of napkins we had used up that were in the center of the table or offer any assistance with all the wet table mats we were holding in our hands.
We will not be returning.
Honestly, this is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at and I’m 68 years old who considers herself a gourmand of sorts with discerning taste for quality food and creative presentation. My husband and I ate here twice — dinner on food Friday and then easter dinner. I ordered the braised short ribs on Good Friday and quite frankly, I’ve never had better— the meat just fell off the bone. My husband has the oven roasted pork t-bone which he said was moist and cooked to perfection. On easter, I had the Caesar salad with chicken — the dressing was amazing!! My husband decided on the pappardelle with chicken and he said it was just fabulous— almost too much to eat the portion was so large.
The kitchen was very slow tonight. We waited an hour for a pizza. Our server was very polite and did keep us informed to the best of his abilities. Still and hour and a half for everyone to be served was excessive.
We took another couple to dinner here and enjoyed meeting the manager. The food we ordered for 3 of the 4 of us was quite good however the service was extremely slow and our waitperson pretty much neglected us the entire evening. The 4th meal was totally incorrect and when sent back, all they changed was one of the sides - still the wrong entree. It might not have been so bad had we been served in a timely manner but it took well over an hour after having our salads to get our entrees. Thankfully the manager came by and apologized but the server never really apologized and we are not sure where the foul up occurred. We will go back and give it another try maybe with a different server.
We had a family group of 11, everyone enjoyed the delicious food. Lovely space, great value, great service. Loved it.
Super cute space inside the hotel. The servers were nice, just absolutely forgetful or something...they had to be asked twice for the menus for kids, 3 times for the bread they offered us, 2 times for the glass of wine I ordered (I ordered a cocktail first but didn't drink it as it tasted like just soda water - I didn't want to give them another reason to give poor service so didn't say anything and just ordered a glass of wine instead). The food was fine - nothing impressive - crab cakes were super salty and the one of the kids ordered salmon, which she usually loves, but wouldn't eat it (she said it tasted "farm raised" so that may just be a picky/specific palate). The kids meals came with ice cream sundaes but they took forever to arrive (but they did look amazing!). I would understand if the restaurant was busy, but there were several empty tables.
Nice enough staff, just seemed like maybe they were all new or just not that on it that night!
Menu was limited and then wrong entree served to my husband . So in lieu of dining together my husband watched me eat, then I watched him. And for this the waitress proudly announced that she didn’t charge us for the bottle of water we drank. !!!!! (Charged for wine and food though)
My advice—-Have a drink in the bar and then head out for dinner.
Tried the restaurant 1959 dinner special and the bbq ribs were quite tasty. Service was a little off, but nothing that got in the way of having a good time. The value of the meal was excellent.
Good food, good service.
Hi we were there for a nice evening dinner, the waiter was very quick right on top of things at first and the soup was wonderful but we had to wait an hour for our main entrée and by the time it came we were so full of bread that we could not eat our meal. They had a large table and served the large table 1st because we had ordered soup. They were very apologetic and gave us a free dessert so they were very nice. The fillet was good but not great, the mashed potatoes were awesome!
Had a very enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend this place.
We had the private dining room. The heat was not on in the room, and the music system wasn’t working, so we played some music on a friend’s iPhone. They sat us next to a door that didn’t seal, so it was very cold. We asked to be moved, and they accommodated is by moving us away from the draft. We finally just turned on the heat ourselves, and it was fine after about 20 minutes. Overall, the experience felt a little clunky and sad. Not a good way to wrap up our trip to Palm Springs.
The food has improved from our last visit. They have a new menu compared to our prior visits and we were pleased with the quality and flavor of the meal. Our server was a bit slow getting our first round of cocktails - as if she had forgotten about us. Overall the service could have been better, especially considering it wasn't overly busy. We do like the ambiance here, especially on the patio. Now that the food is improved, we will be back.
It was a real disappointment!!
Beautiful courtyard setting that was marred by squealing heaters, whining children and a very loud talker at a table placed very close - her husband cheated on her and she was not afraid to share. The restaurant was basically empty but the noise was distracting and annoying.
The menu was was underwhelming and there were no specials or additions. No sparkling wine by the glass and a poor beer selection.
