Canela Bistro & Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
Excellent food, each dish absolutely delicious. Excellent service, our server was very knowledgable and made excellent recommendations. All of the dishes are available in two sizes for sharing the tapas size and the raciones, double portion for larger group, a little discount rather than buying two orders of the tapas. I plan to return soon for another excellent meal.
Canela’s food is consistently to perfection, no matter what we order, and reasonably priced. The chef always comes out to ask us how we enjoyed our meal. Service is attentive and friendly, though pace is somewhat laid back, so go when you want to enjoy a nice date or a good visit with friends over a bottle of wine, not when you need to rush to the show. Every meal we have had there has made us want to come back.
We enjoyed the tapas we ordered at La Canela. Our perfect kind of meal. This was our favorite style of meal in Spain. I have to say, though, that is really really loud. You can talk if you look at each other. With that said, I would highly recommend it for dinner.
Went here for restaurant week. The deals were good. Our waitress was M.I.A. for a good portion. Took her almost 20 min to take our order. She wasn't the most friendly either, just ok. She did know her food though. The potatas braves were good, flat bread was a poor version of flatbread pizza. The clams were excellent. Stuffed peppers had a meat mixture that was a bit off putting. I couldn't finish it. The shrimp were slightly overcooked but the sauce was awesome, especially dipped in bread. Wine was very good.
The food was really great, everything we ordered was perfect and we cleaned the plate! There was nothing wrong with the service but they could've been more attentive but ultimately was good. I was bummed out we sat in the front of the restaurant, the seating towards the middle/back of the restaurant gives you a better feel for the ambience and its awesome. I'd definitely recommend this place and would come back.
Everything was delicious! The waiter was very knowledgable and helped us select dishes and portions that made for a great meal. We were on a schedule and the kitchen made sure our food was cooked and delivered in the time we had. Didn't feel rushed, but well paced for our needs. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Canela has a few good dishes (Gambas al ajillo)but disappointed on many fronts, in particular value. Tapas are around $15 for a very small portion. The food quality is average except for a few bright spots like the gambas al ajillo. Croquetas were bland. Piquillos peppers were out of this world spicy (I know sometimes one his, but never seen all of them be indian like spicy, and if they are they should not be served!). Menu selection is very limited. Service was OK but wine came after 2 tapas were already served, and we wer switched back and forth between two servers. If you want value, go to Esperpento. If you want ambience and better food go to Bellota. I was looking forward to this dinner but ended up disappointed, will not return or advise anyone to go there.
We held a birthday brunch this past Sunday at Canela for 14 people and the food and staff were amazing. We ordered tapas to share as a group and the server helped in making selections. All were superb. Staff was attentive and personable. The Chef even came out to say hello. Great place. We will definitely be back.
Canela is wonderful. I would go there every day if I lived in San Francisco! I make sure to go there every time I visit the city. I can't recommend it highly enough. The food manages to be authentically traditionally Spanish and modern at the same time. The wine list is outstanding, as are the wine pairings.
Canela Bistro & Wine Bar is our favorite place for dinner/weekend lunch in the Castro. We decided to try it for Christmas Eve and we were NOT disappointed. It was fantastic. I highly recommend this restaurant for all occasions, special, and just a week night out.
Yesterday I had one of the best meals I have had in San Francisco in a long, long time. We have been going here since they opened and back then-it was definitely good. Now-It's GREAT. Few restaurants can boast of ever increasing quality and service-but Canela can, indeed. Also the Spanish wines selection is terrific. I was simply blown away by great food and a wonderful evening.
While the food is outstanding, our enjoyment was lessened by the noise level. There was a group of 12 next to us, and they got so noisy, we could not hear ourselves talk. And, it seemed to carry throughout the restaurant. There doesn't appear to be any sound absorbing ceiling or much else to alleviate the noise. We will most likely dine there again, as we certainly enjoyed the menu, even though it is a little pricey.
Canela was a warm place to be on a cold December night. The service was quick & the server was very knowledgable. I described the kind of wine I wanted & what he brought was spot-on. The food was excellent, great seafood & vegetarian options. I would definitely go back.
