Paul and Matt are the best hosts with the intimate atmosphere, customer service and delicious food we want!
Canela is a favorite!
Amazing food, seamless service, intimate environment... An overall wonderful dining experience.
We waited 20 mins for our table, after having a reservation
They got 2 of the 5 items we ordered, wrong.
They were out of the dessert we wanted
And they did not acknowledge our anniversary that we were celebrating!
I would not plan to visit Canela again. I was really disappointed with how they handled Valentines day.
Well done. Nailed the flavors, great wine knowledge and selection. Outstanding staff.
Very good tapas bistro and a great neighborhood destination. Always a pleasure to dine at this restaurant.
We got things that were not hot or looked like just thrown together. Space is great- chef did come out to offer something else and genuinely apologized. He was very sweet. However, server barely checked in- seemed far far away and frankly I think forgot abt our orders half the time.
The food was fantastic and our server was attentive and knowledgeable. A great experience.
Wonderful service, delicious options - everything we ordered was good. Server was helpful with how much we should order. Reataurant was a bit loud but that’s ok for Saturday night :)
The only item I would say could be better was the bone marrow. Otherwise, I adored every bite. Service was also phenomenal.
Our waiter was fantastic! Wine pairing was great for restaurant week, food was delicious and well executed.
A wonderful assortment of tapas and Spanish entree's. Very fresh and nice use of seasonal products. Many thanks to our wonderful waiter Paul.
This was my first time at Canela and I was really impressed. I expected just ordinary tapas but the tapas style menu items at Canela are super extraordinary and... not too salty (I need to watch my sodium intake). Perfect service, perfect ambiance, not too noisy. Great experience.
I took my girlfriend here for a date during SF restaurant week and we had a fantastic time. Food was great, wine pairings were fantastic minus the dessert pairing. The only suggestion we could make is better food presentation, sometimes it looked thrown together or as if it was shaken or shifted on the way to the table. Definitely would recommend and plan on coming back.
Great service - warm ambiance. Loved the scallops, patatas and lamb skewers. Flatbread was okay and cheeses were a great value so will probably pass next time. Wine list was a little difficult to navigate (all Spanish wines I was unfamiliar with) but our server brought us a few samples and was so helpful. Desserts were delicious - churros and cinnamon ice cream are must orders. We will be back!
Glad we got to try all the tapas
Sf restaurant week
We celebrated our daughter’s 10th birthday here and they made it very special for her. The sous chef came out with a special dessert for her. Our server was very knowledgeable and recommended a delious wine. The food was, as always, awesome. What a great evening. I would highly recommend.
Amazing restaurant! Great food and fantastic service. Will definitely be back!
I had not been there for a long time. Today everything about it is excellent.
I've been going to Canela periodically for nearly 5 years. And in that time, even as the menu and wine offerings have evolved, the quality of the food and its ingredients and the knowledge and professionalism of the staff have all been consistently stellar. I can't say enough about the chef's and servers' attention to detail and obvious love for what they do. And to have all that in a smart, stylish, and cozy ambience makes the overall experience truly special.
Both food and service were great as they always have been.
Service was great, the food was good, however, the mussels were not what we expected.
Had a wonderful brothers sister dinner and we were more than pleased with the food, the wine and the service. Love this place as much as I love the foods and wine from Spain.
Had an amazing anniversary dinner ! Food was wonderful as always !
Everything was great... food, service, atmosphere! Would definitely go back!
Excellent service and food but difficult to hear.
Loved this tiny tapas restaurant - my husband and I ordered 5 or 6 small plates, dessert and a few drinks, got out for under $100 well fed and satisfied. Not an easy feat in SF! Everything was prepared well and brought to our table by the chef with an explanation of how it was made and the ingredients. Great service to boot. This will be our one of our go-to date night spots.
The waiters were amazing and service was good and food was really good. Enjoyed this place very much. Only negative thing is that we had to wait 40min for our table even though we had a reservation. Very disappointing. Bur was very pleased with the rest of the night.
Absolutely wonderful restaurant with incredible dishes and impeccable service. The tapas, the sangria/wine list and the ambiance are my top 3 favorites about this place.
Chris is AWESOME.
Went here for dinner with friends while visiting San Francisco. We were all very pleased with the meal, chose this restaurant because of their tapas menu. Service was very good, staff checked with us several times during the meal. Definitely will dine at this restaurant again in the future.
Loved our Christmas Eve dinner. The staff was so welcoming and warm and they went out of their way to accommodate our vegan daughter. The food was very flavorful with unique ingredients and spices. Highly recommend it.
Dinner was good. Service was great.
Was a little disappointed that the $40 Ribeye was only a 1/4" thick,
even though it came with a dish of potatoes au gratin (pass).
Would have much rather ordered 3 other tapas dishes instead.
Would pass on the patas bravas next time too.
i had christmas eve dinner there. tapas and sangria. was so good.
Great service! The food was delicious! Everything was great!
So sad that we didn’t discover this gem years ago because we have been missing out some the best Spanish food in the city. Pair the food with an extensive wine list and you a special evening indeed.
we go here often and it is ALWAYS an amazing experience ! Everyone is exceedingly nice and welcoming . They always treat you like your a guest in their home. My favorite restaurant in the Castro
We were late for our reso and the staff was very accommodating. We decided to eat at the counter where we had great access to the barista and the waiters coming and going. Great tapas. Very authentic. Great wines too.
I was incredibly disappointed with this experience. Our server treated us as though we were a burden and it was apparent she didn't want to be there, as there was zero engagement involved. We ordered the queso to start, which came with two cheeses for $15. It would've been nice to know that by "queso", they actually meant four pieces of sliced cheese, some sad almonds and honeycomb and two slices of apple served on a plate that was much too large for the dish, making it appear even more pathetic. The saddest part of all was that this was our favorite dish out of the entire meal! We then ordered the stuffed peppers, $12 for two measly peppers literally the size of a nickel, followed by the Caesar salad which was drowned in a bitter, citrus dressing. Lastly, we ordered the paprika seared shrimp, yet another disappointment. The dish had 6 shrimp lying in the middle of it, surrounded by a sea of paprika. The only distinguishable flavor of this dish was the smoke. All in all, this was an unsatisfactory meal at best. There was nothing authentic or noteworthy about any of it. Have they changed their menu/gotten new owners in the last year or so? Regardless, it's safe to say we will not be going back.