The server was lovely enough but had limited knowledge of the menu and did not bring a steak knife for my husband’s lukewarm steak. That said, my salmon was delicious; I enjoyed every bite.
Overall the price was steep for a meal that we were happy to finish and leave, not to return.
Easy to make reservations and we even arrived a bit early and was seated right away. We came for the preset Valentine meal. Delicious and a wonderful choice of food. The ambiance on the patio is wonderful and beautiful lighting. The stray cats surprised me at first then I got used to them and seemed fine. Service was a bit slow. There were a few times no one seemed to pay attention to us. Also the music had some kind of loud whistle sound going on for awhile which was annoying. But overall definitely a beautiful setting and will surely come for a meal or appetizers again.
Food and Service were excellent. I had a fish dish with scallops.
The service was extremely disappointing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a staff so careless. We waited over an hour and 45 minutes to get our food and it arrived cold and far from worth the wait. They apologized but it followed with a very weak excuse. If there was ownership I would be ok but there was none. I would never go back.
My wife and I, made reservations for her Birthday, only to find out that there was a private wine tasting. Hostest did not apologize only told us we can sit at the bar by the lobby. Unfortunately, we did not get to experience Cantala.
No service whatsoever. Very poorly managed.
Had a reservation for NYE for a group of 6. We were promptly seated outside with no heater despite every other table having 2 heaters. We asked the hostess, we asked bus boys, we asked anyone that worked there for heat since it was pretty chilly that night. Everyone said they would look in to it. Eventually we were told that we had to wait for another table to finish eating and that they would bring a heater over. So an hour later we finally got a heater that died 15 minutes later and again we couldn't get a replacement tank.
When we arrived all we got was bread and water. 20 minutes later without seeing our server we asked one of the bus boys for our server. They came back and said that the server was busy and asked them to cover for him. She took our order and drinks and did a great job. Eventually our food showed up (which was delicious), but by that point I just wanted to get out of there.
Excellent service, attentive staff, good food and reasonably priced, okay ambience. Love the hotel design and decor.
Christmas dinner 2017 was a bit dissapointing. Overbooked and understaffed. Main dish was sold out (lamb), and we got salmon (which was good) and steak (too well done) in stead. Also sparkling wine was sold out (!?), except for a cheap spanish option which they tried to pour us as if it were mumm napa (hiding the etiquette). Poor waiter was busy serving many tables, and made mistakes with our bill. At the end the dinner was ok value for money after complaining about the bill, but didn't meet the ezpectations for a pre-booked christmas dinner.
The chicken was perfectly cooked - tender and juicy and served with roasted Brussel sprouts!
Our waitress was the best and very attentive.
DK was an awesome waiter. The food was excellent. The ambiance was relaxing and quiet. It would have been nice to have some soft music in the background. I was surprised to see a dog in the restaurant and then a hotel cat, but they weren't really bothersome.
Great birthday dinner for my man.
The host did not show my reservation but it wasn't an issue as we were the only couple in the restaurant for about 45 minutes, when a 2nd couple arrived. The menu has changed from Italian centric to more generic with a steak house focus, but the pasta was excellent nonetheless. Service was friendly.
We stayed at The Riviera and tried their new fine dining restaurant. We have stayed there several times and loved the previous restaurant, Circa 50-something.....
The new Cantala looks the same, albeit not as clean and tidy. The menu, at first glance, looks like a fine selection of California cuisine. The product is unimaginative at best, however. My husband's pork chop was grossly undercooked (oozing blood around the bone) and, when pointed out to the waiter, he made no effort to send it back and/or replace it. Never mind crediting anything on the tab! Overall, it was a disappointment and, given all the choices in PS, we would not return.
Service was horrid ... no greeter, no water and when we complained the menu was incomplete... because the featured "then & now" menu referring to Sinatra's favorites was not present --- the waiter said they need to update that ... offered no apology OR personality to offset their gaffe.... and then served the most grisly steak I have had in years. Run don't walk away from the awlful place.
DK was our server and he was WONDERFUL! I loved the food, service and decor. I will be back!
Our experience was great. The food was top notch, service was excellent, and the people watching at the pool was very entertaining! We will definitely be back.
