Canopy Central Cafe & Bar
This is a hotel bar/restaurant. Booked not fully understanding the layout of the wharf, or all the dining options. Poor acoustics; tepid food; waitstaff delivered food with latex gloves, which was odd; gumbo came without any meat. On the scale of hotel restaurants, it ranks towards the bottom. The staff was very pleasant.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. My husband and I think this may become our go to spot at the Wharf for a casual dinner out. He is in a wheelchair and the space is very open which is great for him. So we can avoid the crowds at the Wharf but still be close to the water.
Canopy Cafe was great fun for three locals. Crab on sweet potato fries was wonderful! Good energy, great location and a superb server called Prince.
Excellent food, beautiful waterfront views, and exceptional service!
Great view of the river from the second floor. We had the flatbreads and they were very good. Crisp, thin crust and good mix of ingredients. Both the bbq chicken and Margherita were done well. Drinks were good, but the beer menu was limited and they were out of half of the beers on a Saturday evening. Limited selection was disappointing. Service was good and the food was fast. Great place to hang out before a show at the Anthem.
This might be the worst restaurant in dc
Great food. Beautiful view. HORRIBLE service. We couldn't figure out what was going on. Each drink took 20 minutes and it wasn't even remotely crowded. After waiting 45 minutes for our food, we flagged down the hostess, and asked her to check on things. Don't know if she really did because we had to ask her again 10 minutes later. Finally got food 65 minutes after ordering it. Don't dine here if you want to make it to an Anthem show or anywhere else that has a schedule. I honestly don't know who to blame. The restaurant was half-empty. The bar was totally empty. Maybe the kitchen was understaffed? But then why did it take 20 minutes to get my check??? Nightmare.
Great view, delicious food, great service.
Great location on the water, but food was average. Quality of pork chop not great. Mostly dark meat and kind of greasy. Mac and cheese was excellent.
Great views, service and food! I would recommend this place-hard to see from the street, just a short trip up the stairs!
The staff at Canopy is incredibly welcoming, the food is exquisite and affordable, and the rooftop view is simply breathtaking.
When we checked in for our reservation we were informed that we could only have flatbreads, this would have been great information at the time of booking the reservation. Service was slow but friendly.
Based on my experience, no. It appeared, and later confirmed by the Manager on Duty, that the restaurant was not equipped to handle the patrons that had arrived for reservations. however the restaurant wasn't full. There were open tables and some open seats at the bar, however it took at least 20 min for a waitress to come over, we ordered everything at once. I ordered a vodka club soda and the club soda was flat. We ordered dips for appetizers, however the pizza/flatbread came out first after an hour. We cancelled the dips after the wings and pulled pork sliders had arrived because the dips "weren't ready." The wings were cold as were the pulled pork sliders so out of health concerns we sent them back.
The Manager on Duty did comp our meal (three flatbreads and a round of drinks for four people) but the whole experience was so disappointing. As a DMV resident for almost two decades, this restaurant has a huge opportunity being part of the bustling and popular SW waterfront. However it couldn't even keep up with fair amount of customers, I can't even imagine a busy Saturday night, as this one was mild.
Do not recommend and will not be back. *as a reference, this is my first negative review for a restaurant.
Probably you’ll have worst serving experience in your life. It was a shame for Hilton group to allow that bad management. Our salads dressing came with check without any single shame on the waiter face.
Great service and very attentive
Slow service, incorrect drink orders—twice, decent tasting but lukewarm food (no doubt related to our very slow server). Place has potential but feels poorly managed.
Service was polite but inefficient and very slow. Restaurant had no cocktail onions at the bar for a Gibson, they were out of onion rings on the appetizer menu, and out of the pork chop on the entree menu. A requested glass of ice never came yet the bartender and a waiter were shooting the breeze when I went to the bar and asked for it. Great food, great location but too many misfires.
I would give them zero stars if I could. While the location and view are great, the service was the worst I’ve ever experienced for a restaurant. We had to go up to the bar multiple times to get our drinks, food did not come out as ordered and took over an hour for burgers and salads. Trust the other reviews on here and avoid, I wish I did.
Where we did make a reservation, there was no one to greet us and the bartenders ignored us stating at the front desk, by the way, there were only two other people in the place.
So, we walked over to a table and sat down, if we had not been tired we would have left but it took 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge that we even there though again there was only one other table with people at it.
Finally, after asking someone to come to us we were visited and order taken. It again took a LONG time to come out but was tasty. The views and location are spectacular, the service, the extremely poor service, is why it was empty.
The views are nice but bring your own food and cocktails from next door if you are hungry.
The worst service ever. 20 minutes to receive water (from the host). A server never came to our table in the 30 minutes that we sat there.
We eventually left and went to a neighboring restaurant where we had a wonderful time.
Only drawback wasn't so much with the cafe in general as the hotel as there was no one in attendance at the street entry and my girlfriend who was a guest had an incident with a drunk that walked in off the street and was harassing her and nobody was in the lobby area to assist. So once again, I think this is more of an issue with the hotel and not really with the cafe/bar. The servers were great and food items were excellent. Prince our main server I believe was really good.
Too few servers for the amount of customers. We ordered a bottle of wine & received the ice bucket but never the wine. After a 20 minute wait with still no wine, we downgraded it to a glass instead & the server seemed shocked. The salad was mediocre. It was soaked in dressing & loaded with probably an entire bag of pecans which is way too much! We will not return.
