Canggio Restaurant
Some well-loved dishes are Ceviche, Papa Rellena, Lomo, and Escabeche.
Chef Julio Cancho is born and raised in Peru, but classically trained in French and Italian cookery. He adds a Peruvian twist to some American dishes also on the menu.
Peruvian cuisine, considered among the best in the world, inherited its innovation, mix and flavors from Peru’s history. Its culinary fusion developed over a long process of cultural exchange between the Spanish, Africans, Chinese, Japanese and Italians, among others. The dishes became more and more varied as races mixed and migrants landed at the port of Callao.
Absolutely Love this restaurant!!! The best I have ever been to in every way !!! Thank you so much for offering unique cuisine and exceptional service!!!
Slow service, mediocre food, overpriced. Not "upscale" as they describe.
Excellent paella and the salmon with sweet potatoes was fantastic.
This is my new favorite restaurant. Lovely service, delicious food.
Deliciously prepared food and they cater to those with dietary restrictions!
A hidden gem in Norwich, for sure! From the moment we entered we were treated by a friendly, caring staff, which set the tone for a wonderful evening. The creative cocktail list was fun and the appetizers outstanding. We had the empanadas, mussels - which were to die for, and pork bellies, along with our cocktails and wine. Dinner followed and I was lucky enough to get a taste of everyone's! The pasta with goat cheese sauce and shrimp was divine, as was the salmon special, and the paella. Unfortunately we didn't have room for dessert, but it would've been a difficult choice given the authentic Peruvian desserts versus the classics such as creme brulee! We had such a wonderful dinner that one member of our group returned the following day with her husband for lunch. We are all soon to return! Thanks Canggio for such a memorable meal!
This was our first time at Canggio's and it was a delightful experience. The waitress we had was helpful and very nice. The food is delicious to say the least. We will come back again for sure.
Those empenadas are to die for! I didn't have it this visit but the lemon and goat cheese pasta is my go to dinner!
I have been to Canggio's before. I keep going back because it is that good. What they do, they do perfectly. The food is fantastic and creative. The service is also exemplary and very accommodating. Bravo.
We went for New Years Eve dinner to have a nice night out before going to a concert. The five-course special of the night was amazing. Wonderful sauces on properly cooked items. It was one of the best meals I have had in a long time.
Great selection of food for dinner or lunch. Fun signature cocktails, limited beer selection.
Fabulous food as always! Canggio never disappoints.
Absolutely fantastic restaurant! We couldn’t decide what to order so Julio brought samples of appetizers and main courses. Still couldn’t decide what I liked best, it was all delicious! I tried ceviche for the first-but not the last-time. Everything was great. A true gem in Norwich.
Comfortable, Clean great calamari and salmon sandwich.
Meal, as always was very well prepared and presented. Staff is very friendly and attentive. This is one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants.
What a surprise in Norwich! The food was great and priced right. Our server was friendly and professional. I highly recommend it and will be back.
Hidden gem! Comforting yet modern venue, with very tasty Peruvian staples, such as ceviche (pictured) and lomo saltado. Omnivores, pescatarians, and vegetarians should all be able to eat here. Big, beautifully-prepared portions with fresh ingredients. Very nice waitstaff offer good suggestions for newbies. Look forward to returning.
Food was fantastic! We had a hard time selecting a dish because so many items looked delicious! We will definitely be returning!
Birthday with son and his father. Cuisine deliciously prepared and savored.
the restaurant "lost" our reservation. thank goodness I had the email receipt. we were then seated at the "chef's table". we had to ask for a waitress after waiting a while. the food was extremely salty... and I like salty but this was too much. the chef was gracious. he bought our bottle of wine.
Never go wrong by selecting Canggio - the cross culture food is amazing. Servers are spot on with service.
Overall the experience was quite enjoyable. The food was good, if not great. The true Peruvian dishes were outstanding. The blue corn drink was a treat.
