Cañonita Ratings and Reviews
We eat here every time we come to Vegas. Food is always excellent. This time we met some local friends here who had never dined here before. They loved it. When our food arrived, they had a different style of rice than I had eaten before. I asked the waiter what happened to the cilantro rice ( which is one of the reasons I come here)? He said the batch they had made had gotten hard and they would not serve that to their customers. Now this is not a bad thing. This is a testament to thier food quality. Towards the end of our meal, a new batch was ready and they brought some to our table for us to enjoy. Excellent food, staff and ambiance. I recommend this restraunt to anyone coming to Las Vegas. Keep up the great work Canonita!!!
We visited several years ago and it was so good. Not anymore. The pineapple infused margaritas were tart not sweet. My husband had to send his Chili Relleno dinner back and he didn't want a replacement. I only ate half of my Burrito. The spices overpowered the food. We will not go back. Our waiter was overwhelmed. Although we had a 5:00 pm reservation, they were not ready for us, and we were seated at 5:20.
Food is really outstanding. I don’t expect much on the strip in Vegas, both in food quality and service, but was very impressed with both.
I had Salmon which was exceptional. Other 3 with me all had Carne Asada, which all 3 said was also very good. Chips were outstanding as well!
Looking forward to going back
Lovely location! Singers on the canal boats very entertaining. Cocktails and dinner spot on. Would recommend! Near our hotel, Venetian, and walkable afterwards to our show at Caesars Palace. Waiter stirred me away from the pork dish, due to length of time to prepare.......greatly appreciated the honestly. My husband enjoyed an authentic Mexican chicken burrito and I a good chicken salad. Guacamole was excellent. Would def recommend or go back (honestly) for that pork dish I missed out on. Need to plan timing better for a great eatery as this.
We were told to go this restaurant by a co worker. There is a patio area which is positioned right next to the gondola water and rides for the gondola for the Venetian Hotel. Even though the “patio” is really indoors you feel like you are outside because the ceiling is painted like a sky. It’s very relaxing to sit next to the water and we enjoyed the gondolas coming by as they sang Italian songs. The food was really good. I expect to get free chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant but this place does charge. For chips/salsa/guacamole it was $9.00. My husband had the barbacoa which he loved and it is their specialty and I had mahi mahi which was fantastic. My husband also had their coconut drink which was cute because it’s served in a real coconut. The waitress was very nice and was good at her job. If you’re interested in Mexican food this place is well worth it. Try to get a seat near the water.
I felt the food was over-hyped and did not live up the expectation of "true" and or "authentic" Mexican cuisine. It was not bad however it was not the best we have had. Also, the service was mediocre at best. The restaurant was NOT busy, we were a decent sized check at $350.00 and felt that the service was lacking. Our water glasses were empty often and we had to ask for utensils and additional plates several times.
Sitting on the canal watching gondolas is fun. DH & I reminisced of our times in Venus. Our server Nathan was great and very accommodating. My DH ordered traditional fare: Enchiladas/Rice/Beans etc and it was very tasty. Since I cook Mexican often, I wanted something different, however they were "out of it". So attempted another choice and the meat was literally burned/charred...I like char on my "midRare steaks", but not on small piece of Pork Tenderloin. So, my DH shared his meal with me (plenty to share). Word to wise.....stick with "traditional", plates large enough to share and oh yes....the Posole Verde was phenomenal (and shareable). FYI chips & salsa are not free ($5), but were very tasty. Compliments to manager who did not charge me for my disappointing meal.
We typically enjoy this restaurant every other year when we come to Las Vegas. It is a casual place with a lovely setting right along the canal at the Venetian. The menu has changed slightly, but the food quality still remains. The meals were reasonably priced, but the guacamole.salsa appetizer, I thought, was expensive at $14. I don't recall that the guacamole and chips was that expensive in the past. The entrees, the Santa Rosa Pork and the Mexican Short Ribs, were excellent. As requested, we got a table along the canal, and the service was very good. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Vegas.
