The food was inventive drawing on influences from around the world.
The experience delivered on all levels. The servers were knowledgeable and friendly. For a tasting mention, the pace was balanced so the evening was enjoyable without feeling rushed or unattended to. The dishes were exceptional with flavours and texture well balanced. A surprising combination of classic and less common ingredients creating an flavorful and interesting menu.
Creative tasting menu—Canadian with a twist—and unique wine pairings, some from Canadian vintners, also Spanish and Portuguese (not so common in my experience).
absolutely stunning experience. erika took incredible care of us and the pairings were beautiful. thank you so much for making our solstice celebration so special.
Food was out of this world , wine was ok , I would go back but just for the food , wine tasting was abit expensive, for what we got , other then that hands down one of the best meals I’ve had in a while .
The food was amazing, still dreaming about the pork dish. The wine paring was good and interesting, but the pours were very small for the price.
Possibly just the overcompensation of the winter seasonal flavours, but as great as each course was, everything was too heavy to have 8 courses of. We ended up barely eating a few courses as we felt overloaded with the multiple heavy and rich flavours over and over again. Needed something to break it up. Noisier than we expected but still had a fairly enjoyable time, even though we couldnt finish all 8 courses
Great food, looks appetizing, taste delicious. Good services as well. A good place for a special occasion, or just for the love of foods.
The staff was exceptional very knowledgeable and detailed oriented. Love how the chef comes out as well to explain each dish , the speed of the courses were well timed. All the flavours were exceptional
This restaurant puts Canada on the map. Simply outstanding.
Outstanding food and service! I would highly recommend this tasting menu and the service was outstanding!
The food was impeccable, the wine pairing was perfect. I had a wonderful experience. If ever back in Toronto, would definetly go again.
Excellent meal and service in an understated Queen St spot. The small number of tables (only 13, seating no more than ~30 people max), ensured that we felt well attended to. The food was fresh and tasty, with each course building well on the next. Overall, we were happy to celebrate my wife’s birthday here and highly recommend!
Outstanding chef.
The food was delicious. They were very accommodating to several eating restrictions I had.
We had a lovely dinner at Canis. The tasting menu items were unique and delicious. The wine pairings were also unique, being wine varietals that are not readily available in the LCBO making the experience more interesting. We would highly recommend this restaurant.
Way over priced. Food wasn’t amazing. 2 of the tasting menu courses were write offs. Was very excited about this and it was very disappointing
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful evening at Canis. The food was incredible. We had the wine pairing with the food and it is totally worth it. Our only negative point was that it was really fast between the service and sometimes we didn't had time to finsih our plate that a second plate and glass of wine was coming. But we ask our waiter to get a little more time between the service and after, everything was perfect.
This restaurant was a lovely experience. Each dish was so thoughtfully created. An interesting food experience that was satisfying on many levels. The desserts were delicious and the duck liver was original and unique in its combo with the thyme on the pastry. Picture below. Service was lovely. Wine was good. It was a little rich though.
Very good food, experience and exceptional service.
Very unusual expérience with plenty of flavors! Loved it!
Overall very good experience. The ingredients tasted fresh and were cooked just right. In some dishes, the seasoning is a little bit overwhelming, e.g. too salty. But overall Canis provides a great dining experience with great value.
Amazingly creative food!
Excellent meal. The food was fabulous. Would recommend the restaurant to everyone
deserves 1 michelin star
Fantastic restaurant. I look forward to see dine there again.
the food was really delicious, the accompanying wines were excellent but compared to the food the wines were a bit expensive.
the furniture is basic compared to the quality of the food.
i would go back zny time for the food
Fantastic overall! They accommodated my expectant wife, and even did something special for her birthday. The only MINOR inconvenience was an infrequent and feint unpleasant smell coming from a particular near the stairway to the bathroom. ... Would still highly recommend as a splurge dinner.
Great team of chefs. Wine list focuses on sustainable, biodynamic wines.
I went in with pretty high expectations given the reviews I read but I must say, I was relatively disappointed. Food wasn't bad but there also wasn't any big surprise either. Staff were friendly but not very attentive. We had to pour our own wine the whole night. I also felt rushed as the next dish came as soon as the last one was taken away. So overall experience was ok but I'm not dying to go back anytime soon.
The food was awesome tasting but with a final bill over $300 for 2 people it is not a place I would rush back to. Not great value! The size of the food portions were too small. We were both still hungry at the end of the main courses. Serving us 3 deserts filled us up - with sugar!! I would have liked more of the amazing duck instead of the 3 or 4 tiny slices served. They can do better!
Fabulous Experience. Ambience could be a bit better nevertheless the service, food quality and attentiveness if staff is remarkable.
A delicious tasting menu with very nice pairings. Our fours are other people's fives I know but that is because some restaurants have set the bar so high. The value is amazing though which really balances out the equation. Definitely recommend this place.
As visitors to many tasting menus throughout Toronto we were excited to try Canis and were not disappointed. Their food is complex and layered yet simple.
Techniques used like fementation complimented each dish. Favourite dishes for the night would be the lobster corn soup (chickpea broth with smoky hickory flavouring), melt in your mouth short ribs, duck croquettes, liver pate fruit tart and popcorn ice cream. Presentation was simple yet inviting. Must try their rhubarb soda. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Thank you for helping us celebrate our special night.
Thank you, for such an amazing night! We were both industry people and really appreciated everything top to bottom. It was a special night and it was executed so well!
Absolutely an exquisite experience. The dishes started strong and just kept getting better.
We went to Canis to celebrate a birthday, we absolutely enjoy everything about that night! We had the tasting menu with 8 courses with the wine pairing. All dishes were absolutely incredible with original tastes and ingredients.
Wine selection was also perfect, with lots of natural/organic wines.
We particularly enjoyed that every cooker came to our table and present the dish they cooked and the description of all wines that were served (6 glasses).
One of the best culinary experiences I’ve had in Toronto! This place is all about the food
Walking upon the restaurant, it certainly does not look like much on the outside. The second story looks like it's falling apart and the interior is very basic with minimal decoration. I also could not help but notice a smell of something like dry cat food which I believe I saw someone else mention in another review on this site. Luckily I stopped noticing after a little bit. Other than that, we had a wonderful time. The servers were all attentive and explained the dishes well. They did not appear annoyed if I ever asked them to repeat themselves. The dishes were very nicely plated and we really enjoyed the food! Sometimes with tasting menus, one walks away still hungry but we were very full and happy at the end. The wine pairings were also lovely, save for one of them which to me tasted like the liquid version of oregano. I would certainly say to give this spot a try.
Exceptional food with exquisite wine pairing. Blown away by the quality and attention to deal. My new favourite restaurant in Toronto!