Food and fabulous go hand-in-hand with Carvaggio. The Ecuadorian tastes are vibrant and similar to my New Orleans' cuisine!
Food was very good; excellent customer service. Can’t wait to go back and try another entree
We were visiting the area for a Keith Urban concert, using airbnb, and I found this place, a bit away from Mohegan Sun. Well, it was so thoroughly delicious, I want to go back soon! Excellent steak dish, excellent salad, everything we ate was unique and amazing. The waitress was helpful and gracious. I'm a New York "foodie", very fussy, and this was a wonderful meal.
A true gem. Don’t miss out, but Daave us a table :)
Excellent preparation and presentation. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We will definitely be back.
Met family for a birthday celebration. Brunch was delicious. The Bloody Mary was over the top!
Canggio is a not what you would expect in Norwich CT, a town that historically had seen great wealth in previous years, but now appears run down. However, the restaurant is a true and very surprising culinary bright spot. It states that it is Peruvian, but it is really a fusion of many influences, all of them very carefully crafted together, yet with the Peruvian food very much there at all times.
Great food, complex and exciting without being too intimidating, yet it has a solid hint of comfort food at the same time. We tried many of the starters and the main meals and I really couldn't pick out one that was any better than the other - they were all wonderful. To put it in perspective, my son had just had four wisdom teeth removed the previous day and he still finished everything that he ordered!
They stocked a great bar with a interesting collection of cocktails that were tried a few of. Worth experimenting if you go.
Service was impeccable and very warm and inviting. Our server and the owner couldn't have been more hospitable.
In conclusion, great food, great drinks, great service and a great place all round. I will be back soon.
I really don’t want to say how amazing this place is because I’m afraid it will always be so busy we can’t get in. This is our second time here and both visits were perfect.
Apps, drinks, entrees all were amazing.
Our first visit, Kristine, the GM, made our experience so much better by explaining about the food(s) history from the roasted corn “Amuse Bouche” if your will, to our drinks and entrees.
Each app, entree and Desserts were so amazing. We all enjoyed everything and will definitely be back.
What a great high quality experience in Norwich!!
Kudos!!
Very cute restaurant and nice staff. We really enjoyed the food but do have a few "comments." We ordered bolitas de yucca which were supposed to have yucca and queso fresco inside but all we tasted was yucca. Also, parking was a little confusing because we weren't quite sure where it was okay to park. And lastly, we weren't greeted or acknowledged when we arrived into the restaurant. My wife had to ask a waitress if we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait. On the plus side, it was a cute spot. We enjoyed the live music and we really enjoyed the causa with octopus! Yum! Highly recommend that app! Even though I listed a couple complaints, we definitely will visit again.
Excellent dining experience at a jewel of a find in Norwich! Kyle was very attentive and personable. The food was very creative, nicely presented and tasty, although a little salty for us. The empanadas were a great start to our meal. We will be back the next time we're in the area!
One of the best meals we have had in a while. The food is wonderful, the service is superb. We will be back soon to sample more of the menu.
Flavorful!! Definitely worth trying!
Norwich needs more restaurants like this. Great food, clean, great service!
Found this place through their website and decided to check it out- it had only been open for about 3 months. Welcomed immediately - all the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful but also good at not intruding into the dining experience or interupting conversation. I had never had Peruvian cuisine before. In the appetizers the seafood platter and the calamari were terrific. Many of us at the table got the steak lomo for dinner - tender but meaty chunks of slightly spicy beef on rice with matchstick fries and a fried egg. The salads that two of us got were generous portions and looked delicious. The decor is nothing special but don't let that fool you - it's a terrific place to eat and the small bar is really nice (the mixed drinks are very good!).
Stopped in as we saw on open table. Small family run business. The food was amazing and the service so friendly and attentive. We will definitely go back if in the Norwich area.
Awesome meal, attentive service, nice ambiance. Food was truly outstanding.
