Canela Bistro & Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
While the food is outstanding, our enjoyment was lessened by the noise level. There was a group of 12 next to us, and they got so noisy, we could not hear ourselves talk. And, it seemed to carry throughout the restaurant. There doesn't appear to be any sound absorbing ceiling or much else to alleviate the noise. We will most likely dine there again, as we certainly enjoyed the menu, even though it is a little pricey.
Canela was a warm place to be on a cold December night. The service was quick & the server was very knowledgable. I described the kind of wine I wanted & what he brought was spot-on. The food was excellent, great seafood & vegetarian options. I would definitely go back.
We always enjoy Canela because of the ambiance, the food, the service. After being there many times we decided to order the paella, and it was a very nice surprise. Delicious and generous!
Took the leftovers home and couldn't wait for the lunch hour the following day.
Great place! Great tapas! Cozy yet lively. Diverse crowd. Thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. Especially liked the batatas bravas, brussel sprouts, lamb skewers, trout, shrimp and flatbreads. All the servers were very nice, food came out quickly. The only thing I would mention is that the staff seems harried and the restaurant might consider one more hand on deck. Otherwise, perfect.
I highly recommend this restaurant. The ambiance is wonderful. While prices for Tapas are a bit higher than you might find elsewhere, the portions are more generous and the quality is superb. This is not a place where they grill piece of sausage or octopus, plate it and call it a Tapas, Instead, the quality of ingredients and creative preparation of food is far superior to most every tapas restaurant you'll experience. This is not off- the-wall fusion, rather each dish is a thoughtful composition of complimentary ingredients, tastes and textures. I was most impressed! The chef is clearly talented. Although a Tapas was recommended for 1 person, it’s clearly enough for 2 for sharing. 5-6 Tapas is a filling meal for two.
The wine list is a broad offering of Spanish wines (not easy to find in CA) and well priced. The Sommelier is well informed. The craft "cocktails" made from infused wines are most creative. The Sangria is sublime. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Can't wait to go back!
Went by our server's recommendation and got the beet salad, croquetas, gambas, and the grilled skirt steak. Each one very delicious. We ended the meal with the banana, pecan, tres leche bread pudding - You must order that coz it comes in a really cute pumpkin container.
Our server noted that we were celebrating a birthday and lit a birthday candle for us.
From the moment we walked in the door we were made to feel welcome. Service was attentive, pacing was generally spot-on, and the Chef/Owner came to our table at the end of the meal to ask if he could have done anything better or differently. Really, really great crew that only enhanced our overall dining experience. The Lamb Skewers were standouts. The "Trio of Olive Oils" was kind of a dud...but we probably should have asked a few questions before ordering that dish so shame on us. We will absolutely be back again.
I don't typically write reviews but I had to because I truly enjoyed my experience here! This is the second time we've been to Canela after maybe 5-7 years!?? And it's still a lovely place to dine! First time here was for one of our birthdays/wedding anniversaries and now ~5 years later, we celebrated my birthday!
Deeelicious tapas! My favorite was the tempura beans with blueberry sauce. Another goodie was the albacore tuna--cooked perfectly--with kale topped with a yummy sauce. All of the tapas we had were so, so, so, so goood! We also enjoyed a half carafe of red sangria with strawberries and apples. The server was super friendly. We felt very comfortable talking to him. We were all Libras, including the women sitting at the table next to us!
I'm not sure why it took us so many years to come back but we will be back sooner than later, for sure!
The Tortilla de Patatas was very good. Also the croquetas de jamón were good, prepared correctly. I didn't like the cauliflower or the clams or the cheese options. Too bland. I didn't try the flatbread but the people in my group liked it. The Sangria was good but not anything special. Overall just okay.
The menu featured small plates which is perfect for small eaters. We arrived early and were the only customers in the place but later the restaurant filled with an eclectic bunch of diners. The conversations filled the place with a pleasant hum. The food was enjoyable. The owner came to our table to introduce himself wich was a nice added extra.
Great spot for an easy Sunday Brunch. Unusual, authentic Spanish tapas menu in a colorful, nice setting. No problem getting a table (a big plus+) on a Sunday, which is the only day they are open for brunch. They make their own chorizo (yum)! And have a great sherry list!
We loved this restaurant. Our party of five probably over-ordered, but here are the items that were the best - croquetas, gazpacho, shishito peppers, veggie flatbread, octopus, shrimp, bread pudding dessert. The other items were all very good, just not as amazing - corn soup, eggplant, cauliflower, romano beans, empanada, stuffed peppers. The waiters were very friendly and helpful. We're definitely coming back.
We had the best experience here! We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and my sister's birthday, we were treated to some little surprises at dinner which was lovely. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. We ordered everything to share, even the desserts. Will definitely be coming back and highly recommend to others. I've tried to upload some photos but I keep getting errors.