This restaurant is average. It's convenient since it is inside the hotel. The views from the ceiling tall windows are stunning. Will be even better once the construction is finished.
The wait staff are nice but appear to be inexperienced. They brought my main course, then the appetizer. I was already halfway finished my meal when the appetizer appeared. They gave it to me at no charge.
Nice view and atmosphere and the server were all pleasant. Food needs a lot of work.
Had a wonderful lunch! Food was great, service was efficient and loved the ambiance of the bar and the view overlooking the water. Looking forward to going back again!
It was good. I’ve been here before for breakfast, $22 buffet and it’s mostly local items. Pretty cool patio and views.
An amazing customer service, can’t wait to go back there soon.
Had a few friends meet at Canopy Central for Happy Hour before a night on the Wharf seeing as I was staying at the Canopy Hotel. What an awesome experience all around! Top notch service and food from the team and wow! what a location!
Very enjoyable experience.
The risotto was very salty but otherwise good (scallops were cooked perfectly as was the broccoli rabe.) My soup (which arrived at the same time as my dinner) was not even warm and had to be sent back to be heated. Although he was not busy with too many tables, the waiter took a long time to fulfill requests. Too bad, as the place has potential.
The location and view are very nice. It's a good people watching spot, especially at one of the outdoor tables near the edge overlooking the waterfront. However, that was about the only thing we enjoyed. Service was non-existent. We sat for twenty minutes waiting to be served. Finally I went inside and ordered drinks. A bunch of people standing around, but still had to wait. Took my drinks outside and still no server appeared. Finally I flagged down someone and we got service. Our waiter never stopped by.
Food was extremely ordinary. Absolutely nothing noteworthy and both of us felt a bit 'off' afterward. I won't go back, especially with all of the other options in that vicinity.
Arrived 15 minutes before reservation time and was told there would be an hour wait for a table. Bad experience!
A reservation is that, a time that has been reserved for your party to dine and experience what you have to offer. I understand that you are in a popular area and there was an event going on. However, your reason for offering to seat us 2 hours after our reservation is that people have been sitting at your tables since noon, this is not a good reason. Take the time to define your space and have your tables available for the people who took the time to plan their trip to your Café & Bar.
Most thoroughly disorganized place I've ever been to. We asked for outdoor seating, but they can't honor it because they share the space with a different hotel.
Was late to our reservation but still got seated. Service was slow and the food was mediocre
I rarely ever write reviews, but I had to warn other of this restaurant for a Saturday night. Even though we had a reservation at 6:30 pm, we had to stand in line to wait for a table with others who also had a reservation. The hostess never came by to speak with us or check us in. It was complete disorganization. We were finally seated an hour later. An hour after THAT, we finally had a server come by to take our order. At this point, we would have ordered from the bar, but after waiting in THAT line, we were told that the bar does not take food orders. The restaurant obviously was not prepared for the influx of people for a Saturday night.
We had a dinner reservation this evening as we knew the Wharf would be extremely busy given the Cherry Blossom Festival activities, a sold out concert, and plays going on at Arena Stage. We arrived a few minutes early and were dismissively and brusquely advised that they were "too busy to honor reservations" but we were "welcome to get food at the bar and find our own table when something opened up." We inquired about our reservation with another staff member and were rudely told no tables were held for reservations. This would have been our first time eating at Canopy Central Cafe and Bar. Highly unlikely we'll return if this is how they believe customers should be treated.
JUST DON’T DINE HERE IF YOU WANT TO EAT IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. We waited 2 hours for the food to come out and had to ask for menus. We had a reservation and they said that they “may” be able to seat us. At first, I was confused by this response, but later realized what the hostess meant. This restaurant clearly was not staffed to serve how many people had reservations. They gave us a free order of wings, but for how much the food cost, we should not have waited as long as we did, or even paid for it for that matter. Oh and the manager came around to “apologize” but basically told us that we should be grateful for the free wings because it was actually meant for another table-THAT CAME LATER THAN US. I don’t think they realized we were seated before everyone else around us that were being served before us, granted, service was dreadfully slow for them as well. It was such a great location, with a great ambiance and the food was pretty good, but it took us SO long to be served. I’ve never seriously considered leaving a restaurant without paying before until we dined here. I felt so bad for the servers and everyone involved. Management needs to up their game. Why were the two managers in suit jackets simply going around to apologize instead of picking up the slack?
I didn't believe all the one star reviews, I just thought someone had a vendetta. But no, it really is that bad!
It started off poorly when I showed up for my reserved OUTSIDE table and they tried to seat me indoors. Apparently the little "reserved" placard would not fit on a table outside, but only on inside tables. We were also told the kitchen was backed up and it would be a 30 minute wait for food. This was at 5pm. Sure glad we didn't get there at 7pm when they are busy. Our server showed up after 15 minutes. He reported that they were out of half the beers on the beer list. Yes, half! We adjusted and ordered the cheeseboard figuring the kitchen might be quicker with it. Yea, 15 minutes later it showed up, so that was a win. Until we tasted it. Straight from Kraft and Oscar Meyer. Absolutely no flavor at all. And who puts potato chips rather than bread or crackers on a cheeseboard? The answer is Canopy! I'll end on a positive note by saying the mustard was good.
